I prefer the mabari to be a summon, as in DAO I couldn't justify bringing my dog with me instead of other characters. That said, I'd like to be able to upgrade it to some extent.

Also, if it must be a mabari (I'm more of a giant battle-cat person, myself), let it be female. Please.

I want a pet that's a different breed of dog for a change.

If we have to have a mabari, I'd rather not summon it as if its a pokemon or something..

I'm also bored to death with mabary hounds, i want something new, a wolf, lepard, cougar, scorpion or any other area/region specific wild life preferably a griffin or dragonling ( don't want it as a f@@@ mount, if it is used as such in a cutscene to infiltrate the castel or whatever, not as an ingame skill/option )
Regarding its role if we have 4 aditionel slots becides your character i'm more than ok with a full companion, if we are still going to have a 4 man team it is definetly a permanent summon that can still be interactable, with the same grafical design as a fulll character not the pokemon design as in DA:II

Companion of course! He wasn't the most useful party member, but bringing him along while I ran errands in the cities and the resulting dialogue was more than worth it! "No, you can't keep him!"

Keeping mabari hounds is a distinct Fereldan tradition. (so much so that people from other countries mock them for it)

DA:O (you know, that officially forgotten prequel to DA2) took place in Ferelden, so the Warden had the option to encounter and keep a mabari. (Or already own one, as a Fereldan noble)

DA2's main character was Fereldan himself, so this was justified as well.

Unless the main character in DA3 has herself some ties to Ferelden, the writers would have to jump through a lot of hoops in order to justify the inclusion of a mabari. Which would probably look forced. (Not that they haven't atrociously ignored their own lore before...)

So, the answer is no, for story reasons.

The creation of the Mabari hounds was positively inspired, and Dragon Age would not be the same without them.  I  preferred having Dog as a companion, as he was quite strong in combat and it allowed me to interact with him in a way that was personally satisfying, but I can understand why others prefer him as a summon.  Given the choice, I'd prefer him to fill a companion slot.

I never suggested that BioWare do away with them entirely, I'm just not sure I want one as a companion again. I'm not even sure I want one as a summonable pet. I'm cool with Mabari being in the game, but I won't get all butthurt if we don't have a pet Mabari in Inquisition.

I liked the Mabari better in DA2. I never used him in DA:O because he took up a companion slot which I would rather use for a human.

How many of these heroes of Thedas happen to have pet Mabari's? its getting to much to be coincidence. We should have a different type of pet in DA3 for the sake of variety.. Maybe a small mountain lion or a cool parrot or even just a different breed of dog

I'm fine with either but I found DA2's version to be more fun.  I could always have my faithful hound with me and not miss out on party banter or anything.  I also found it entertaining that he was as reliable a tank as Aveline.  I'd be wondering where he was and find him tanking 3-4 enemies by himself.  I love my mabari <3.

I should stress that, whatever they decide to do, I would like a pet that I can have some interaction with. I don't need to feed and groom the thing, but I'd like to keep the "home base" dialogues with your pet. If it's just a summonable creature that no one in the party acknowledges the existence of like Blackwing in the Order of the Stick, that's pretty lame.

A poll inquiring into how you good people on the BSN feel about the Player Character having a Mabari in Dragon Age III.

Disclaimer: We'll probably be getting one in some form or other, so if you're going to leave comments about that, please don't.

What makes you think we'll for sure be getting one? Last I checked, the devs haven't made any comment on the subject.

I love having a mabari, and it was really nice not having to use a slot for him, since there were so many characters I liked using.
