I'm quite tired of it all (this is the opposite of a hate topic)

To begin, I would like to offer my thanks to BioWare for creating a game of this caliber.  I have enjoyed every minute of my play time thus far, and look forward to all that is to come, whenever that may be.

In regards to the banter about sugary goodness in the now defunct thread on the RtO delay:  Not only did it help stimulate the economy (as I had to go purchase some goodies yesterday after all the brainwashing), it also provided a great break in the incessant droning of those colicky persons in our midst.

On the topic of our need to be informed as to why, my non-official, totally brown reasoning as to the cause of this delay is: Once you picked up the King’s armor, Morrigan was forced to only wear that…even in all the cut scenes.  Now you have a reason…and you thought you were chaffed by the delay.

I'm pleased that someone has started thread with this subject in mind. I think with the complete overreaction, flaming and general pathetic behaviour on the forums since the delay has been disgraceful and, at least to me, proof that the 18 certificate slapped on this game has done nothing to prevent the kiddies getting through. Well, from the behaviour I assume they were kiddies anyway due to the complete lack of maturity on any level. Shame on them...

I'm surprised that "adults" are overreacting as much as they have on the forum. I hope there are repercussions for their behavior, they are ruining the forum for a lot of us.

I absolutely agree with the thread maker, how can a game get better if almost everyone in this whole forum rants about the work of other´s, or question other´s authority, personal lives or things that should not be questioned because they are obvious.

Why should people question the obvious and need reasons, you can come up with several reasons of why the DLC was delayed and why the Mods haven´t spoken anything about it.

The thing is, people question everything and don´t try to find the answers for themselves and fail to show empathy for others.

I try to show empathy without questioning why the DLC was delayed, because I know Bioware is doing their job and we shouldn´t question their professionalism because we aren´t managing, creating and improving or anything else, We are just here in order to provide with suggestions and constructive criticism and have a friendly chat.

I for one, hope things change from now on, and people start thinking more before they react.

i would just like to respond to those people who imply that this topic was created to "rant about ranters", "whine about whiners", or "hate about haters". this topic was created so perhaps "haters" could reconsider how they go about conducting them selves. And it was created to thank the developers and BOFPs for the great game and to congrtulate them on their patience in regards to the astounding amount of unnecessary crap they are forced to put up with.

I really appreciate not only the game (it's a great game, absolutely amazing) but also the work that moderators and official bioware people do on this forum.
I'm tired of seeing people complaining over things like delays minor bugs, things not being balanced correctly etc. etc. I'm tired of people giving the Bioware official forum people (hence forth known as BOFPs) a hard time when really (i'm guessing) the BOFPs have absolutely nothing to do with delays, bugs etc. Those people should google constructive criticism.
People should recognize the hard work that BOFPs put in to keep the forums updated about happenings etc, bioware could employ less people, save money and therefore make a better bottom line (at least in the short run) by not employing these people. But instead bioware is investing in your loyalty. With this in mind do you really think that bioware is slapping you in the face or stealing your wallet everytime there is a "high" DLC price?
When i read these forums many of the times i can't help but be reminded of a bunch of children always wanting something just a tiny bit better. "why is the price 7.50? I want it to be 6.50. i want i want i want". i would imagine if it was 6.50 other people or probably even the same people would say the same. Even some of the free items people are complaining about.
All i'm saying is that people should really recognize what a good product dragon age is. People should try to name another game in the past 8 or so years that has come any where near it's greatness. In my opinion people would be hard pressed to name more than 2, if that. Furthermore, dragon age has already recieved 2.5 patches (i don't really count that 1.1b thing as a full patch haha) and it has a great group of people keeping the community updated and dealing with people who are acting no better than 5 year olds. On top of all this an expansion is already announced and a date set.
I could ask no more from a company: great game, great support, continuous new content that i'm interested in.
Bioware, both programmers and BOFPs, keep up the great work!

PS: just so you know although i don't post often i do read the forums frequently. Furthermore, for those of you who specifically complain about technical problems, i've had some too (this one where effects of my and npc abilities and attacks don't actually register with the game until many seconds afterwards during larger battles, any help would be appreciated haha, comp meets recommended specs). butn nonetheless these technical problems of the game are greatly dwarfed and overshadowed by the pure spectacle that is Dragon Age: Origins.

I agree completely. This is the best game I've played in ages (although Divinity2 is pretty great, too). The story is compelling, the quests are varied, and it's astonishingly replayable. The quickness of the download content release is really quite amazing given how new the game is. There's already two addons and people are complaing because the third is going to be a little late? Or because they don't get a full rundown on what the problem is? Why should they?

They're releasing an expansion less than six months after the game came out, and are people thrilled and happy? No. It's just a whirlwind of baseless panic, nashing of teeth, and complaints. If I were the folks at Bioware, I'd be backing away from all this and just working on the game. Who needs the grief and insults?

I agree with Randy and all of you who have commented (constructively!) on the amount of whinging that goes on whenever Bioware doesn't do exactly what the fans want (constant release of new DLC, free or very low pricing or whatever.)  I'm particularly amused because often the folks complaining so loudly are also ones who appear to spend a great deal of time talking about how they don't like certain game characters because they seem to whine all the time.  Hmmmm.....

With that said, I agree that constructive criticism is important and can make a difference. And listening to constructive crit is something that I've always found Bioware to do relatively well. I've been playing Bioware games for years.  I really enjoy and look forward to playing them. Sure there are things I'd have liked done differentlyand I've certainly reported bugs or made comments. But I also try to take the imperfections with a grain of salt. Usually a patch comes out for the worst bugs and Bioware seems to take its fans thoughts seriously.  I've noticed for years how frequently Bioware's staff interact with their fans -- certainly more than most gaming companies - and how much effort they put into researching ideas and making a good game.  For example, I remember Dave G. going out on fan sites like Lady Shayna's now closed (sob!) Ladies of Neverwinter site asking for input on what we thought made F/F friendships different from M/F or M/M friendships (not romances, friendships) because he wanted to try and capture some if this more effectively in DragonAge.   The fact that I've seen several of the writers/developers/producers on-line in a variety of forums over the years doing this kind of thing has always been a warm fuzzy for me and goes a long way in facilitating feelings of loyalty to the company and their products.

Thanks for starting this topic Randy!  I'm looking forward to Return to Ostagar whenever it's released and to DA: Awakening!  Can't wait to play. Posted Image

While this is a very good game and I am sure bioware is tickled pink at it's success.. complaints will still come and it's a valid exchange between the game makers and their fans. Some will post immature rants, other's valid criticism. If you don't like it then don't read them.. skip over it and move on.

RTO's thread derailed several times and got big fast. There should have been two threads honestly. One for the announcements and another to discuss it.. The one for the announcement on the topic should be locked so only a few can post to it. THAT way there people that don't want to look at the complaints or discuss it don't have to.

Must say, I almost prefer the WoW Damage Dealing forums to this mess. There's barely any actual discussion going on. Mostly complaints about the game from people who expecting something else/too much/are impossible to please and retaliation from fans of the game.

Seems like everyone around here wants to play moderator and tell everyone else what they can and can't post about, without actually saying anything interesting themselves.

What could have been a reasonable argument is now forever ruined by stupid display of poor taste in games.

remember fallout 3 expansion pack the pitt ?

I would rather have rto delayed then pay for something a corrupted file that I would have to delete two to three times and re-download because the developer wanted to get it out on time.

We really appreciate good feedback and often use the constructive criticisism to improve future products. Its great to read how many of you love the game and it makes my day every time I read a comment from posters like Sloth of Doom (hilarious every time!).

I just wish more people would understand why some things have to happen in certain ways. I it boils my blood every time someone rates the value of a game by the time they spent to complete it once (like people ranting about the price of DLC). That argument basically means that bargain bin games are the best games you can get since they are pretty cheap per hour you can spend on them.

I love DA:O as well as NWN and so on.

It's these moaners and whiners that are festering in these Forums, moaning about $5 for a DLC,,

Moaning that they want a Cleric and not listening to a damn word they are told as to Why they cant have, and the fact that it is not done by DnD rules.

Some dont seem to understand that if they have a problem,, ask,, read,, understand.

But then some dont seem bright enough to do any of those.

But I applaud Bioware on yet another outstanding Game. My thanks to you.

Now to slaughter Howe again :D

I'd have to agree. 99.9% of the people that post on this game (aside from those asking for technical help) are very impressed with this game. Gabo, you guys got a winner. Bask in the praise and complaints as their a package deal.

Exactly! As if dining out at your favorite Steakhouse or other upscale eatery should be compared 1 to 1 price wise to grabbing something off the dollar menu at McByproducts or Bugger Queen!

I wholeheartedly agree. I'll admit there was some initial shock for me when Return To Ostagar was delayed. I just looked in the downloadable content tab and it wasn't there. After that, though, I figured they wouldn't delay it without a good reason. I've just taken to checking the DLC tab whenever I start up the game. If it's there, I'll start downloading it. I've got the points already. If it's not, I'll just keep playing the game to pass the time until it does come.

That's what I love about Dragon Age so far. It's really the first game I've enjoyed replaying.

I find it hard to believe that so many people react in such a bad way to things like this. Patience is the whole point about video games I think. You've got to be patient between the announcement and release of the game. You've got to be patient with the game while you're figuring out how it works. You've got to be patient when the game throws you for a loop. And in the end, your patience will have payed off by giving you a fun experience. People need to show the developers that same patience. All they need is time, which I'm fully willing to give them. Better a polished product late than a buggy one on time.

Well, I did my own share of ranting and whining about the RtO delay but at least I vented in the appropriate thread. Anyway I just got all the mods I spent day downloading for Fallout 3 working so here I go into the wasteland, naked. I'll go back to Dragon Age and any DLCs released once the expansion is out and about.

c'mon peeps! this is the 21st century! we want EVERYTHING, and we want it NOW! and , of course, we have the right to know ALL THE GORY DETAILS! AND YOU BETTER GIVE US OUR EVERYTHING FOR CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP!!!

seriously though, self-entitlement should be added to the list of deadly sins. it certainly turned a decent forum into a gong show for the last day or so. while i would rather be playing rto right now, i will leave all of you with a thought:

companies that put out half-assed crap for sale to their customers display the worst kind of "customer service" known. be thankful that the good folks at bioware take pride in their work, and respect their customers enough to take the heat for an unpopular decision about a piece of work that doesn't meet their high standards of quality. we will all benefit in the long run.

I just want to say thank you for doing such a great job on this game and all aspects around it. I preordered the game, and have purchased every piece of additional content I could get my hands on, and loved every bit of it :) You have managed to create something very unique here, and with -27 celsius here in Norway, I can honestly say this is the best winter I ever had entertainment-wise :) I can sit down and fire up DA at eight in the morning, and suddenly it`s eight in the evening, but it feels like it`s only been 1 - 2 hours. That`s how I know you have succeeded :) So if things don't always go as planned, don't beat yourself up about it, and keep up the spirit :)

I totally agree with the OP, people are complaining about small $5 DLC packs and worse yet some are in fact complaining that a large expansion pack is coming too soon ! LOL

The developers and moderators do a superb job with both the game and these forums and I salute and thank them personally for it.

P.S. Chris is still evil, that will never change !

I'm actually ok with complaints. People post them because they care, which is way better than somebody giving up on our games entirely. Yes, they do occasionally go too far, and the RtO thread was a good example of that (but entirely consistent with what happens when you have to make that kind of announcement).

It's hard for a BioWare rep to reply to something like that with salient info and clarification mainly because of the sheer signal/noise ratio. But as I am getting more familiar with the team and the plans, I am hoping that we can work together to bring us to a more even dull roar.

Specifically with regard to RtO, that kind of announcement is as hard for us to make as it is for you to hear. As game developers, we live for the day when you get to play through our creations. Delaying that day disappoints us too.

Rating the value of a game by the time spent to complete it is of course nonsense, but when I compare the playtime of BG2 and DA or TOB and Awakening, then I think it should be allowed to say that BG2 and TOB offered more of the same quality.
