I'm well aware the majority of players don't post on the forums at all. You'll note I said "this thread,"

and not "everybody who has ever even glimpsed the Sacred Ashes trailer in passing."

Moreover, if it is an opinion, it cannot be irrefutable. Refutation is the bread and butter of debate, and you cannot debate facts. I'm not trying to convince you of anything. I'm just saying that I find Sacred Ashes Morrigan attractive, and so have several others, and therefore your generalizations are not so accurate as you claim. It's fine for you to not find her attractive. All I'm protesting is your ignorant and hostile attitude towards the opinions of others.

CGI Morrigan is unattractive to say the least.

Morrigan is suppose to be incredibly beautiful, a seductress, a woman who is so beautiful most men would overlook her dark soul.

I wouldn't want CGI Morrigan in my party let alone my bedroll.

Amen.

My attitude toward the opinions of others is neither ignorant nor hostile.  I fully see your point of view.  I just see that it is wrong.

I do not react with hostility to the opinions of others, except when they're wrong.

It's amusing that people feel the need to point out the differences between Sacred Ashes and in-game Morrigan, when the differences between Sacred Ashes and in-game Leliana and Sten are far FAR more obvious(in-game Lel looks like she's 40+ and just got run over by a lawnmower and in-game Sten...no comment).

The CGI mod for Sten and Leliana at least is a must-have, period.

Your opinion is that Sacred Ashes Morrigan is unattractive, and mine is that she is attractive. Neither can be "wrong," as they are opinions based solely on our personal perspectives, experiences, and tastes.

The two Morrigans look nothing alike, this is true, but to be fair you chose the most awkward frame of the video.

Still, I lol'd.

Really now, is this argument even going anywhere...? Beauty is such a subjective thing that the best we can all do is to just simply voice our own opinions and respect those of other people. That's the funny thing about subjectivity. There's no right or wrong to it. Just as you said, EJ42, you cannot convince someone who hates chocolate that it is the best ice cream flavor in the world, yes? Then what point would there be to convince someone who believes that chocolate is the best otherwise?

there is that which an individual may find personally attractive and then there is that which is considered Ideal Beauty

Having played through the game numerous times and looking at all sides of Morrigan's and Flemeth's personalities I would have to say Morrigan should be fitting into the category of Ideal Beauty.

Flemeth chooses the girls she raises as daughters based on 2 criteria, magic and beauty. Flemeth either know's what the girls will look like as adults or uses magic to make the girls look like she did when she was young. Flemeth is vain and her beauty was beauty of legend only ideal beauty falls into that category.

Morrigan's beauty would not be a hit or miss beauty some people find attractive others find unattractive. Morrigan would be without question beautiful.

So if she is 'unnatractive', you would not take her to bed then if she knocked on your door later saying she was lonely and needed some 'company'

if the anser is yes you would...then she is attractive to you...simple as that.

There is never a right or a wrong, Im prefer the project beauty version 7 Morrigan (now thats attractive)...but the SA trailer version is also very nice in a more hardened look sort of way.

Beauty is indescribable, so therefore, judging it is also the same. Each to their own.

Unless you can gather everyone who has ever set their eyes on Morrigan and make them all unanimously declate her as beautiful, that statement holds no water. No matter how much you consider a person beautiful, you cannot expect that same person to generate that same feeling in another person, even more so with everyone else. We all have different opinions and expectations. We can never all experience and feel the same thing. That's what makes us all human, and not some hiveminded lifeform. For you, Morrigan might be perfect, but there will always be that one person out there who thinks that she either lays on her makeup too thick, or that her eyes are too small, or that she's just too tall.

That's what makes beauty so effectively subjective.

"Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable, that we must change the way it looks every few months" - Oscar Wilde.

For those who want the CGI versions, Wabfloyd has a very good mod available here (social.bioware.com/project/966/).

Oh and for my tuppence, I find the in-game Morrigan more attractive but the CGI one more appropriate. I also disagree that the CGI one is ugly.

Such is the nature of men that if a woman looks like a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model we will overlook the evil within them for a time and have hope there is kindness and compassion within them.

The CGI Morrigan looks to be in her late 30s early 40s which makes no sense because she would not be Morrigan if she were that age. CGI Morrigan's facial features are too disproportionate to each other to fit the ideal beauty proportions. Example her eyes are too large and set too far out giving a bulging appearance and are also too far apart. Her chin is too large and her mouth is set to high.

Honestly beauty is not truly as subjective as some of you believe. Studies have been done, there are tons of articles about what is ideal beauty. Babies prefer pretty people, studies show babies know what beauty is and look longer at pictures of those considered ideally beautiful. People from all parts of the world have been show pictures of people and asked to rate the degree of beauty and there are certain universal proportion ratios that were rated higher in beauty no matter the cultural bias of the viewer.

And thus makes ingame Morrigan far superior? I, for one, find faults in how her face was rendered. If ideal beauty was supposed to appeal to everyone, would this not already disprove your ideal beauty theory?

kgav wrote...

Babies prefer pretty people

From what I remember, it was that babies preferred people whose faces were symmetrical. Last time I checked, symmetry was not equal to beauty. You see, unless one can give a universal truth that defines what it means to be pretty or beautiful, all arguments on true beauty would just end up going in circles.

Just what does it mean to be 'pretty'? From what you mentioned, studies say symmetry is the true definition for beauty in the eye of babies and therefore, should also be the definition of beauty in human adults. Let's say that I had the most symmetrical face in the entire world, and my face was framed by black hair. This should, in theory, make me extremely gorgeous to everyone, yes? But what if I met a person who detested black hair? Wouldn't this person, right off the bat, already percieve me as ugly? This is what I mean by subjectivity. Everyone has their own preference, and unless there's a universal  preference for eye color or skin color or hair color/ whatever, there will never be a universal agreement to beauty.

But enough of this. *exasperated sigh* All I just wanted to say that both CGI and ingame Morrigans are beautiful in their own right, and both have their flaws. Nothing to get our knickers tied in a bunch about.

It just seems to me the team that did the CGI trailer were given concept art and very brief character bios and did there own thing with the trailer. I don't feel a great deal of the story was taken into consideration when the trailer was done.

Logically thinking about the the back story of Flemeth and Morrigan wouldn't you come to the conclusion that Morrigan should be no older than her late teens to early twenties? That being the case Morrigan is probably younger that Leliana. This is a no spoilers thread so I won't go any farther but what I say is pretty true.

Is that a dude or a chick? You never know with these JRPG chars.

Actually it is a chick but she was suppose to be a he...in the game but the final game made him a her...confusing right?

:? I'm...really confused now. She was supposed to be a guy?

I told people they would be confused...the developers were making this character a he but instead decided towards the end of development to make him a her....therefore it is now a chick and not a dude.

Considering its a Jrpg they probably just added breasts. <_< Didn't even bother to remove the hair on her legs....

Though true that Morrigan seems to be someone in her prime, I disagree that the CGI Morrigan looks old. For me, she looks like someone in her 20's o:

She's suppose to look like this girl:

www.breakitdownblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/dragon-age-morrigan-look-a-like-goth-emo.jpg

http://www.breakitdo...ke-goth-emo.jpg

That was their original intentions for the character, hence the CGI.

As a girl I realize that as I have leg hair but in a JRPG? No just No. Its hard enough to tell male and female apart as is.

I'd do her, the in-game model, and Claudia Black. At the same time.

Oh Claudia, you've fueled my same-sex fantasies since I was but a young girl staying up late to watch Farscape on Space.

No.  You're wrong because your opinion differs from mine.  What world do you think you live in?
