****** would actually do more damage. Especially if it got in an enemy's eye.

Given the pathetic damage, atleast they can remove the rampup time.

i call it the death machine, not because it reigns down death on the enemy, but because I used it on my geth engineer, and he died like 10 times per game.

And, folks, this is why you should never let R Kelly design guns

Using an N7 destroyer (max damage/rate of fire), I tested how long it takes to kill a Gold brute with a GPSMG vs a Tempest.

Mods: Heat sink and extended mag (both weapons)
Equipment: Stabilization, AP Ammo 1, SMG rail 1, SMG amp 5

These factors held constant, it takes a tempest 13 seconds (1 magazine of 100 rounds) to kill a brute. It takes a GPSMG 17 seconds (200 round magazine + a reload) to do the same. I can upload video if you'd like. There is of course some fluctuation due to the fact that the heat sink has a random element but I think if this was done 100 times, the results would be generally the same.

The only issue here is that you could easily skip out on the Heat sink + Stabilization mod, as they are not necessary (but more necessary on the tempest). You are forcing the GPSMG to fit the mold of the tempest's needs. I already acknowledged that the other guns are stronger, but that there are other, more important factors that play into the gun other than damage.

Instead, you could put on power amp for more grenade damage + warp or incendiary ammo, as you would could put the piercing mod on instead.

You are isolating factors to determine damage output, when what makes this gun overall better isn't singular damage output. Its output has indirect effects that the tempest can't give (i.e. getting a power amp instead of a stabilization, putting on armor piercing instead of heat sink, short to long range accuracy instead of short to mid-range, + a headshot multiplier that allows you to mow through weaker enemies.

lets see you make a video of you killing a brute across hydra without a stablization mod for both guns, skews the results now, doesn't it?

I only use it on Geth classes, Engineer primarily. I can't say I expect it to mow downs mobs, but it does a more-than-satisfactory job for me. On its own with a magazine or heat sink mod it's incrediblty competent at littering enemy spawns with ammo effects, and even with ULM as a sidearm, it has plenty of ammo and lets you lay a consistent stream of damage on targets from across maps.

I'm not saying the damage is great, but I am saying I'm fine where it is; it's an SMG, not a deathmachine.

Needs high level consumables. AP IV + both clip mods turns it into à face melting boss killer. Seriously.

If Bioware changes the color of its projectiles to yellow, it'll become a True ****** Spitter.

Some developer thought it would be a good idea to have a gun that does no damage (or micro damage) have a ramp up time.

That way you are out of cover, exposed for long periods and doing minimal damage.

And they wonder why we laugh at them.

OP: I always thought that. A good boss shield stripper, that's what it should be.
Also, lol@title!

You could put those same mods on almost any other weapon and it will do a better job.

It was my go to sidearm before the ulm fix and a mob sweeper, but after the fix the other smgs are now more appealing.

Since Bioware buffed the gpr the gpsmg is not on par anymore.

THE GETH ****** SPITTER: NEEDS MOAR LUVVIN

I originally used it because of the ULM glitch. Once that was fixed, I used it a couple of times on my Geth Engineer because of his +10% Geth weapon damage bonus. In the end, my Hurricane still did more damage, so I stopped using it altogether.

But the only times I ever really pulled it out were to strip the shields of an Atlas or Banshee from across the map (hard to pee that far with any other smg). Starting at about moderate range, I find the Hurricane still does a better job of that, as well.

I actually did test it on Firebase hydra, using only a 10% stabilization mod.

Shield stripping would be a good function of this gun.  Also, the ramp-up needs to be eliminated.  It's a gun intended to be used on classes that can't be exposed to fire for very long, and thus, having a ramp-up makes it even more useless.  I used this gun for the SMG Mastery banner (I refused to use the Shuriken), and the only way I could use it successfully was on Bronze with a Destroyer.  And it felt underpowered even with that setup.  AP ammo III helped.
