Specifically with regard to RtO, that kind of announcement is as hard for us to make as it is for you to hear. As game developers, we live for the day when you get to play through our creations. Delaying that day disappoints us too.

Although the RtOdelay didn't bother me at all ( i mean, it will come out eventually, so it isn't like it has crushed my hopes and dreams) I had a moment of pure Schadenfreud when I pictured whatever problem it was that delayed the RtO release filtering down through the ranks at Bioware and the horrified look on the faces of the people that deal with this community on a daily basis. :kissing:

I'm actually ok with complaints. People post them because they care, which is way better than somebody giving up on our games entirely. Yes, they do occasionally go too far, and the RtO thread was a good example of that (but entirely consistent with what happens when you have to make that kind of announcement).

It's hard for a BioWare rep to reply to something like that with salient info and clarification mainly because of the sheer signal/noise ratio. But as I am getting more familiar with the team and the plans, I am hoping that we can work together to bring us to a more even dull roar.

That's very true.  The main reason I got sick of the threads regarding the delay was because I went there to get information.  What I found was hundreds of pages of useless complaints, and I didn't want to have to wade through all that to find posts with actual information regarding the delay from the good folks at BioWare.  Thank you for your candor. Even though RTO didn't release yet, I love Dragon Age and am very happy with the announcement of the Expansion to. Even though waiting sucks, I love this game, and it really doesn't matter when anything is released, because I will purchase it either way. Well said on your post Victor, hopefully things will go easier for you guys and the rest of the bioware staff.

I started posting on the DA forum in June 2004. Since then I've had about a half dozen "complaints" that I repeat constantly -- hey, maybe if they hear them often enough? So far, no joy.

I expect a lot from Bioware, and when they don't give it to me I whine (constructive criticism) -- because I think they have the talent to do it right.

Anyhow, if I thought Bioware and Bioware games were average or poor, I would not be posting -- I would never visit the site -- why bother. Thus, complaining is a sort of complement.

Totally not on topic for this thread, but you can click on the large blue Bioware symb below a thread title to see only input from Bioware employees.  Since you know tha any thread with over 30 pages of posts will contain almost no useful information at all, it is a great shortcut! ;)

hey JT, all you have to do is click the "bioware" symbol under the name of the thread (if a bioware employee has posted in that thread, it will be there) and it will just show you the bioware posts.  i've been doing it alot lately - it makes a nice garbage filter...lol.

a dull roar would be nice, Victor.  i don't envy you the job of trying to close the cages in the zoo.  Posted Image

edit:  dammit, sloth, you beat me to it.  i wish i was a faster typer...

Wait...I've ranted about the price of DLC before....  *waits for hate mail*

I don't remember if you in particular used the "this DLC should be priced at 59.087 cents an hour because the original game cost me X and it took me Y to beat it" but I do remember that most of your rants have been quite valid and are generally the type of feedback that we actually find useful, specially since you clearly know the game very well.

And one can never forget this kind of snappy reply to a post that makes no sense:

Someguy writes:   I was playing DA but I got bored because it has so many words and dialogue.

Sloth of Doom Writes: I was playing Modern Warfare but I didn't really enjoy it because of all the shooting.

True, I don't think a doallar to time comparison is valid when it comes to games.  I could code a game that takes 10000 hours to complete by making you walk across a featurless gray plain to get to the end, then charge $2.  That doesn't mean you are getting value for your money.

Personally, I felt that Warden's Keep was more of a loot/power grab than anything and added very litte to the story.  It was all very well done, just not what I was hoping for, leading me to think that had I known more about it befrehand i probably would not have paid $7 but not have felt dssapointed if I had paid say...$3 or %4.  Much like if I had known the Transformers move was nothing but poorly written charactes and explosions I wouldn't have paid to see it in theaters.  The actual LENGTH of the DLC has little bearing at all on what value I place on it, I just speak for my own persnal preferances.  (I mean hey...lots of people think Michael Bay can direct and buy his movies right?)

Also, if this post is to long, go read twitter ;)

We really appreciate good feedback and often use the constructive criticisism to improve future products. Its great to read how many of you love the game and it makes my day every time I read a comment from posters like Sloth of Doom (hilarious every time!).

I just wish more people would understand why some things have to happen in certain ways. I it boils my blood every time someone rates the value of a game by the time they spent to complete it once (like people ranting about the price of DLC). That argument basically means that bargain bin games are the best games you can get since they are pretty cheap per hour you can spend on them.

Yeah, especially when you look at a hardcore gamer vs. a casual gamer and "quick" vs. "thorough".  If you do EVERY quest in Dragon Age Origins then yah, 40 hours or more for casual gamers. Just a hardcore gamer power through the main questline? 15-20 hours tops. Ok, so what the game is crap cause it's only 15 hours when you power through it?

Overall, I Love DA:O, however I can't wait for the Xbox patch so that cunning and dex will work properly!!! :wizard:

This is the most engaging game I have played in years. And I try to play them all. I have been so disappointed lately in Big Titles, with lots of Hype, that ended up just being good, not Great. This Game is Great, playing made me remember how I felt more than a decade ago when I played my first PC RPG, Baldur's Gate.

Thanks for that BIOWARE. I will happily wait for, and then purchase whatever DLC's or Expansions I can get for as long as you guys will produce them... hopefully until right before the Next DRAGON AGE TITLE is out.

It's very nice to see a game that focuses more on the story that was originally tailored for it, rather than make a U Turn halfway in because they want it to sell more to every fanbase imaginable. WoW did that, and now I can't even look at the game anymore; delved way too far from the WC lore. So all in all, I love this game for it's storyline and character immersion, thanks again for a wonderful game.

Yeah but the thing is... no matter how many of these 'rah rah' posts come up complaining about complainers - it will solve nothing. People will continue to complain because people like complaining and what better place to do it then on the very message board dedicated to the very thing you're complaining about? In essence, I'm sorry the complaining bothers you but - get over it.

Still, it's nice to know that there are other people out there who don't like complaining. Solidarity feels pretty darn good.

I found about the delay on an other site, before it was even posted on here. The dev talked about quality issues, that could be game breaking and such and I completely understand that statement.

I worked in quality assurance for 9 years at a big car company and quality is MAIN in every industry. Without quality, we buy an inferior product (you ever done that?).

Imagine yourself getting to the garage to pick up your car after service.

The guy: Unfortunately, we found some problems, so it's not ready yet.

You: What? I want it now!

The guy: Sorry, but the breaks are in a really bad shape and have to be fixed.

You: WHAT!!11 I want my car NOW!!1111

The guy: It can explode into a fireball any time you shift....

You: (jumping up and down) Gimme the car NOOOOOW, it's supposed to be done by now!!!!11111

The guy: Sure. Here's your key.

Patience is a virtue and they found problems that has to be fixed. I can wait.

yes, you're right.  what we have here is a vicious circle with no resolution.  this thread was a calm, rational discussion by like-minded individuals who were/are disappointed not only with the delay of rto, but also with the deterioration of the forum.

purpose?  who are you, and what was your purpose for posting here and telling us all to "stfu"?  the very nature of your post was inflammatory and served no purpose and added no value.

if you don't like a topic, don't post in it.

Rating the value of a game by the time spent to complete it is of course nonsense, but when I compare the playtime of BG2 and DA or TOB and Awakening, then I think it should be allowed to say that BG2 and TOB offered more of the same quality.

You should also compare the technology involved in making BG2 and Dragon Age. It's like comparing pacman with doom.
