Also there is a tutorial section on the ME3 Explorer website. For example I wrote this one on sorting through and understanding basic files.

Spoiler alert too: I'm also working on a website (learning HTML/CSS as well -_-') which will have tutorials for how to use Texmod, Gibbed Save Editor, ME 3 Explorer, etc. Hopefully that'll be up sooner than later and I'll make a bunch of new tutorials on how to actually join and be apart of the whole "ME3 Explorer modding" community.

That's awesome, PKchu. Hopefully something like that will kickstart much-needed interest in ME3's modding community.

I'll read through those tutorials now to try and get a better understanding of what exactly would need to be involved with mods like this.

on the other note, what about a basic transparentcy and re-texture mod for the tali faceplate, making her face more visible and more like the photo's image? jean luc had a mod i think you said? but is that the only one?

If you have any questions Elk, feel free to PM me on this forum or even better post in the General Help section on the ME3 Explorer, the developers are always eager to help people trying to do cool stuff in ME3 Explorer.

And yeah, I hope my website drives a lot of interest. I think a lot of people are just unaware of all awesome things you can do. I know it was a pain the ass finding all the information the first time.

@badmojo88: You know, I'm not even sure of what controls the Tali faceplate on the actual texture - I've not done much editing of that skin. There's just a "face thing" you see on the map, not like a plate like you'd expect. It might be an individual texture itself, I've never messed with it. I know the face opacity that is more visible in Jean-Luc's Tali edit is just the face in the "blue" channel made more visible in the specular map.

Would be easy to find out by flipping through the game's textures with Texmod, but that's not really a direction I'm super interested in going. Unless I was working on a ME1-in-ME3 style rextexture or Colossus armor.

It's not a total face reveal in game, but I thought it actually added a ton of detail to her face and made it more personal.

Oh - and yeah, you might run into some problems making the visor "see-through," if there's a texture in game and I make it, for example, pure white or thinly spread out white, it's not going to make the visor "clear" with just a texture edit. I tried to make a "transparent missile launcher" edit once and it didn't turn out so great. There might be a way to do this, but I don't know tbh, I haven't tried something like that before.

I've made this with the game files from ME3. And in theory it should be possible for facial animations to work... The only problem is that I'm not 100% sure that Tali have any facial animations attatched to all of her facial bones (except for her eyes).

Give me a yell if this is something interesting for you all.

Note: I can modify the characters outside of the game. But I have no idea when it comes to bringing them back into the game again.

that is exactly what i mean for the face place, its almost perfect just like that, what im saying is the faceplate maybe 10% more transparent and the face detail 10% sharper (20% total chang-up but only slight in either extreme) would that be doable, ot has that already been done?

Wow! Nice work, Slip!

I believe that importing the models back into the game, rigging them, then loading them at specific instances mid-scene is currently our dilemma. But having a great model like that is a phenomenal start!

I'll get back to you with more thoughts once I'm finished with these tutorials. Any other expert modders out there wanna provide imput?

He shoot's and scores!

If this character were posed for her face reveal however, I can think of two camera angles that could work nicely.

One is the full frontal that focuses soley on Tali's face as she looks beyond the camera, with the mountain rockface preventing us seeing anything behind her. This could then cut away to the in game shot of Tali looking out over her world where the horizon stretches as far as we can see. This approach would mean that you would only have to synch her mouth and word's, "Right now".

The other is more challenging as it would require a 1/4 shot that runs into the problem of hood obscuring. The hood would have to come down as well, revealing more face and hair, thus giving the players more Tali face to sate their reveal appetite. However, I don't think modding her hood to be thrown back is possible. Then there is the hair texturing etc. It's a shame because as a photographer a 1/4 shot with some up-angle to capture the sky and possibly some lens flair from the sun would look fantastic.

*edit* Nvm the lens flair, checked the scene and the suns in the wrong place.

Cheers buddy Posted Image. Just let me know if you want the 3d model and textures.
I'll see if I can improve her a little bit.

Cheers to you too Posted Image!

Oh the hood can be animated, that's not too difficult to do outside of the game (I just need to give her some hair first Posted Image). Only problem is import the actual model (with the bones intact) to the game. I do have a nagging feeling that ME3 is very picky when it comes to the bone structure of the characters... So the hood animation might have to be cut out.
Another way to give some form of satisfaction, to all Tali fans, is make a movie file and add it on youtube...
It's not inside the game, but its better than nothing.

We shall see what the talent people over at ME3Explorer recommend Posted Image.

Thanks SlipperyHammer.

We'll have to see what happens next in terms of what can be done with ME3 Explorer right.

This is correct that the only thing that animates on the character models face is her eyes.  Having pulled the model in UE Viewer, there is no mouth either to apply animation to.  I am also sure that the hood does not have any "joints" to manipulate.  Still, I would be interested to see what someone can come up with in conjunction with ME3 Explorer.

As for currently "seeing" Tali's face in game PK has explained it very well.  Varying  texmods that replace either the textures on her model or the photo are the only current way to alter Tali in the game.

Thanks Sentinel, I figured it probably worked that way but oh well.

The list of barriers is pretty high but the great model SlipperyHammer posted magically falling out of the sky is a huge fundamental element of the whole thing. (If I could get those files too SH, I would really appreciate it.)

It might just be a long wait for anything "coherent" to be assembled.

Mind if I tweak the light and colour values a bit? My eye's telling me the level's need to be tucked in.

No problem, you can go ahead and try to tweak the Picture. I also added this one:

Posted Image

This one has no effects at all, except for some reflections and lights from the 3d program.
Let me know if you want a clean pose of her against a alpha layer Posted Image.
I'm currently working on some tweaking for the model.

A question for you all, do you want Tali to have any hair on the model? If so, what kind of length? Long or short?

I'd generally just match the in-game picture, so long hair.

Thank you for your work and efforts tweaking the model.

A clean pose would be great as well.

In all honesty, the hair in the photo on Shepard's bedside works for me. It's got that, 'mussed up in a helmet and hasn't seen a comb' look.

Rebalanced the colour. I think it's still off as I'm on my home computer that isn't calibrated.

*edit, in fact, something's obviously wrong here. This pic looks like it's lower resolution than the original. Must have happened on my end. I'll look into it.

*edit, found the problem. BSN albums are scaling everything down. This should fit on a wide screen in view mode.

Also had a look at the picture of Tali and noticed that, while she doesn't have obvious pupils, she does have some indication pupils, hard to say with the lens falre in that photo. None the less I had a go at duping the effect.

You know what I would love? If once you guys managed to get this Tali ingame and working 100% as you'd like.. that you make a special reward Costume if you manage to bring peace to the Quarian's and Geth. To show that the Geth have improved her immune system immensely, allowing her to abandon her mask/hood for good.

Maybe it's too much to hope for, but, if we did not dream then there would be no sci-fi.

Yeah i see what you mean, been doing some testing there myself.

Think it's on the right way, might tweak her eye glow a bit more.
