I actually like this gun a lot on my Phoenix Adept; useful as something to fire between powers. I give it a 8/10.

It's a good sidearm. Not so good as a main gun. But I used to rock it on my human engie all the time, so I bust it out for nostalgia every once in a blue moon.

So as a sidearm, 7/10. Does it's job acceptably well, but it's got a lot of stiff competition knocking it down the list.

As a primary gun...probably best not to.

Before Earth weapon mods, it was at least 7.5/10. Precision weapon, good at all distances, excellent transition game, encouraged good cover habits. Suffered a bit against armor, recoil took some getting used to, hard to use on the move, semi-auto.

After Earth weapon mods, 9/10 and maybe slightly higher. Stab and pen mods made this weapon even better. All of its weaknesses, as long as you can manage to click rapidly for sustained DPS, were removed by those additions.

I really don't understand the hate for it.

I agree wholeheartedly.

It is usable with the recoil dampener, but I resent that one of the mod slots HAS to have the dampener to make it usuable (not even stability turians can control it otherwise). It retains it's accuracy (more-or-less) but is not exceptionally accurate. It's damage is sufficient but requires rapid fire-tapping to get the bursts out at a sufficient speed.

Before the recoil dampener was released: 2/10.
After its release: 6/10.

Needs a Buff.. for a rare weapon it sure is mediocre, IMO it is in the same caliber as Tempest, Locust which are uncommon...

It's a fine gun on the TSol with a HCB/Scope and stability consumable. Double click on heads for points. Otherwise it's meh.

Weak, doesn't compare to the GPSMG + CSMG (one of the best smgs)

There is a mod to remove recoil and the Hornet is better then most other smgs and pistols and assault rifles this way.

And it also have a decent range for an Smg.Its a very good gun. Only the Hurricane is better.

solid smg for casters, opposite an acolyte, and with the new AP mod. at X it's still not as good as a hurricane at 2 tho. hipfire and keep mashing the trigger.

descent against big bosses like atlas or prime. hardest hitting rare smg. not that that's saying a lot.

6.5/10 as an smg

After spending some time with it for outsider mastery, I'd say... meh.

I mostly used it on the original turians, and then it's not half bad. Pretty accurate, even when zoomed in, and decent damage for low weight. On any other class, though, the recoil is a bit much for my taste. Too much button mashing is required to give it a decent rate of fire, and button mashing makes it harder to control the recoil. So for most classes, it's mostly useful as a close-in SMG fired from the hip. And for that role... well, I have the Hurricane VI, which does way more damage and doesn't require me to mash the LMB nearly as much.

I might use it as a backup on a character with really poor carrying capacity, but for the most part I prefer the hurricane with lightweight materials if I want a light backup weapon with a lot of firepower.

4/10.

Terrible gun ; I used it twice when I wanted to do the SMG challenge before throwing the towel and going for the Geth SMG instead. Too much recoil, too few damage, burst weapon (I am not a fan of burst weapons), heavy (the heaviest SMG along with the Hurricane), sub-par accuracy... I don't know, it's just horrible and it's a ****ing rare.
I'd say 1/10 because you can't really rate anything 0/10 but I think I'll never use it again.

It's alright, as long as you don't start comparing it to the Hurricane and Collector SMG. I honestly don't enjoy using it, and didn't bother with the challenge. :D

Why don't you put recoil dampener on? It's awesome then, it has virtualy no recoil if you do that.

I'd give it 7/10.

It's still not good, it just compensates for a flaw that other, better guns don't have, and losing out on other mods in the process.

If it had been a full-auto smg, it wouldn't need recoil dampener. But the burst nature of it makes it hard to compensate for recoil manually while maintaining a good rate of fire.

With the recoil dampener I'd give it 8/10, without it I'd give it 6/10.

It's a fun gun (IMHO) on bronze and silver, especially if you take the piercing mod, but I won't use it on gold as my main weapon though as it doesn't put out enough damage for my liking.

Used with the HVB and Recoil mods, the Hornet is absolutely amazing. It's extremely accurate at long range, but its real power lies in your ability to pulse fire the shots. Combined with its higher than normal damage for a SMG, it packs real stopping power at close-mid range and is a very respectable sidearm for any caster class. I wouldn't use it on a heavy weapons class like the Soldier or the Infiltrator, but it sees regular use on my Adepts and Engineers.

I'd say 2nd best of the smgs behind the hurricane. Not saying much because smgs are kind of underwhelming but I love the hornet. It's bursty and pretty accurate with little kick as long as you fire from the hip (on pc so dunno how console recoil works). Definitely a decent backup weapon considering the ULM for casters. Couple bursts of the hornet to the face seems to do the trick when things get mid-close range and I can't seem to pop them with my carnifex or paladin.

It's a solid gun. Does adequate damage for its handling and weight, especially when you consider that stabilization modules exist (and I'd always rather use an equipment slot to improve my damage output if possible) as well as classes with innate stability bonuses. I'd say a 7 out of 10, out of all guns.

Of course, its niche (light weight, moderate damage, pretty good accuracy) is pretty much pointless with the way the game's played. It would probably need to rival the Argus for damage before most people would consider using it. It beats the pants off every light assault rifle that isn't a Mattock, but what doesn't these days. It's also a nice alternative to light pistols, if you need a light weight side arm for the Acolyte with some actual range on it.

Its damage hasn't kept up, and there's no real enemy it performs especially well against. Its synergy with turians is laughable, since they all prefer full autos or heavier guns. It's a victim of BioWare designing new guns faster than they could create niches for them.

Still. I like it. Solid dependable rare, handy if you want a (more damaging) alternative to the Vindicator or most light pistols. I wouldn't shun it if your manifest isn't near max, and there are cases where it happens to make a decent sidearm. If you absolutely hate burst-fire guns though... well, it's disqualified at the outset.

I would like a small damage buff but its a great weapon for volus. Has a lightning fast reload but runs out of ammo pretty quick.

5/10 almost unusable at range due to the crap climb on the thing. If you need a Turian or a stability mod to not constantly be battling your own gun, go with something other than a crappy SMG.

I've been using the Hornet a lot lately. I was trying to kill two birds with one stone, so I slapped it on my Salarian Engineer while doing the Commando Mastery challenge.

I was not entirely impressed. Damage output is meh. I'm not a huge fan of burst-fire weapons in the first place, but when they do so little damage as well...I will say getting headshots with it was fairly easy, you just aim at the lower torso and fire, if you don't fight the recoil your final bullet should land a headshot.

It's probably really good on the Turian Soldier, but I haven't had the chance to try that yet. Maybe tonight I'll give it a go. Apart from that, it's not an especially decent sidearm, and I'm finding completing the challenge with it far more painful than the Locust or Tempest was.

Now, if I could get the Hornet variant that Cerberus troopers are using....that would be another story entirely.
