I think this ME lore's observation deserves its own thread...

So who would be paying the reviewers to make bad reviews? Who exactly? The retakers?

I didn't know the retakers had a collective bank account. Last I checked they were a bunch of gamers who liked to make RGB cupcakes.

The cupcakes were a clever ruse to make you underestimate them, my evil twin is a mastermind I tell you!

Without necessarily applying in this context in particular, the people with the greatest incentive to make bad reviews can easily be the reviewers themselves.

In a system widely regarded as having positive reviews 'bought' for, negative reviews can be just as much tools for leverage in the future. Ignoring the prospect of competitor-developers buying negative review for their rivals, even just vis-a-vis a single company a negative review can be a punishment from a reviewer to a company for NOT 'buying' the review. Whether the reviewer was shunned for the producer or the producer refused to offer the desired amount of money (the relationship of someone soliciting a bribe), the negative review can be used as a retaliation for the producer not buying the positive review. This way, if the reviewer is influential enough, the next time the producer comes out with a game they want to succede they'll be more likely to bribe the reviewer, so the reviewer gets his or her 'cut'.

Or so how such things might happen if you believe the system works in such a pay-for-praise system.

Glad you did say that this does not apply here, because in the cases where negative reviews have been bought and paid for the idea is to gain revenue.  It's done in the hospitality industry regularly-people are paid to negatively review one hotel or lots of hotels in order to increase the clientele for another.

But, in the OP's context, gee I don't see the monetary gain.  In fact, the ones that stood to lose the most were actually the real for pay reviewers such as Game Informer (Game Stop) which is not about to even attempt to be extremely negative about any of their big name gaming titles because they need to sell them.  IGN also has links to buy the games they are reviewing, whereas I get no remuneration at all from saying BW ruined my ME experience by creating an ending ball of wax I don't like.  I have no sponsors so unfortunately if there's money to be made, no one told me.  I guess you need to know the secret handshake or something.

I also do understand that it's possible that some dev might think it sounds like a good idea to have people trash talk the competition, but it makes no sense because that's no guarantee that it will mean their game will sell.  In fact, for a long time ME3's debacle (the one that did exist for real) made me dislike all video games.  I wanted one that was like ME and let me make choices and that had characters I cared about, but there was nothing like it-and in the end it was nothing like itself, either.

Rival game development companies of course. The less reputation BioWare has, the more potential new fans rival companies will get. For example, people, who never wanted to try Witcher 2, or Halo 4, or Starcraft 2, (or whatever) may decide to try these games just because they were "very disappointed" with their favorite game...

...They may find something "they expected to see in ME3" in those games. So, they will just start to advertize those games on BSN for free, and keep attacking BioWare's reputation.

...Cheap and effective. Order some negative reviews, hire some people who will regulary troll on BSN, and wait for more income in nearest future. My guess is that companies like ActivisionBlizzard may be involved in sabotage. They just love to play dirty.

So you actually think some of the people here are hate the game because they were hired to?

And here I thought the IT was the biggest conspiracy on this forum. I'm afraid I have been mistaken.

Hired trolls/reviewers are very few, but they know how to provoke the crowd and play on people feelings. Most haters are just victims of trolling, and don't actually hate the game.

so now there's a conspiracy by games companies to tarnish the name of mass effect three? and a counter conspiracy to make it look good because:
A; the official sites with advertising and revenue, who rarely finish a game in order to give timely reviews and are notoriously generous to AAA titles gave it a good score?

and B: the unoffocial and fan made sites actually finished the game, judged it against the merits of it's predecessors and don't need to brown nose gave it less favourable scores?

this thread went from funny to scary in two pages.

That was worse. Basically advocating that people who don't want synthesis be put in ghettos.

I think that by far worst atrocity was a Harry Harrison and Sevial´s philosophy heading straight into Godwin´s law...

Nah, I understand where his logic originates, and it "makes sense". I do think that some of the hate around the BSN festered due to unnecesssary hyperbolic ranting that preyed specifically on an emotional response, evidenced by the same buzzwords traveling between negative sources used in the same context or embellished with even more exaggeration.  In-crowd behavior.

It's just ludicrous to apply it to a conspiracy in the way Seival has.

Fair, but I was concentrating specifically on the last sentence.

Which really, really doesn't make any sense at all.

You need to reevaluate you usage of the word "worst", because that topic was frightening, hilarious, and pricess all at the same time.

Doesn't it cut both ways? You could just as easily say that whatever positive opinion people have of this game is because of insidious manipulation from a shady cabal.
