I enjoyed them so much in DA:O.

In DAII, our unique armors and weapons would sometimes have a codex entry, which was great. But my favorite thing about DA is the depth given to the world, and there were so many items that I would have liked to know more about (even if it was just a few words).

Nothing beat picking up Ser Garlen's sword at Ostagar and reading that thanks to your treachery, "Somewhere on the field there is a bewildered knight fighting with his dinner fork. Pity him."

Details like that are one of my favorite things about this series.  Image IPB

Haha, no, why would they do that? Nobody reads anyway, certainly not RPG fans, the ADHD-addled children that they are.  Besides, why would you want boring old text when you can have more sex scenes instead?

I think we had a thread about this a while back.

I like the descriptions, but I can do without "Golden ring - a ring made out of gold."

@Dhiro: How else would you know what it's made out of? Maybe it's only plated in gold? Or maybe it finds gold - or turns you gold - or turns other things to gold - or doesn't let you say the word gold - or maybe belongs to Thebias Golden a vile Tevinter Mage.

I like the idea of going back to that - I honestly don't read codex entries very much - its too much of a pain to go scroll through a list until I find the one I'm looking for.

Whereas if it was just in the description with all the stats, I would always read it. So it really seems like the way for them to go so that more people see the work they put into writing them. Just keep them short and sweet.

@OP, I agree. But I would also like the item descriptions to be more on the level of NWN/NWN2, not DAO (and especially not DAO:A). I found the descriptions in DAO were sparse and got progressively more sparse in DAO:A. The example I keep going back to is the Toque of the Oblivious' description: "This cowl protects a mage's ears from cold winds. It is also an extraordinarily powerful magical artifact." I mean, that's basically a parody of an item description, not an actual description. I don't want to be a stick in the mud about it because it's supposed to be funny, but I'd expect that sort of thing to be more fitting for a parody of an rpg, not a serious game.

Some people like reading codex's, but after playing the game several times it gets boring and annoying to have the "Codex Updated" pop up so often. I would rather have simple explanations given either on the spot, or put in some part of the journal where you could read them if you want, and ignore them if you're not interested.

I would actually like to see item descriptions return. It was always interesting to find out why something was called what it was, and added more depth to DA!

I think that is the DA universe not taking itself overly seriously. Which is something I actually enjoy about the universe.

Please bring them back. DA2 lost some spirit because it was lacking that aspect.

I had always assumed RPG fans would be likely to read more, what with the great focus on lore and history in contemporary RPG's.

I'm waiting for a Bioware dude to tell us that is part of the word budget. If we get a description of gold rings, we will lose 3 conversations with our love interest. Thats the only reason you only had 2 conversations with Lilly the albino exotic tree elf romance and the reason she wears underwear while bathing, we had to write descriptions for jewelery!

Everyone blame Brushyourteeth. You jewelry lovers ruined romances.

Yes please. It was fun to read how that axe was used by one of dalish generals who leaped to his death from a cliff when dales were defeated in exalted march.

I loved the item descriptions, but I understand it's a pretty niche taste for most people, and that writing a little blurb for each damn item is probably a nightmare for the writers.

I'm okay with writers just having some items with descriptions, the ones they find come easily to them and deserve to be there.

I'd like this. But they propably won't as most people didn't read them. So what's the point?

But at this logic, the codex would be useless too. I support bringing them back, reading about Mass Effect guns was good for example.

How do you know that?

I don't think "please consider" is the right way to phrase this.

Creatively written item lore is mandatory in a RPG!

Item descriptions added a lot to the depth of the world, as well as adding a lot of character to the game. However, I don't want each item description to update the codex. The codex in DA:O was clogged up with too much information on everything and anything. I only want to see item descriptions in the inventory, underneath the name of each corresponding item. But I would very much like to see them make a big comeback nonetheless.
