That'd be pretty awesome. It'd be cool if it was three characters. The Inquisitor (nobody expects them), Warden (either the original or Awakening), and Hawke. Switch between all, and culminates with your choice of which one you want in the finale. Of course, that would just be too ridiculous to be possible in the time frame.

I don't think that will be the plot. I mean, Casandra already did that in DA2 and WE, the players, already knows what happened, not much of a secret to uncover then is it?
As to the suggestion... In what way is this still an rpg? If you switch between characters you no longer experience the plot from one perspective but several, thus taking away the point of having a customized main character in the first place.

That's hardly a requirement.  Many RPGs allow the creation of several distinct player characters.  I would love it if BioWare embraced this party-based approach once again.

I'd rather the pc be optional for side quests, and the companion that's designated as party leader in their stead would have dialogue options to compliment their persona.

This is a terrific suggestion.  The PC should not always have to be part of the active party. Much like the rescue in KotOR, the assault in KotOR2, or the rescue in DAO.

I'd rather see this is MP as part of a co-op story mode. 3-4 players that take the role of companions in a story driven quest. I don't want the Inquisitor left behind while companions go off questing by themselves in the main campaign. Why would they need me then?

Why should they need the PC ever?

It's a team.  The team should send the group best suited to a specific task.  That group might not include the PC.

I prefer my roleplaying games to be "role" playing not "roles" playing personally. :)

I don't think we are talking a Gabrial Knight and Grace Nakamura setup here.
Id Est were you play a different character per act type of thing but more something like the rescue in DA:O.

As well this could be an option, to use all team members (kind of a of a meanwhile at the ranch).

As appealing as that sounds to me too, it's also completely unfeasible, at least on a routine level.

You can thank full voice acting for that. No way they'll register all the possible combinations for a great number of sidequests depending on the character you can select as the group leader in your absence. Ex. you'd need specific dialogue for Morrigan if she is the group leader for quest X; dialogue for Leliana if she is the group leader for quest X; dialogue for Sten if he is the group leader for quest X; dialogue for Morrigan if she is the group leader for quest Y;... and so on. And this for how many quests? Ten? Twenty? And each should have specific lines of dialogue for each possible different party leader?

Maybe they could do it a couple of times throughout the game, but no more than that. Voice acting is just too expensive; they could not have done that as a recurring feature even in DAO. In IE games, with partial voice acting (=not all NPCs' lines were dubbed), it would have been a possibility.
