I still think the companion coming back is Dog, Although I did have a thought when you end the game as a female noble married to Allistair, at the end it says he left for a while but of course came back to your side, maybe this is the quest they were talking about when he left. He is after all a grey warden not just the king and he still thinks that being part of the grey wardens is more important than being King. Maybe he is the returning character and the trailer is trying to through a curve ball to ensure we do not think of this.
a different take on "an old favourite"

I thought Oghren was seen in the trailer as a party member? Anyway, I am sure some characters will make cameo's (Alistair, romance NPC other than Morrigan) but this story is focused on building up towards the future of the franchise, and I am sure Bioware is not ready to wrap up a lot of stuff as of yet.

That was a split of a second with a red-headed dwarven warrior wearing a two-handed battle axe.screwoffreg wrote...

Personally i'd love to see Flemeth in a new shell coming since (spoiler)we technically didnt destroy her soul
ul (/Spoiler), someone have to have a sharp tounge in the party
But my dibs are on Alistair, who during a late dinner with the arl of denerim goes to for a drink at the gnawed noble, for thus in secrecy visiting the grey warden HQs, Because killing darkspawn is more fun than ruling countries.
I was actually thinking about how flemeth would be returning to the story I can't wait to see what they do with her.
As for the returning favorite what if it was yourself?!(If you're the one that sacrificed yourself killing the AD).. someone said this about win in another topic that made me jump for joy. Something about you dieing and Wynne sacrificing herself using the power of the spirit she has within her to bring you back! I personally never liked Wynne so I am all for that option.

I will be waiting for spoilers before getting the expansion. Most of my characters ended with Zev as the love interest. You can go anywhere in that relationship it is very openended same with Leil. The idea of adventuring without him is distasteful to me. I would be perfectly content to let the game end with DA:O just to carry on the illusion that my PC's live happily ever after adventuring with their elven assassin.

Very likely it would be easiest for them to have our old companions be *in* this, but more as NPCs you go an chat with, or visit in cut scenes or whatnot rather than having to worry about who had relationships with who and have them be integral parts of our grouping mechanism perhaps? Or maybe these new companions are more expendable and wont carry on the journey, kind of like there was always that ONE new guy in the old star trek episodes who went on missions...you all knew who wasnt coming back
I'd love it if it was Duncan personally. i can imagine it being Sandal as well, because come on, he is just there to be your constant dose of simple fun
Ever since Duncan gave me a talking to for trying to pickpocket him and then told me not to get caught, I've just loved him
Hubby says he is old enough to be my father, but sometimes a lamppost is just a lamppost
