My choice would be Legion or Grunt.

Legion had a refreshingly logical outlook in regards to everything. Even when the quarians were freaking out and flipping a poop over there being a geth on board, he kept his cool and provided an impartiality that would have made a vulcan so furious with jealousy that they'd pretty much give up their vows for logical thinking then and there. Plus, there was a certain... innocence to him. He was unaffected by hate, or avarice, or vanity. I loved the little guy.

Grunt was bestial but in a very interesting way. For a krogan, he was almost an intellectual beast, almost like Wrex in that regard. He's kind of their Nietzche, and whilst rarely a character I agree with, I like having him around as a counterbalance. Plus, he really knows how to wield a shotgun and I respect that. And hey, the game has a shortage of krogan squaddies, as has been pointed out.

Miranda or Zaeed

Miranda had the most story potential to continue on into Mass Effect 3 as a squamember. Also she would fill the sentinel spot for people who didn't have Kaidan.

Zaeed, because he was just a blast to have around in Mass Effect 2, I would've loved to just have him on one more mission as a temp just to give him more screen time.

Normally, I would say Miranda, but the simple fact that I find the issue with Shepard and Miranda (who are lovers of course) is that having them being separated by the war, but having them longing for the other...

Oh screw it. Miranda.

Hmm. Legion/Mordin are personal favorites of mine but have clear "can't be in the squad any more" moments thanks to the plot. Maybe Jack for a non-Liara biotic (and because her being a teacher only a few months after being a rage-filled murderer doesn't really make sense to me, and even less sense if your Shepard wasn't nice to her).

Personally, my bigger wish is that they had made Miranda the new Shadow Broker instead of Liara though, incorporating that into ME2/DLC.

Well I'd want another biotic, so I'd go with Jack.

Not such a big fan of the ME2 squad (with a few exceptions: Mordin, Thane, Samara and Zaeed... and Garrus and Tali obviously). If I could pick one then I'd take Zaeed. It would be nice to know more about the old veteran.

Thane was dying: that had been made pretty clear in ME2 (that's why I don't get why did they even bother making him a LI... one of the lamest features of ME2: making the Normandy into a love-boat, soap opera gig), so he's obviously a no go.

Mordin has a more important role in ME3.

Samara somehow doesn't fit the Alliance Normandy crew for me, no matter how much I like her.

But Zaeed... I would very much welcome the old pirate bastard on my ship. He'd have a nice place in the docking bay and in the lounge.

Who would it be? By ME2 character, I mean squad members from ME2, obviously. Tali and Garrus do not count, as they were not introduced in ME2.

My pick would be Miranda, but everybody knows that.

Edit: Of the ME2 cast, who has the weakest reason for not joining Shepard?

In my playthroughs were I romanced Miranda. I'd want her.

In my other probably Legion. I mean. C'mon it's a Geth that dances and talks **** bout Reapers. Plus can you imagine the squad banter when James starts acting all Bad Ass and Legion just trashes that kid. Legion is so awesome. Think about rolling up on Cerberus with Legion and Garrus on your six. Just snipin' fools and being all BAMF and stuff.

y u kill Legion bioware? y u no like legion? Why? Why? Why!!!

Miranda easily... and I think her story is easiest to merge onto the Normandy really.

I would actually have loved for many of the ME2 characters to have stayed, though at least Jack had a fairly good reason why she couldn't. It made sense to me. I still wish they had actually rewarded palyers of all three games with a squad comprised of survivors of the three games with maybe EDI and James put there to at least have a full time squad if things went really really bad in ME2. But seriously, not actually having the suicide mission and who survived mean anything was so disappointing. Why not actually have consequences from that have a deep impact on 3?

I think Mass Effect 3 was geared to new players and getting new people interested in the series. The multiplayer, how it's more of a shooter than RPG, ME2 characters almost a non factor, it all adds up to ME3 being more catered to the masses than it's respected predecessor's were. Just a shame really. Like you said. They should have rewarded players who played all games, especially those who survived the suicide mission.

Jack would be my first choice. Miranda would be my second choice. Samara would be my third.

While it doesn't personally bother me, I agree with the above.

Kasumi or Zaeed would probably have been my first choices.

Grunt. Samara, or a compromise of Thanes son just to add a newish character.

Seriously though, Grunt would utterly replace Vega on my Ship. ME3 lacks a Krogan Squadmate.
