The Deep Roads were the best part of Dragon Age imo, I think there needs to be a lot more of them. If I had it my way, I would make a whole Awakening-type expansion that took place solely in Orzammar/Kal Sharok and Deep Roads. There are so many lost thaigs, treasures and secrets hidden in there to take up several games.

Plus, there are also darkspawn caves and tunnels that go even deeper, and somewhere down there are the sentient darkspawn we saw in DAA.

BIOWARE DO IT NAO

Please god, no. Unless they can make them look actually interesting.

In real life, there are a variety of underground environments, and lots of beautiful and interesting things. In DA:O all we got was endless stretches of brown rock. DA2 was a vast improvement, but still quite monotonous, even for that short time that we spent there.

Yeah, there should be caves with crystal formations and shafts going down into darkness, that sort of stuff. But I love the concept of the deep roads, its claustrophobic and mysterious. Perfect for exploring.

I'd love to see Kal sharok. It never occured to me that some would find it tedious. I'd like to see a whole game centered on the Dwarves or any of the other countries. I don't want it in DA:I though. I'm thinking that's more about politics and armies and such.

The Deep Roads are one of my most hated video game levels. Please stay away from them BioWare.

Ugh, please no.

While the Orzammar/Deep Roads questline was interesting, traversing through them was not. They became quite tedious, especially after multiple playthroughs.

I'd prefer something like Cadash Thaig or the Primeval Thaig.

Check out what the golem says, ""The Stone lives beneath Orlais. Mathas gar na fornen pa salroka atrast."

DA3 will be set in Orlais, so there will definitely be more stuff in the deep roads

I want more Deep Roads, Old Thaigs, and mysterious caves.

Maybe Bioware can take ideas from Petra? You guys know Petra? Ancient peoples carved caves and rocks making buildings and live in there in Middle East. One of 7 Wonders in the world.

And add some imagination...in a place where there is no sun...have big mushrooms, some creatures with no eyes but detect things using sound, and such things...or maybe like "Journey to the end of the Earth"

I actually agree with everyone that has posted. More Deep Roads would be AWESOME...on the stipulation they're more than just big corridors full darkspawn. We get underground *cities* full of darkspawn, lore, and ancient treasures (a fair share of which may not be the portable kind, but rather the plot kind) I'l be a happy Inquisitor.

DAO Orzammar/Deep Roads section was awesome. That claustrofobic feeling while traveling through endless tunnels and lost thaigs while attacked occasionally by darkspawn, the best. And to get out you had to go through Orzammar. It really felt you were walking in the lost empire of dwarfs. Whom still proudly and stubbornly cling into their lost glory.

Well atleast the tunnels in Origins were really tunnels and not cracks in the ground like in DA2. "Weeks in the underground", and you had sun shining from the ceiling?! Riiiiiight.

I think that more Deep Roads would be a great addition to Dragon Age 3. But they would need to make the levels more aesthetically pleasing. Deep Roads in Dragon Age Origins was great, but the level desing kinda stressed me out. And please, no broodmothers. That thing gave me nightmares.

Ugh.... alright, I can take it if everyone wants more.... Deep Roads.
I personally wanted to just get out of Deep Roads as soon as I could, both in DAO and DA2, I don't like closed spaces.
But the Hespith and Broodmother and that Archdemon leading part was awesome.
I'd like to have more forests.

As long as we get to go to Kal Sharok I'm happy. If not... Well, then I'll take a long walk at the beach with corny 80's music to ponder how to get over my grief.

I'd like to have an entire dwarven based game reclaiming some of the Deep Roads - with crazy dwarven intrigue and power brokering.

But for a human based campaign - I'd actually like less Deep Roads.

I'm with you, I loved the deep roads! The deep roads in DA2 were so small and linear and boring, there was nothing to do or explore D: I hate short, easy quests, I want more large quests like in DA:O

I don't really understand what game developers are going for in this situation, but from a literary point of view, this hate a lot of people feel about the Deep Roads is perfect. It's dark, it's boring, it's repetitive, it's stifling, it goes on forever, when will I get out of here? What is that noise? What is that filth clinging to the walls? I'm never going to get out at all, am I? There's no end to this place. I hate it here.

Of course it was boring on your second + playthroughs, but the first time I played DA:O I thought the Deep Roads were perfect. And we complain about them being visually boring, but that's not fair. Parts were wide open thaigs lit with an eerie blue light and filled with ghosts and golems and spiders, while others were small, spindly passages in the rock where you didn't know what was around the corner. Still others had great stone bridges over lava, while another area wasn't even part of the Deep Roads at all, but dug into the natural stone by the darkspawn.

The Deep Roads in DAII still don't feel like they belong in the story to me. We spend a very small amount of time in there, especially given how deep and forgotten it supposedly is. It's just the reverse of DA:O -- now we have fewer cool environments and the entire quest is over in no time. Plus there's a dragon, which I personally have no idea how that got there.

I'm sure it's tough for the devs to balance fun gameplay and good storytelling, but the Deep Roads can't be the same flavor of fun as some of the other parts of the game. It's different. It's dark, it's creepy, it's sometimes tediously boring and sometimes impossibly stressful. It has to be that way to be the Deep Roads.

Mark me down as another who would love to see the Dark Roads return. I enjoyed them in Origins and have always appreciated long, dark and dangerous dungeon crawls more generally.

LOL! Well, the spiders eat the darkspawn and grow huge on the taint... but you're right -- "Let's just throw a dragon in there for good measure" does sound exactly like something Varric would do.  Posted Image

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I loved the Deep Roads. The DA:O ones moreso than the DA2 ones because the DA:O ones looked like filthy tunnels whereas the DA2 ones looked as if they had a cleaning service, but even then, they were still very atmospheric. I'm not saying that there isn't room for improvement. A little more variety would be welcome. For example, I loved the contrast between the Cadash Thaig and the other thaigs. The cracked ceiling letting in natural light and allowing vegetation was beautiful.
