Edit: I would like other characters more, like Mordin or Thane, but Miranda makes the most sense story wise.

Her character doesnt make any sense story wise. The Illusive Man moves his station so the fact that she was there is meaningless. And Edi have all the information she has about Cerberus in her data banks,if not more.

Haha...I think the codex lied to us all. If you'll notice in ME2 the station has that big ol sun behind it well when we get there in ME3 it still has that big ol sun behind it. As far as I'm aware ME2 spans about 1 year or so, ME3 is 6 months later, so in all that time TIM hasn't moved his station once.

As far as Miranda not making sense, how about when you're on Cronos and see all those videos of Project Lazarus, man she could of put a lot things into perspective...just saying.

If more interesting powers were given to Samara, I would choose her. But in ME2 she was pretty one dimensional and useless on anything hardcore and above (which is what I usually played on).

You're asking me to choose between Miranda, Samara, Grunt, Kasumi and Zaeed ( not to mention Thane, Mordin and Legion who all die in ME3 ), that's so not fare.

Fine, I choose Miranda. She would fit in more organically with ME3's plot then the rest of Me2's sqad mates, as a matter of fact when I was playing ME3 I could not shake that feeling that Miranda should have had more of a role with the Cerebus storyline.

From the story importance point of view - Miranda (and from some camera angles too :) )
Gameplay wise - we lack Krogan Companion so Grunt probably as Wrex it too big of a shot to play rank and file.

Especially seeing that Grunt has literally no reason to join Shepard if he survives (assuming you saved the rachni queen).

Kasumi with her silly dummy spit.

Samara...she knows she would be of most benefit being a part of taking the fight straight to the Reapers.

Gah, this is difficult.

If he weren't in the state he's in during ME3 - then Thane.
I know he's not really plot essential, but he was a favourite of mine and favourite LI.
There's also Legion.
If he had lived after Rannoch then I could have easily see him joining your squad again.

I find myself missing Zaeed and Kasumi too, but they're not "important", and I can't help but feel they'd be out of place amongst your ME3 crew...

I would say Mordin too but he was preoccupied throughout the game.

Hmm, Zaeed stands in the Citadel on his own. Guess the guy's just lazy.
Miranda would've been a good, interesting member to have back. I can't help but think an opportunity was wasted with her, even if she was only to be temporary.

Probably Grunt. I forget why he said he couldn't join you, but if I recall, it was a rather lame reason.

My top three in order would be Jack, Miranda, and Grunt.

There was no reason. He was recovering in a hospital (via Datapad iOS app), then disappeared afterward. No word or anything.

Miranda cause she always gived me the feeling of being second in command when she was on the Normandy.

Please not Miranda, although her model and VA is awesome. I can't have TWO galactic bimbos on my damn ship.

Maybe Kasumi? Or Zaeed, his character and Kasumi only make any sense to be in ME3. Since they both are practically "free to do anything" and have nothing serious on their plate. Grunt is doing service for his species. Jack would be pretty cool too. Wouldn't use her though. Samara makes some sense too.

Zaeed and Kasumi have the weakest reasons. What is their reason? They don't want to join you. That's it.
Kasumi says she *would* come back, but only if Jacob was on your crew. Nothing else.

...Yeah.

Aside from that, Grunt and Samara probably have the weakest reasons, imo.

Miranda of course.
Even if she has to search her sister, the best place where she can find informations is the Normandy (access to the Alliance and SB network, and EDI).
She's one of the best squadmate in combat, a competent XO, and could be a real asset against Cerberus.
And even if the Alliance don't like it, after the coup they are not in position to tell Shepard who he should trust and who he should accept on the Normandy.

Honestly, they weren't really in a position to do that ever since he became a Spectre. You can even tell Admiral whats-his-face that to um, his face, in ME1. Ashley as well, when she voices objections to aliens on the ship. In the same vein, Hackett's sidequests in ME1 and the Arrival mission in ME2 are requests as opposed to orders.
