Edited OP: Who has the weakest reason for not joining up?

Miranda of course.
Even if she has to search her sister, the best place where she can find informations is the Normandy (access to the Alliance and SB network, and EDI).
She's one of the best squadmate in combat, a competent XO, and could be a real asset against Cerberus.
And even if the Alliance don't like it, after the coup they are not in position to tell Shepard who he should trust and who he should accept on the Normandy.

Yeah. Still to this day it boggles my mind how Shepard doesn't even offer assistance, he just sort of lets Miranda do her own thing, even though her thing would be vastly easier with Shepard and the Shadow Broker. Chased by assassins? Normandy is the safest ship in the galaxy. Oriana? The Shadow Broker could fine her as soon as you gave the request.

Please not Miranda, although her model and VA is awesome. I can't have TWO galactic bimbos on my damn ship.

How exactly is Miranda a bimbo? I mean, aside for the fact that she isn't.

Miranda Lawson.

For a few simple reasons:

- She was (together with Thane) a "poster character" for ME2. Why was she dropped for ME3?

- Also she's way too important to the whole story in general to be left out. (brought Shepard back from the dead)

So overall she's close second in the ME universe after Liara T'soni (in my opinion) in regards to influence on Shepard's story.

Even the likes of Garrus and Tali are just additions since they were just companions along the way, not people who "forged" his way for/with him on occasion like T'soni and Lawson.

Why she isn't a permanent squadmate in ME3 is beyond me.

I can't imagine there were many people who imported a game without Miranda surviving either.

Why she(along with quite a few others) doesn't at least join you on the Normandy is beyond me...even if she doesn't go on missions, just a few lines commenting on situations would have been an improvement

All of the ME2 squadmates who have **** reasons for not joining you should at least have been on the ship...except Zaeed, I know he is busy standing next to that container for the entire game

Who would it be? By ME2 character, I mean squad members from ME2, obviously. Tali and Garrus do not count, as they were not introduced in ME2.

My pick would be Miranda, but everybody knows that.

Edit: Of the ME2 cast, who has the weakest reason for not joining Shepard?

If I only could exchange Vega, Kaidan, EDIsexmachine for Zaeed, Thane, Samara, Jack, Kasumi, I would be happy...

Thane, Grunt, or Jack. In that order. I never saw a good reason for Thane to leave Shep, especially a romanced femShep. He would have been by her side, helpin her deal with the fact she just killed 300,000 Batarians. I could see Grunt going to spend time with his own people. Jack unromanced or not probably would have stayed by Shep's side. Shep is the only person she legit trusts.

I see them more on the same level (unsurprisingly ;)), but those two are indeed the most important and Miranda should've had a bigger role in Shepard's story in ME3. And a bigger role in the Cerberus story arc. Oh, her involvement would have made it more likely that there would've actually been a Cerberus story arc instead of a collection of missions where Cerberus appeared randomly whenever the ME3 team thought it would be interesting to fight humanoid enemies for a change.

Even the likes of Garrus and Tali are just additions since they were just companions along the way, not people who "forged" his way for/with him on occasion like T'soni and Lawson.

I think the idea was to give her a parallel-running story arc. That would've worked for me, if that story arc had been written well and showcased Miranda's awesomeness and competence and pragmatism instead of just her emotional vulnerability, and if there was an option to recruit her late in the game. The most unbelievable storytelling crime was to keep her away from Cerberus HQ. That's where her story arc should've ended. That's where her survival or death should've been decided, and that's where her future post-ME3 should've been decided, with or without Shepard. I still can't quite believe they cut her out of that.

Miranda is the best pony. I want her in a major role in one of these DLC. She used to be one of the Illusive Man's top officers - even if it was only the "legitimate" side of Cerberus, she certainly knows something about Cerberus, knows people in Cerberus, there is a story there somewhere!

BEST quote! :D

I think it's really funny how people judge Miranda based on her character model and the Director of Photography's choice of where to place the camera. Her character, judged on her personality, attitude, morality, and disposition combined with her central placement in the drama of ME2 and Cerberus makes her easily one of the most interesting characters in the whole game, whether you like her or not. (and I obviously like her).

At least Miranda got a better reason that Kasumi, who whines at you about the Suicide Mission and basically says she's too much of a lazy bum to help you out.

But my choices would be Thane, Zaeed or Miranda.

edit: Jack would be fun too.

I think more people judge her based on the Minuteman Station conversation in ME2 because she doesn't instantly worship at your feet. Needless to say, I liked her from that moment on.

Too bad ME3 doesn't do her justice. It's incomprehensible how she was sidelined. The amount of wasted potential boggles the mind.

Jack. Hands down.

Endgame would've been a great place for her to show up.

Some time ago I asked Patrick Weekes what if Jack was an MP character - for giggles - he said she'd definitely be an N7 Fury. Biotically explode all of the things.

In ME2 I actually didn't like her at first. She goes rogue and shoots that guy in the head, she's not a huge fan of the Illusive Man's plan to bring you on board, she doesn't trust you. I was all, "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? I'M COMMANDER SHEPARD!" and I said a lot of harsher, more renegade things to her early on. She changed my mind about her through the story and that's why I love her.

Seriously. She was the "second in command" at Cerberus, even if it was in name only, there is a story there. There is character development there. There is SO MUCH GOOD STUFF THERE, why rehash the sister/dad story? I mean, it wasn't *terrible*, but her character has a lot more going on based on her personality and her relationship to Cerberus and the Illusive man...

I would say Miranda, except I saved Kaidan too :-(

Though, I suppose if we can have two Engineers we can have two Sentinels.

I think Miranda would be a good choice, especially if Ashely is also onboard.. I think it would add a little drama to the ship.

Miranda.

Mainly because I'm still dumbfounded that she wasn't even a temporary crew member.

And if you romanced her... way to not ask Liara to help Miranda out. I mean, c'mon Shep. You're flying all the way across the freakin' galaxy to find some doodad that a random Volus is talking about to someone else -- you aren't even a part of that conversation!! -- and you can't spare some time to help Miranda? Bro. She lost her job with Cerberus because she believed in you!

Plus she was arguably the best teammate from a gameplay standpoint as well in ME2.

Probably Grunt. I forget why he said he couldn't join you, but if I recall, it was a rather lame reason.

There was no reason. He was recovering in a hospital (via Datapad iOS app), then disappeared afterward. No word or anything.

I assumed Grunt was helping out on Palaven and running the new Arlakh Company.  He is a war asset after all.
