Are you sure?  I haven't watched the endings for a while but if I recall correctly the Citadel blows up in all but the control ending (for some reason) and assumedly falls back to Earth.  I could easily be wrong but I thought you could see the remains of buildings in the background during the breathe scene, though I'm not able to go look for the video of it from where I am.

Before the EC I also assumed re-entry, but the Citadel is shown to be a bit more in tact in the EC. Shep being on the Citadel was confirmed via twitter I believe but I can't remember by who. What you see is bits the Citadel, they certainly look to have the texture of concrete to me but apperantly that's not the case.

Posting this link again-it's "fun" to read the comments regarding it and what people were speculating would happen in ME3. Funny how accurate some were.

This...what...ARE YOU FRACKING SERIOUS?!

"If they had the balls to make it so that you can't win and have to accept the Cycle of Reaper extinctions I would give mad props. Knowing that they'll want to make more games in this franchise however leads me to believe they won't."

""make some people angry" The word you're looking for there is dissapointed. Anger I can deal with, anger is good and immersive. Dissapointed is a whole other beast. That's just gonna drive me away."

"I thought BioWare kind of wrote themselves into a corner with this series, right from the start. They made the oft-repeated mistake of making an enemy so insanely powerful compared to the protagonists, that almost any way of beating them will just look like a complete ass-pull. You can solve this by having the Reapers win, or partially win, or something, but writers almost never do that sort of thing. So my money's on it being some kind of deus ex machina, which is a shame. Hope i'm wrong."

"It genuinely confuses me, this notion that people are invested in the stock, canned things that happen in Mass Effect. Yeah, there's a way I'll be angry about the ending; if I have zero agency in how it plays out. You know, choice and consequence, one of the fundamental pillars of the series?"

"I guess the ending is you die....again. :x"

"Shepard becomes Zerg King"

"Spoiler: It turns out its all a dream."

"An ending in which Shepard had to sacrifice himself would be dumb. Why? If you steal the plot from Dragon Age (unite galaxy against Reapers vs unite Ferelden against Darkspawn) there is no reason to steal the ending, too. My hope: My renegade Shepard can join the Reapers. My paragon Shepard ... well, let that tool sacrifice himself, I don't care."

"I just hope it doesn't end like Lost insofar as making the ending so **** it makes the entire series **** and not worth recommending to anyone who hasn't played it before. Before the last series of Lost I had in the back of my mind that I will buy the whole set on BluRay and watch them all again. After the god awful ending I vowed never to watch the show again, despite the first 2 series being amazing television. I felt the same way about the Matrix trilogy too. Please don't **** it up Bioware, I really love the Mass Effect series so far."

"I bet Shepard dies, or defeats the Reapers in some way that he has to sacrifice his life. Either way, it has been
confirmed that this is his last appearance in the series, so the series is basically over after this game. As for me, I am pissed that the series is over, but these things can't go on forever can they? All I know is that they better end this game in the most epic way possible, or else it will be a letdown of huge effect; Mass Effect."

"Shepard joins the Reapers!!!!"

"Spoiler alert: The ending is...."And it was all a dream! The end""

"dialogue options for " best ending" will have to be bought by microtransactions."

i had enough wtfjusthappend-moments in mass effect 3 ...

i could be ok with a "no more shepard"-scenario ... the problem is, how they assasinated the character (and somehow me as well), not that they did it. the ending was like kal reegar dying from an infection - downright insulting.

"its not what you say, but how you say it."

One of the only two posts by Jessica Merizan I've ever seen on the story forum in the 6 months I've been reading it was a denial she ever meant to say that. She says that is her 'personal canon' or something to that effect.

That's not what she said.

She denied ever saying that synthesis was canon (she was responding to the thread title, not the actual statements that were attributed to her). And it won't be canon (that Shepard picked the synthesis ending)—it'll just happen anyway, regardless of what your Shepard chose.

This is what she said:

"Just noticed this thread.

I never said that, nor is it true. I'm not sure who this person's brother is, but he is mistaken.

Locking this down as it is unfortunately 20 pages based on complete fiction and nothing I've ever said. Perhaps this person was confusing me stating that Synthesis is MY canon ending (I have a few saved games, but my main Shep chose Synthesis).

Anyway guys, sorry for the scare or disappointment or whatever you feel about this, but it's untrue.

Lock."

(My emphasis)

So I don't think I completely misrepresented her post.

Why do you hate Shakespear?

Really tho, I see what you mean, no clear cut scenerio does make the writers seem, well... insane. But then war is insanity... some may even think it's controlled..heheh

war and writing about it, are two different things.

stories have to be clear cut - otherwhise, its just random stuff thrown together. ... literary cacophony

I have a very, very hard time believing bioware when it says that no one foresaw how people would react to the endings. When the first leaks were happening a month or two before release, from a gametester, the one thing he said people would be mad the most about was the ending. Of course they knew. But they gambled on it anyways.

Edit: Although I'll conceede that no one really saw how unified the hatred would become.

So the ending is interesting ... high way pile ups are also interesting, so what?

If I want philosophy I'll read Hume, if I want to know about human condition and the impossibility of uncompromising triumph I'll watch the news ... I didn't buy ME3 to be interested, I came to be entertained and get an emotionally fulfilling climax.

My forecast is the the Mass Effect community because of the ME3 ending(s) will be at war with itself and Bioware for years to come. It will only get worse with the release of ME4.

Actually, the ending hatred was a rare moment of (on the surface) unity among the BSN. This community has been at war ever since the ME1 romance options were announced, I bet.
