What I like about this character is how the powers actually do work well together.

The Sentry Turret (although I opt for rocket turret on the QFE with some degree of success) & Sabotage (without TC boosts) are underwhelming by themselves. The Homing Grenades do decent damage, but they are slow.

However, when you combine the three, which you can fairly easily, you get very good results. Again, I'll have to test on a solo to really know to what extent.

The Sentry Turret with Shock & Flamer is a great crowd control & priming tool (I admit that I wish it did more damage). Add Sabotage for the Tech buff, and it does much more damage. On top of that, Sabotage will prime the Homing Nades for TBs (which also benefit from Sabo's Tech buff), and the Flamer primes for FEs. You'll get one or the other, and sometimes both (depending on the enemies' protection, and if split nade evo is taken).

Of course you can put a good weapon on a bad character and make it work, but I feel that the powers do their job of whittling down enemies, containing spawns, and giving me freedom to unload my weapon upon them, a symphonic harmony of destruction.

Hopefully, this will all hold up in the solo test, but for 5 matches played, I felt weapon and power went hand in hand quite well. He is less of a caster and more of a hybrid, imo. Somewhat like I view the Huntress or Valkyrie. They have powers, but I only use them to complement my weapon usage.

I'm not saying he is the best character out there, but I do feel he is far from the worst. I don't feel it is just novelty speaking either.

There is intelligent life in the universe! lol

You're right, he's solid. I'll go as far and say there's some interesting potential here, but it will take time until he's really figured out. Bioware's clever. Every class seems to hold some secret, some special combination that can work well. After all that though, it's simply personal preference.

Man, I love this game.:wizard:

Agreed.  I'll be the first to admit that I didn't like the thought of the Vorcha Hunter, so I didn't even unlock him the week of his release.  Once I played him, he quickly became my favorite Vorcha (not a huge fan of Flamer).  He also gives my stocked up cryo ammo some use.

I still haven't come around to the Volus Mercenary though.  I know a few people do like him, but he is simply not for me.

Anyway, I hope that opinions do turn around for the Saboteur.  In the meantime, I'll continue to enjoy playing him.

Candlejack, you edited your post, but I think having proximity mine might be interesting on QMS.

Two debuffs is something no other soldier has. With a light weapon a 2/6/6/6/5 might be an interesting approach to it.

I use him with Homing grenade and Sentry turret spec'd out. I'm not a big fan of sabotage. He's an ok character.

However his sabotage might need testing, as it seems something wrong is involved.

I don't think Homing Grenades give tech power medals, therefore I do not think it counts as a tech power.

Same. I think Sabo only boosts turret damage, not nade damage.

What you think and the reality are different things.

Well that was worth opening this thread up just to see that.  I'm one of the people who believed that they were combat powers.  Nice to be proven wrong.

Learning that the TV evolution affects Homing Grenades makes quite a difference in my opinion.  I'll be respeccing and giving him another try.  I was not impressed last night, but am willing to re-evaluate my position and try something different.

They give combat kills but benefit from tech bonuses, including Engineering gear.

maybe you dont know how to use him? he's a combat engineer and I love both sentry turret and homing grenade, if you use the bottom rank 6 evo on sabo, then use the grenade, you can deal a lot of damage.

Cloak + Trenchcoat = WIN!

Also, you know, Drell.  Lots of people love playing the other two, and can't wait for a third option.

No, he is not a good Engineer. IMO, think of him as a soldier with tech powers.

Spec for weapons damage, use powers as utilities, kind of a character.

No. Cuz Recon Mine debuffs are better than PM, has a larger radius, and is a wallhax for the whole team.

Unless his passives are prebuff, his Fitness lacks speed boosts, and his Recon Mine is found to buff enemies

So I just unlocked this guy. The Tech Bursts are nice, but I ended up in a lobby with a Fury. Sabotage is a good primer because it's instantaneous, but by the time my Homing Grenades arrived everything was already killed by about seven BEs. I agree with JackCrapper that his powers do work fairly well together. I could even see how he'd be able to be a strong solo character. But there are a lot of other characters with as much or more destructive power who can unleash their powers much faster.

Plus, let's face it: Tech Bursts are weak. Armored enemies laugh them off.
