Would rather use a Locust or Tempest, out of the other SMGs not named Hurricane.. I'd rate it a 5/10 in the SMG category. 3/10 vs all guns.

favorite SMG. recoil is extremely negligable because of three-round bursting, no need for stability mods because of that, and really nice damage. great CQC weapon. reloads instantly too.

If you want to play a SMG and don't have the Hurricane, take the Hornet.

Unless you have CSMG at X, that is.

I'd give it a 7/10.  It is the 2nd best SMG on most characters that you would want to use an SMG as your primary weapon.  I don't think I'd ever use it over a Hurricane (even L1), but if you don't have a Hurricane or if you want something lighter, it's not bad.  Stability mod really helps for this one.

3/10. ******-poor damage, bad recoil, terrible clip size, no real advantage when using RoF bonuses in my experience, consumables don't make it any less bad, and pretty much unusable since you'll be packing it on a caster and your powers will be doing all the work instead of this piece of trash of a gun. Have tried it with so many characters, but none made it good.

It only has two advantages: weight and the fact that you can instantly reload the gun when you empty the clip and fire a power with good timing, which allows you to shoot with it almost nonstop. I've been trying to do the Hornet challenges FOREVER, and it's just impossible without grinding, which I refuse to do. The Locust, the Tempest, the CSMG, the Hurricane (duh) and even the GPSMG outperform this gun in every single way.

The recoil can be easily remedied with mods.  I like the Hornet a lot, more than many people seem to.  I just like the way it fires and the quick reload.  Obviously, the Hurricane is better, but I'll use the Hornet for some variety.

To people saying it's light : it's not, it's the heaviest SMG around. Same weight as the Hurricane, only it's easier to get the Hornet to level X.

 I'm with the OP... I'll say 4/10... burst is noce, but not on an SMG. So it falls beneath the Hurricane, Tempest, GPSMG, and Locust, IMO.
The only things it's BETTER than are the Collector SMG and the Shuriken. Thena gain, my Collector SMG is only a level I, so we'll see what happens when/if I ever level that up.

If you have a fast trigger finger, it can do some very good damage.
If you have enough extra stability from mods/passives, it's very accurate. You can snipe with it from across the map. It's very good for a caster, allowing them some versatile shooting without killing their cooldown.
I love it, even though my hurricane is at X. The hurricane does more damage, but the Hornet is better at range.

On second thought, 8/10.
It's a very well-rounded gun that compares favorably to other choices in its weight class.
Its only problem is that it's outclassed in certain areas by several guns. For close to mid-range DPS, it loses out to the Hurricane. For long-range headshots, it loses out to the Paladin. With enough of an accuracy and stability bonus, you might do better with a Hurricane, or even a Tempest. It's still very good for casters/Turians, and if you're looking for a gun that can do steady damage at all ranges and set up ammo explosions consistantly without damaging your cooldown.
Still one of my favorite guns.

I love it with a Stability Mod, damage barrel, and AP ammo. Works great on casters with low capacities.

- is not meant for range
- amazing for hip firing while maintaining control at medium to close range.
- burst fire (I like burst fire)
- Looks nice, especially in black
- Looks nicer with the armor penetration barrel
- Underused, so it makes you unique, and awesome.
- makes people be amazed at you.

Recoil Mod + HVB, the gun can do wonders at level X. Well at least I think they're wonders... great for casters, easy for headshots, and is a pretty gun.

Only problem would be pulling the trigger constantly... not trying to sound lazy or annoyed, but it can be uncomfortable if trying to spray for a while. Also the ammo, unless you use a Stabilization Equip, ammo is more sparse.

All in all, great gun. Low weight, good damage, easy to headshot. I recommend this SMG to anyone who doesn't favor the Hurricane more.

Once mastered, the Hornet must be above average in every way.

but.. we have guns that are exceptional in one way or another. These are the guns I prefer.
