ME1 still has stuff that I'm just discovering dozens of playthroughs later. AMAZING music on Virmire.

I rag on ME1 a lot, mainly because I feel like everyone here holds it up to be much better then it actually is because they're going the classic "good old days" thing because they don't like ME3.

But I give credit where it's due. This my... 25th playthrough of ME1? Made a fresh engineer character. Anyway, I'm on Virmire. Now I always just run through the direct entrace, and always assumed that the Salarian that says "Hello? Is someone out there?" when you run across a catwalk over a detainment room. I've always assumed that was the crazy one. Turns out, I've been running right past a door all this time. I met a non-indoctrinated Salarian. I freed him.

But when I turned to the other Salarians and said to put them out of their misery... Things. Got. Creepy. While shooting them in the cutscene, this music that I've never heard before started playing. The creepiest, most disturbing music I've ever heard in the entire trilogy. If indoctrination was music, that would be it. And it never ended. Even now as I meet that Asari who opens the room to the beacon, it's still playing. Made the whole conversation describing indoctrination much more uncomfortable then usual. I felt... Fear, talking about indoctrination to that music. Also made the conversation with the crazy Salarian much creepier and unsettling too.

The interesting thing is, the outside music has changed too. I went back out of the facility to hit the other entrance for extra EXP, and the music outside is the music that plays when making starting a new game, when making a new character or starting as an already-made one. And now that I'm back inside, I can tell that the creepy music is in fact a majorly remixed disturbing version  of that theme.

I hope this music keeps playing after talking to Sovereign (I stopped to type this thread once I got to the beacon room), because it makes this places atmosphere much thicker then it's ever been. This feels less like a war segment now and more like a scary segment from a Lovecraft story, all because of that theme.

What the? I can't even find it on Youtube. Putting "Vimire theme" just brings up results of the music I've always heard that played before I killed those Salarians.

Oh well, you can hear it here after the same point that triggered it for me.-

Are you sure you didn't suffer a stroke or something well playing?

Last time i did a trilogy playthrough (i play on PC) i tried going more to uncharted worlds i didn't have quest log entries for in ME1. At some point i landed on a planet full of Pyjaks that you could kill.
There is also a green planet somewhere that is full of deer-looking creatures.

And yeah Virmire is a great mission with great music. I also love how, depending on your choices, you end up fighting Saren at the tower instead of fighting him at the bombing-site. I think the music changes here too :-)

So you've played ME 1 25(!) times and you've always run past that salarian?

No wonder people do not get ME 3's ending, they simply do not explore games enough. I think ME 3's ending is phenomenal in the way that it makes the players (some at least) search for clues in future playthroughs. And there are plenty of them.

Anyway, I'm glad you found it and your description of the music was interesting to read. Thanks.

I've already heard that in the ME3 dream sequence, turn off the music every time.

So just how many people knew about this Virmire second theme? Is this common knowledge, or is this actually something other people generally don't know about?

Well that's disappointing, the music went back to the old boring theme after talking to Sovereign.

Sleep well knowing you are the cancer that allowed this trash for a third game.

Right, I should take it to the board where 5 people a month visit at best. And ME1 is NEVER talked about here. Oh no sir, people never ever mention ME1 around here. I'm a terrible person for being off topic and talking about anything but ME3, I should drown myself in my toilet.[/sarcams]

In short, CronoDragoon... No.

You aren't a terrible person for it, but you admit yourself you're off-topic, so why get snarky?

And most threads I see about ME1 are making comparisons to ME3, which is relevant.

So last night I got to matriarch Benezia and died because 2 geth snipped me at once. No problem I thought, I'll just hit resume. The game restarted me at the beginning of the mission before you get into the Mako. I raged quit, I mean wtf? I just wasted an hour of my life.

This whole interior of the base is confusing because its various levels tie together at different places. Ironically, it reminded me of the old Zelda games on NES where often times you had to back track or take an indirect route to your destination.

Also that music always plays on that part and it's a bug if it continues after that.

However, yes, it's good to see you are finding replay value. I recently did a trio of replays just to see the special missions given to each shepard origin (the batarian slave on the citadel, the call from hanna shepard and the variations in the Tooms mission)

*EDIT* It also took me several play throughs to realize that the 'alarm' choice you are given determines whether or not Kirrahae lives or not.

Virmire is my favorite mission from the entire trilogy hands down. Looked it from the moment the Mako dropped into the river to sad moment when the nuke went off as the Normandy escaped.

Eterna5, you goofed. That happens sometimes, where the game loads the wrong save. Your actual autosave is still a Virmire one, unless you played from that resume and got the Virmire autosave overwritten. Just manually load next time.

djspectre, I doubt it's a bug. The music lasts way longer then the scene, and that Youtube video shows the exact same thing with the music playing all the way until you reach Sovereign.

Aaleel, I hate the part before the Salarian base. It's nothing but filler. It only gets awesome once you arrive at their base.

Also, I finally did it. I let Wrex die to get Wreave for once. If anyone remembers my thread about Wrex a day or 2 ago, you'll know why I feel I should mention that. But man, being an engineer and having the 2 heavy hitters of the party bite the dust on the same mission is going to make things difficult. As of now, Garrus is now the meatiest character... And he's fragile.

I love the Mako and the scenary was just beautiful.  Plus I loved the structure of the mission, cleaning out the AA towers and other defense so that the Normandy could come in and land at base camp.

That's one of the things I dislike about the last two games, you just get chauffeured to literally the back door of these bases sometimes like the Kodiak has optical steath or something, bases had no defenses whatsoever.

Are you talking about the scene where after you free that Salarian that isn't indoctrinated you go too the cell next to his that has like 3 or 4 salarians that are indoctrinated and you have the option to kill them (put them out of their misery I think) or basically let them live (and die in the blast). The music that played in that part isn't supposed to last long and I think you had a glitch

Is this your first time playing ME1? Auto-saving in ME1 is terrible. Make manual saves whenever you clear an area.

Yeah I am playing it right now and realized that the auto save is horrible. But I always save an insane amount anyways so it isn't a huge deal

Garrusfan, got to admit, you're starting to feel like an actual buddy of mine or something on here. Don't know why, we just seem to get along.

Anyway, if it is a glitch, it's an extremely common one. Again, that Youtube video of someone else also had the same thing happen, you can listen and tell for yourself. And honestly, it's an AWESOME glitch. Added to the Virmire part so much that I'm doing that every playthrough from now on.

Interesting, I've done several ME1 playthroughs and I've never heard that music either. All I've ever heard is the typical action music during that segment. I wonder if maybe it's only available for the PC version.
