Therefore I'm speculating that Alistair will return as a non playable character and that the "old favorite" is in fact Oghren.
Who here agrees?

As has been stated, it's probably Oghren, since he is the only one that doesn't have a chance to die plus I'm not really sure if you have a choice of NOT recruiting him (he does get "forced" on you, when you meet Branka after all). Other than that I can only speculate that it is possible to meet previous companions/NPC's depending on your choices in the main game (ME2 style, so to speak).

Don't even talk like that! Dog and I are BFFs, we're going to the Deep Roads together thirty years down the line, he's going to live forever!Suzene wrote...
I'm hoping the returning character is dependent on what your final save game was.

Well, big breeds don't usually live all that long (seriously, mastiffs and danes are considered old at eight years), and Dog is already fully grown by the time we meet him, so depending on how long after the original campaign this is set...

Alistair will probably be a non playable character. If he left in the original game, those scenes will probably be replaced by Anora.
How anyone can prefer Anora over Alistair is beyond me.
