This game focuses on your individual
decisions and is far too story driven to make multiplayer even viable.
It would only have a place during combat, but considering the pause and
play nature of the game, that wouldn't work well either.
Except neither of these issues prevented either Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, or Icewind Dale 1 & 2 from having fully integrated multiplayer.

The Bioware developers said that only one player can make the dialogue choice, so the rest of the players would be twiddling their thumbs during cutscenes and dialogue. They did not want to spend time and effort to change the interface, prefering to focus solely on making DA the best single player experience possible, an objective they handily achieved.
Players "twiddled their thumbs" in the game I mention above and it worked out just fine.

If you want a Bioware story experience w/ multiplayer then wait for The Old Republic. Granted its an MMORPG, but I think you will be satisfied.
What I have read about that Star Wars mmo leads me to believe that it will have all the cool elements of Dragon AGe such as origins, quests with multiple endings, cool settings story and with the regular mmo content patch updates. BUT the graphics style is just terrible. Way too cartoony. If they used DA's serious and bloody graphics style, I would sign up for sure.

This game is amazing, probably one of the funnest RPGs I have ever played. The only thing I am wondering though is why Bioware did not allow multiplayer? It would be great to play with a couple of friends and quest together. I'm not talking on the scale of an MMO, but I'm pretty sure diablo 2 had something similar. What do you guys think?
You know what I wish (probably won't happen) Bioware makes a movie.
Hey...Avatar is both a movie and a game.
Would be cool, I'd buy the dvds no prob.

I can think of other video game to movies that sucked:
Mario
Street Fighter
DnD movie with that ridiculous ending "do not question your gift" ugh
If they have a DA movie and they call it Dragon Age: Evolution
with the main character going to Sunday school I'm gonna have nightmares for weeks.

MP, meh. I understand why people want, I just don't think it's the best way for the developers to spend time. When you focus more in one area you have to take away from another, and to me this is a SP game, this is a story, your characters story and I'd hate to see quality lost simply for a novelty like MP.

I think Dragon Age Online could replace that.

Nobody's asking for a separate mode, here, just a multiplayer version of the normal campaign, a la Baldur's Gate.

The point about multiplayer is that you DON'T have to pause the game, since there is now a human intellect behind your partymates. You don't have to alter their strategy every 0.05 seconds, like you have with AI controlled henchmen.

No MMO please. I think it would ruin the game. Hence why I stopped playing WoW.
A multiplayer mode doesn't mean DA is going to be turned into an MMO. Multiplayer mode means that you can play with a few friends over LAN or on a private server, like with NWN1 and NWN2.

Welcome to the future, where "Multiplayer" + "RPG" will almost always be interpreted as "MMORPG".

I know what the OP was saying. I was just making a statement about it ever becoming a Massive Multiplayer Online RPG. Playing WoW left a bad taste in my mouth for MMORPG's.Fantus wrote...

To play with friends might be fun, but then all the dialog would be centered around one person, or friends who may argue about what action to take. Who knows, it may work as it did for NWN.

If you're assuming I think Multiplayer automatically means WoW. You're mistaken. I'm not that ignorant , but thanks for your wonderful insight.Godak wrote...

Since it DID work for NWN, NWN2, Icewind Dale1, Icewind Dale 2, Baldur's Gate 1 and Baldur's Gate 2 already, that is a rather safe assumption to make.
And MMOs are so utterly different from "normal" RPGs, that I can assure you, it's very much impossible to simply "turn" DA into an MMO by adding a few lines of code...you need not to fear!

I hope you know that WoW is just one among many MMOs. Sadly its most played and known one but you cant judge all MMos based on one.
I played 5-6 of them, from small niche games not many people know about to bigger ones like LotRO and AoC, including WoW, and trust me they can very much differ - from combat mechanics and overal challenge to the community. Players of certain games utterly despise WoW and still play MMO.

Even NWN1 PW's (persistent world servers) are probably a kind of "mini MMO's" in their own right...and the playing experience there...is totally different from WoW I can assure you...
NWN don't require online connectivity as well. Not if you are going to play single player games only at least.Loki0012 wrote...
I bought this game only becoz it has doesnt need online connectivity which I like like Diablo
