I've had dogs in DAO, DA2, the Fable series, the Fallout series, Arcanum, Skyrim.

Enough with the damn dogs. Give me an eagle, or a lynx. Something new.

Mabari's are getting a bit old, personally, and I thought it was supposed to be a "super dooper special" breed of animal that was rare to own in DAO,but in DA2 we just kinda have one.
What's wrong with a cat companion?  Something akin to Ser Pounce A Lot that revives you from the dead > mabari hound.

I prefer it be a summoned creature, But be able to interact with NPCs.
I would also like it not to disappear every time I go threw a door.

I would prefer a griffon or a dragon

An intelligent bird (a raven, an eagle...) with a couple of special skills to attack / distract your enemies would be fine. Not as a "real" companion, of course - just someone you can summon into battle and make more effective with a specific skill tree.

I'd prefer more interesting disposable creature summons. Make it a limited consumable item so that taking advantage becomes a strategic and tactical consideration.  I never liked the whole "ranger can summon pets" thing because it makes little sense, but, well, "a wizard did it" etc.

So long as it makes sense for the PC to have a mabari, sure.

But since it'd stretch my suspension of disbelief a bit if every PC is going to have a mabari sidekick, why not give it to a companion this time? An Ash Warrior or something.

Well, that wouldn't be a pet... would be? O.o

It just wouldn't be YOUR pet. ;)

Having a dog in DAO and DA2 didn't exactly stop every single companion interacting with it. And the best part about the mabari has always been the dialogue anyway, IMO. Doesn't have to belong to the PC for that.

OP would very much like a dragonling he could summon into battle in the same manner as the Mabari in DA II. I also wouldn't mind seeing the return of the Ranger specialization because... MORE CREATURES TO SUMMMON!!! (yay!)

No opinion. I'm good if they bring back a mabari companion as a full party member or a summonable pet, as both options had their benefits.

Though if it were up to me, we'd have a summonable ghast.

Mabari are supposed to be a Fereldan thing, mostly. Time to leave them behind.

Ghasts are nasty little things. It would be cool to able to summon one.

I would like the Mabari as a summoned pet since it doesnt take up a companion spot. I always hated giving up a spot for my mabari, no matter how much I loved him, because it meant less banter overall. Summoning fixed that issue.
However, I hope they feel the mabari feel more alive then DA2 did. The mabari did not only look worse in DA2 but iI felt it was lacking certain traits Origins Mabari had. It didnt seem as real when u tried to interact with it, or as interesting. Though honestly I felt that way about all DA2 companions compared to Origins.
Also let us level it up.

I'd prefer it as a summoned pet like DA2. If it's a companion I'm never going to use it. I'm not wasting a companion spot on a dog that can't talk and add dialogue to the story.

I prefer the summon, so I don't lose a slot for a companion.

Edit:  I also prefer a Mabari to all of the other suggestions.  (unless we can have a desire demon "pet")  Image IPB

I wonder what would happen to a cat if you fed it some tasty Darkspawn flesh?

Would you just have a dead cat? A broodmother cat with little ghoul kittens? Or perhaps GIANT BLIGHT CATS?!

I never used the mabari in either game, and since using it is completely optional i see no reason to include it in either form.

As a summoned pet. I'd like that instead of him taking a spot. After all we are required to have one rogue to get chests open already. I just don't have the room for the hound. Unless they remove the "token" rogue from your party. I like how Mass Effect did this, by giving Shepard hacking tools.

And cat companion? No thanks. Not loyal enough.

I don't mind having one  as long as they don't REPEATEDLY BARK THROUGH EVERY LINE OF ****ING CONVERSATION!!

Sorry been playing through Dragon age origins and it's ****ing annoying having to turn the background sound down because I dont want to hear the STUPID ****ING MABARI!

I would like a Mabari as a summon that is "always present" in DA2 but operates like a fully fleshed out and fledged companion.
Because DA2 mabari was weaksauce.

I voted 'no mabari', because, while I love them and know about the lore, the mabaris seem so Ferelden in my mind.
