As someone who has never liked the "romances" in any of Bioware's games, I'd like the game to offer some reward to player characters who don't romance anyone throughout the game. It can be purely cosmetic, like a trophy/achievement, or it can affect the actual game. For example, at one point the Big Bad kidnaps your LI, but if you don't have one, then no kidnapping occurs.  Or some third party gives you a useful item for not hooking up with anyone. Just some way the game acknowledges that you didn't romance anyone and rewards you for it.

(Oh, and don't even think about making sarcastic "Forever Alone" responses. Not only is that meme getting old, but it's hypocrisy of the highest order if you lust after fictional characters so much.)

Um, sure. An achievement for remaining chaste sounds fine.

I'm not sure why someone would give you an item just because you haven't hooked up, unless it's like a magical vibrator or something.

I don't necessarily need a reward, but scenes or a quest that happen only if you're not in a romance would be cool. Or getting a conversation and insight into a certain character only if you don't romance them...because they wouldn't share that info, or let the player character see them in that light, if they were being romanced. That sort of thing would be better than an achievement or item for me.

rewards for skipping content.. uh the explorer and completionist in me is caught in a paradox.

Could be interesting and if it was a viable content alternative probably something that I'd take advantage of a lot, then you can annoy people by friendzoning them.

@OP, How about a free cat as a pet? Or maybe the opportunity to earn another cat each time you decline a romantic opportunity?

Can you keep some of the cats in your coat and throw them at people at the most irrelavant times?

If so count me in.

Replace the cats with puppies and we have a deal.

There's usually extra content for those who have engaged in a romance. I understand it's more efficient to cut something if there's little need for it in a game, but it would be nice if there was something productive a solo player. A drinking buddy at the very least would be great.

For now I will be happy with space hamster.

If you don't want to do romance, fine by me. I don't get why you should need a reward for it though.

Don't worry, people like grumpy old men. Just...don't yell "get off mah lawn" too much, it's the old days after all so nobody will get the reference.

Because some people find them cheesy and shallow, or just want to roleplay a chaste hero for whatever reason.

Bioware makes some pretty compelling romances. I think it would be an achievement to avoid all of them in a play-through.

I know I would have a really hard time saying no.

Guess it just depends on your viewpoint I only see the romances as content, so an alternative path would be just as viable to me as going for a romance, it doesn't stop you from exhausting the frienship content with the people and the romances themselves just tend to add a fairly cheesy scene and be done with it.

Not the best example, but do you remember ME2?  Even at, say, endgame, when you've done a character's LM, they usually don't have anything to say.  Unless you romance them, where you are rewarded with extra scenes for that character.

Take Garrus, for example.  He'll start going on about how he fought with this female turian and reach vs flexibility and so on.  Then, you get two options, 'romance' and 'sure, I wouldn't mind beating you like you owed me money'.  If you choose the latter, Garrus declines.  If Garrus had accepted, there would be additional, if a bit less, content available. :)

I like cheese on my pizza. Heck, even in real life I've seen that it can get pretty cheesy. Video games do real life justice in that regard, or at least...Bioware does.

Stuff like Aveline coming to talk to you if you have no LI is good, and could perhaps be expanded on. That's a moment when it makes sense that someone comes for a heart to heart, even if you don't have an LI.

But I don't think creating content and deliberately excluding characters with romances in the name of some weird sense of fairness really makes much sense.

Why do you need a reward for romances? Why can't you just click a tab that says - "We're romancing now."

Why do you need cut scenes at all? You don't - they add nothing to the main storyline - the add to a fetishistic "majority" that likes virtual sex partners (even calling them romances at all shows a lack of knowledge about real romance - or love).

Yet - I'd never suggest someone shouldn't get them (nor do I entirely refrain from them).

However, I absolutely agree with Wynne. Every game should punish you for being such a selfish pratt and make you choose between your love interest and your "very important world altering goals".

Even mundane jobs in the real world can cause a schism like this - and it makes for great storytelling - but again, the romances are more about feel good marketing behavior than any of that high brow literary nonsense.

Like I wouldn't want Bioware to remove their totally unnecissary fetish-lust fests from their games - I think it would be really cool if the focused mission oriented PC could have something extra to do.

Wouldn't the reward be denying yourself the cheesy and shallow content?

I will never, ever understand the appeal of achievements.

How can a little icon called something like: "No hugging, no kissing: Achievement for not romancing anyone during a playthrough!" possibly make someone happy is beyond me.

Minor in-game consequences for not romancing anyone I can understand more (to add variety), although I don't see why it should be a reward. It's not a merit.

Exactly my thought process. I mean damn, why would anyone want a benefit/acknowledgement for purposefully AVOIDING content?

I can understand some, like avoiding killing a target or being stealthy, but avoiding a romance?

Thats just odd.
