It's not even racist to hate batarians. In fact where are all these nice batarians you hippies have met? I've played through all of these games multiple times and I still haven't met a single decent batarian being.
Their government publicly back raiding / piracy, slavery, terrorist cells, anti-human propaganda and I'm pretty sure they do a lot more under the table.
In fact all batarians I've ever had the displeasure of seeing have been racisists (specisists), they all hate / look down on humans and they think the batarian race is far superior to any other race (that's the definition of racist).
Even the ones who aren't trying to kill you or scam you aren't exactly "nice".
Now, if you add the role-playing element of Shepard having been born a colonist or/and served at Torfan, what reason is there to NOT hate batarians?
If your friends and family got slaughtered by a race who's done absolutely nothing to prove they are anything but ruthless, psychotic slavers what is irrational about condeming them?
Sure we're told they're not all jerks but pretty much ALL empiric knowledge teach us otherwise.
Truely the scum of the universe and the only species/race I hate on pure principle (know-days. I didn't used to.... That would have been racist) ![]()

I don't hate Batarians. In fact, I'd love to have one as a squadmate.

Bray may be
I don't hate them either, and just like Vazgen, I would love to have a Batarian squadmate.

Batarians seems like an actual political criticism... kinda like Animal Farm.
My Colonist Shepard don't hate on Batarians and sometimes she thinks Varrens are cute too. I could RP her with an intense hate against the things that killed her family but the story doesn't seem to allow that...

This thread is three years old.
I shot the Balak´s right hand man on sight after I he told me. "Oh we only signed up for raid, enslave and burn, can we go now?"
My Mindoir survivor simply shot him him, when he started talking in the distance. Let Balak go though. Didn´t want to kill the colonists and didn´t knew that the "best alliance pilot" is too incompetent to catch a single leaving shuttle. ![]()

You can leave the batarian in the quarantine zone in ME2 to die and you can kill the one that's fixing the gunship at the mercs place with an interrupt. I did both of these because I play a Shep that hates batarians because of Mindoir, and it does fit quite nicely ![]()

well, Shepard did destroy a Batarian colony and almost spark an intergalactic war with the Hegemony. That's good enough revenge if Shep didn't feel awful about it...

Kill the terrorist in ME 3 or let him suffer. Not sure what´s more hateful though.

I think to let him suffer is more hateful. He practically begs you to kill him. I guess I will just walk away, haha.

How many humans have been killed or enslaved by them?
And they killed my Shepard's parents.

I really wish there was an option when speaking to the terrorist that amounted to:
"I'm sorry, I'm trying to feel guilty for the Bahak system but all I can see are the faces of my mother and father when they were struck by a rocket and the fire that consumed everything and everyone I had ever known and loved.
I hope you will forgive for not giving a damn about dead batarians."

I don't have enough likes for this thread.
Those who hate Batarians clearly do so because they're jealous.
Batarians are the most powerful non-council race; the Quarians live on the edge of total destruction at any time and the Krogan barely have enough ships to get off the ground. The Batarians, however, have tech, biotic, and combat prowess, and aren't bound by Citadel regulations on fleet size.
It makes sense the Reapers would attack them first, even though we all know that's just a plot device to keep Shepard from having to crawl to the Batarians and beg for their aid.

It's their government that's nasty, nothing wrong with Batarians in general. Except for being ugly as sin, I suppose. Shame they got roflstomped instead of being explored as a species, there might have been something nice and interesting in their life, ruled with an iron fist by an oppressive regime. I was always hoping we'd meet a group of anti-government Batarians at some point, but I guess there just wasn't time for it.
