So...we have one old character returning in The Awakening.

Oghern would be the most likely for now, because all of his endings translate easily for him to travel with the old PC or a new GW commander. For other party members it would be tough.

Nope expansion happens pretty much soon after the OC as far as I can tell, so definitly not Connor.Asheris wrote...
Could the blond mage (becomeing a warden?) in the trailer be Connor? Hardly our "favorite" returning but I am just thinking...

I can't say with the other characters, I just know I will be pretty mad and annoyed if Alistair is not a playable character since my character is in a romance with him D:<
So he better be!

my ending was Leliana went travelling with the Warden, so i would expect her to be with the warden in the expansion, surely? and this likely won't be the last expansion before DA2, so does that mean our old companions are totally gone for good? because its all well and good adding new ones but not at the expense of our favourite 1's

If you look in the trailer, you see plenty of Alistair but in one shot you do see Oghren in the action briefly for one second.
Therefore I'm speculating that Alistair will return as a non playable character and that the "old favorite" is in fact Oghren.
Who here agrees?
He is the only possible choice as he must be encountered and cannot be killed in the main game. It must be Oghren. Hurrah!
Can Morrigan be killed? Even so she supposedly runs off so she wouldn't work. It has to be the dwarf.

what really annoys me, is the games all about our choices and the effects, yet because of this expansion the romance options you had with certain characters no longer appear to matter.
I have the same fear with Mass Effect 2...but we will find out soon in that case won't we?
I think your romanceable will be in the game just not in the party.

What if you chose to let him die at the dragon? How can he return if he is deadBorschtbeet wrote...

Undead Alistair doesn't sound good.
Does anyone know if it is even possible to use our old characters? (if they did not die at the dragon ofc)

i have no idea why they couldn't have just allowed the romance option characters into the expansion like zevran, leliana. we don't need all of them but 1-2 of the old ones would have made a world of difference, i suppose theres nothing anyone can do about it anyway, its more or less fully developed now.
just seems like the whole origins part has been a complete waste, building up all the relationships for nothing, for bioware to decide to kill them all off in some way or another.

this is what alot of people are quite annoyed at(including myself), its 90% certain that we won't get any of our old characters or romance options available in the expansion, except 1 person like Oghren(who is hardly a favourite), even if they are in the expansion they won't be in the party, so essentially alot of our choices and effort into companion relationships was for nothing, as bioware are simply removing them from the expansion(probably killing them off)

Wow I hope that isn't true, I was happy when I found that there were going to be an expansion that allows our old character to continue. If this is true and we don't get that option then I won't even buy the game. Its stupid to make an expansion that has nothing to do with the first game. I was really looking forward to it, now I am just meh, to much to ask for I suppose.ash the rpgamer wrote...

I just keeps my finger crossed that it isn't the case, we'll see how it turn out when it is out.
Which remind me, at the end of the game, where it says something along the lines with "Spite being a hero, that is not the last you would be seeing/hearing from her/him"
Why the f*** write something like that, which makes you think that you can continue to play with your character, when you can't.
First time I saw it I thought I could still play spite I beat the game, but that wasn't the case. Then I heard about the expansion so I thought the lines were meant for that. Now that might turn out not to be the case. Then why on earth write something deceiving like that, doesn't make sense. But then again nothing in the game world seems to do....

it's sad though. regardless how mega-awesome the coming will be, no doubts here, it feels kinda spoiled for me.ash the rpgamer wrote...
agreed , when i heard about this expansion i wasbut now im disappointed and abit pissed off to be honest, DAO has perhaps some of the best characters ive ever seen, and i got quite attached to them, but the way they are introducing this expansion is just disgraceful, in effect they are scrapping all our companions, regardless of the fact that 99% of the gamers are against it, why bother with any choices or options at all? obviously there is no point and they mean nothing.
ah well at least the elder scrolls V is something to look forward to
*sigh* this always happens to me.

i'm guessing they don't have enough money to pay for the voice actors.

yh that will be the kind of bs excuse they'll come up with, fact is this game costs half the price of the original, and to add a few lines of voice acting is nothing compared to how much is in DAO already, it wouldn't cost much, you can bet on your life they'll have a huge profit margin.
its just very disappointing.

Am I the only person that let Alistair take the last hit on the Dragon and die for the Wardens? When I saw the preview with Alistair all over it I thought, "Oh great...the decision that I made was obviously so far wrong that the Dev's did not even consider it a possibility."
no many people did, i was a male human noble warden that agreed to the ritual with morrigan so i would survive, in fact it was Leliana who got the last hit for me but obviously it doesn't show that

Dog doesn't return? How you gonna explain that?
Turns out dog is a girl and someone got her preggers?
I thought about this too but dogs don't have a very long life span and you have no idea how old Dog is so maybe... *sniff
Edited to add...
That could be Ohgren but isn't necessarily him. It's a warrior dwarf with red hair, that's all we know for sure.
