Seems pretty rushed, we are talking about new engine AND hardware, Bioware is not Naughty Dog...

How is that timetable rushed? With the techniques developers are working with a game is a lot faster to develop. mid 2015 end 2015 is good enough.

I hope the next (and last?) ME3 DLC finds a way to bridge to the ME4 story so we get a sneak peek.

Why do I feel giddy everytime BioWare says its going to make a new game; even if their last two games left us dissapointed?

Oh noes! I'm... I'm...

A ****!

I sincerely hope that they don't intend to release this as early as late 2013 or early 2014. Especially after obvious rush job that Mass Effect 3 was.

So more development time means instantly better game? Sure you have a small point but to skip a game if it takes two years...

Also I hardly believe they will announce ME4 for late 2014. Mid 2015 will be the most realistic time but I bet it will be end 2015.

When a developer says "we're aiming for sometime between late-2014-to-mid-2015" TWO YEARS+ before that date when the project just enter actual developement, especially when talking about a next-gen title with new engine, it means it won't release till like mid-2015-to-late 2015.

interesting, thanks. I wonder what really prompted the change to frostbite 2 over say, the familiar unreal engine (4). At least this confirms a next-gen game experience.

Probably the fact that EA owns Frostbite and licensing 3rd party engines costs like $1+ million. Not THAT much compared to overall budgets of AAA games like ME or DA, but still. Plus, having in-house engine means faster and better support. And DICE has one of the very best technical teams in the industry, so EA probably wants to make full use of the available assets rather than licensing stuff from 3rd parties

I believe epic games gets paid for every copy sold.

Longer development cylces certainly do not guarantee a good game, but short cycles are are usually a red flag. Dragon Age 2 certainly could've used more time. It was a game with tremendous upside, but it just didn't quite make it. The same could be argued for Mass Effect 3, though things like the journal could've been an intended design rather than a rushed one. All I'm saying is that if they take their time on the game and really polish it there's not much that can really go wrong. There is much that can go wrong if they do rush it though. Saying I'm going to skip it if it comes out in 2014/ very early 2015 might be too extreme, but I certainly will not pre-order it.

Mass Effect 4 in the same year as Star Wars: Episode VII? I can barely contain my oil!

I can already sense the numerous "Mass Effect vs. Star Wars" fan arguments brewing...lol

There isn't one, Star Wars is for kids, Mass Effect isn't.

That's for devs who can't afford to pay Epic $1+ million upfront for full license.

You won't get any complaint from me bub, I'm in complete agreement. It's my favorite sci-fi universe out there. I'm still curious about the new SW series of movies though....It will be interesting to see if the pendulum swings the other way and Mass Effect influences Star Wars.

But why change the engine now:blink:, I mean E.A. could've done that back in ME2, make it with Frostbite, no need to pay Epic.

You would have had to wait until next year for ME3. Plus, there may have been compatability issues with the save transfers. If thy swapped engines entirely.

Damn, E.A., but one has to wonder how ME3 would look like with 3-4 years of development.:P

It's a fairly simple answer. BioWare's developers are more familiar with the unreal technology and using the UE3 would ensure that no new problems from switching would come up with the game.

I don't think ME games need to take 4 years.

Well now they will be using Frostbite 2, but that Montreal studio, as for Edmonton aren't they doing a new IP?:wizard:
