I'll point out it has been done before. Granted to a lesser extent, but if anyone played Knights of the Old Republic 2, they'll remember it. If you played as a female character at one point of the game you've picked up Disciple, a character alluded to have a slight romantic disposition towards the main protagonist. If you played a male character, Disciple didn't join them, instead it was Handmaiden from another part of the game. It was a nice touch, I thought :)

It may still be wishful thinking regarding the Awakening, but hey :) I'm sure the sequel will be a blast either way :)

God, I hated Disciple. ;)

They're going off the saved games.  It's already been stated.  What that means if you gave up your life and Al's a drunk somewhere, Anora's Queen and Loghain's the GW Commander.... I don't know.  I can just imagine the dialogue between your new Orlesian Warden and Loghain, though.

I will be dissapointed if the current story line ends in this expansion. I want a full fledged sequel to piolot my warden through damnet..

I think the ultimate sacrifice ending is the best way to end the main game so I won't mind starting as a new Gray Warden with the last one being remembered as a hero.

The moust inportatt think i see it that you are able to continue the story with no problems. But there should be an option to start a new. It you start a new caracter every caracter from DA:O will refer to the old hero as one how died the ultimate sacrifice.

Me?i think it will be morrigan since no matter what ending you have she is wandering the mountains.

In one of the endings Flemeth kills her. Serves her right.

Stop perpetuating this rumor. There is NO such ending. kthx.

I have different playthroughs:

in my first playthrough i have chosen Logain over Alistar, and when he got pissed off and said he would have go somewhere, Anora stated that he would probably have caused a ribellion. I agreed with her that best choice is have him arrested and killed on the spot. Even if i did not see him killed (had more important things to do even if i would have enjoyed see the little crying **** sloughtered) i really hope they put an end to his useless life.

I'm using that savegame to play the sequel, and i really hope not to see Alistar anymore even as an npc.

I'm also really attached to some characters, so I'm really sad they won't all be there :(

An elf rogue that looks a lot like Zevren from behind can be seen in the trailer as well. He's around 0:37 in the trailer.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Mask of the Beholder and that is direction they could take. I really would be very disappointed if the only character you get to play with again is your own however I could see them going that way. With so many different possible endings it would be a nightmare to try and cover all the angles.

It is definitely the easiest of all the companions to re-introduce as she is not tied to a given function and as you said she is a nice hook up for the Orlesain new char
She is not killable in the game
She is romance-able  by both men and women and even if you don’t romance her she usually besotted with the player char hence why she would be up for another round of adventure

Added to that it is easy to explain other char disapreance

Morrigan is not likely due to the baby/you not wanting to get the ritual performed.

Sten is back to his homeland

Wynne: regardless how she ended (dead or head of the council) her health would prevent her to follow or may be she died in between the two parties

Alistair
It is about the same as wynne, either he is king drunk or dead,.
If he got to help the hero with the gray warden  at the end of he may be killed as he lead the investigation party that start the whole DA:A

Zevran
the crows finally caught up with him

The dog can and should be like the wolf of the ranger (and not take a companion spot)
But really the dialog is easy so dog may just be there for free.

But I think that if we are lucky we could get to choose on of the 3 romance able char according to the availability in the save.
Leleiana being the recurring companion for new starter.

Phil
ps Zevarn is almost as easily as lelelian but you can kill him in DO:A

what i really wanna see from Bioware is to make the 5 new character available only for the Orlaisian warden origin and let us transfer the original party to the expansion, but that's just my wishful thinking.

Corrupt the ashes with dragon blood. This was even shown in one of the trailers.

That would be ideal
but from a programming stand point
it is very resources consuming unless we are happy to settle for the existing dialog, animation and so on.
and DA:A can use the DA:O files and data format.

Leliana can be killed in the ashes quest or you could just leave her in Lothering.

There are only two characters that cannot be killed and you are forced to take (at least for a bit), and therefore offer continuity to all players -regardless of their actions - that would return in the expansion.

-Morrigan
-Oghren

Take your pick of which is returning. Since Morrigan ran away after the battle like a bat out of hell, my guess is Oghren.
