everyone's first reaction seems to be "wait, only ONE of the DA:O companions is returning?" but perhaps (and I admit, I really, really hope...) we've misunderstood this and it's actually meant as

"Encounter five all-new party members and an old favourite NON-PARTY MEMBER from Dragon Age: Origins can now join you in addition to your existing companions"

wishful thinking? maybe. but BioWare put a lot of effort into these characters, and most of the epilogues leave their fates rather open. yes, there's some closure, maybe so and so goes off to do such and such, but very few of them have that ring of finality to them so it wouldn't be too hard to write them into future adventures

and besides, if we really are importing not just our characters but the choices we made as them, then there's some pretty strong potential ties which would be hard to ignore

While I'm sure it would be thrilling, having multiple companions that we would need to write up in their entirety only to allow you to have ONE of them would be a massive waste of resources. Considering that the budget for an expansion is already pretty small, it's not really feasible.

Sorry, just wearing my Expectations Management cap at the moment.
