Hi guys,

I was thinking about the feasibility of including past companions as current companions in dragon age 3.

I must say that, while I honestly love most companions we've had (especially morrigan and isabela) I just see any of them returning.

I mean:

Alistair: Can be dead
Leliana: Can be dead (although we all know how that went)
Sten: Can be dead
Wynne: Would surely be dead if DA3 takes place at least 10 years after the event of DA:A, and can die in sacred ashes
Dog: Highly unlikely
Zevran: Can be dead
Morrigan: Can be dead
Oghren: Can be dead (but comes back to life in DA:A)

And so none of the original companions are certain to be alive: thus I cannot imagine that Bioware would spend time and money making content that many would not see (as per Mass Effect 3, where no members of the ME2 squad, minus Garrus and Tali, returned)

DA2 is more promising on this front: however many of them can die depending on whther you side with mages or templars: I think the only ones that cannot die are Aveline, Varric and Isabela, not 100% certain)

Would you like to see previous companions return in this role? Would you be satisfied with a cameo? Have there been any Developer quotes about this issue?

Thanks for taking the time to read Posted Image

Good. They shouldn't return anyway. Time to let some new character shine.

Cameos, major and minor is all I really need from the old cabal. Like the Warden (Warden Commander if they live to see that promotion) or Hawke, I'm ready to accept these characters being front and centre as a thing of past Dragon Age games.

Bring on the new companions!!

Characters might return, however briefly, to give continuity to the events in Thedas - to the overall story of the age.

I would love to see several of them, even if it's just in passing. Or even if they don't appear, but are mentioned as a rumor or side story.

A lot of the mentioned character in OP post got buff to the BioWare Awesome Button Protection Program. Thus making them invincible and alive for Dragon Age 3.

You choice don't matter /masseffect3.

You will not be able to say I didn't warn you. Don't come crying at Dragon Age III release okay?!?

I never saw Kaidan after Me1, he was still in the game, just that he was dead in all my play throughs.

But this was a binary decisions all players contended with--they either would have Ashley or have Kaidan. There was no other method. You could be assured that SOMEONE would be there to fulfill each other's roles. And I'll point out how little the VS featured in ME2 and how late in the game they come back in ME3, which could be because one died.

Wynne officially "dies" in Asunder.

Morrigan cannot be killed in any Origins playthrough.

Some characters may return and have a major role, help for one quest or just a cameo. Some characters never die no matter your choices hinting a return.

Some of these are: Leliana, Varric, Morrigan(hinted death), Flemeth and Isabela

I would not want to see them return as a permanent companion maybe being a temporary one depending on their role. At least some should return to provide a sense of familiarality to some players like Zevran, Alistair and Leliana did.

If they did make a return i would like it to be more than a cameo, whether it be them accompanying you on a quest or just someone who gives the quest that would be awesome. Also depending on your choices in previous games it could affect when and where they appear.

They said new and returning favorites from BOTH games so I would expect to see some of them in cameos whether you like them or not. LOL

There are a lot of characters that I'd like to see return as more than cameos, and as much as I'd like to see a King of Fighters style cast of thousands with all previous companions from DAO, DAA, DA2, etc. returning, it's not exactly feasible from a development perspective, and would get in the way of the usual bonds you end up developing via extended conversations. I'd be happy if they can at least match the companion count that DAO had. ME3's 8 (7 per playthrough, 6 without dlc) was something of a disappointment after ME2's 13. I guess DA2 was about the same as ME3, but DAO had a solid 9 with dlc.

Well we know for a fact that Varric, Sebastian and Leliana are sporting Plot Armour in Dragon Age 2.

So there's three living companions right there.

Would I like to see some return? Yeah. Sebastian. As a major character. That open ended Starkhaven plot-line is really annoying.

Would I be satisfied with cameos? I hate cameos. If they make sense in the context of the world then I can grit my teeth and bear it, but pointless appearances that make little to no sense in the context of the world/current events? No. No nonsense cameos. Please god.

You mean that i shoulkd not  have Katsumi., Samara, Grunt, Mordin, Miranda, Krios & sons, Jacob,  Jack and kelly  in  my ME3 ?
Damn your beedy eyes Bioware,  letting me download a fake from your own website.

Lelianna is alive a kicking at the end of DA:2 having been resurected if there was the need to.
Though the warden not being around if romaced will be hard to explain, but again GW= eventual offing in the deep roads.
Sebastian, cassandra  and Varic  seems to be prone candidates  for a return.

Returning char should have a side quest, or be part of the plot/story. IE  more than a cameo. kind of like the cast of ME2 that I magined being part of ME3.

Cameo could be good for hawke and his/her LI.

I will totally be cool with only seeing Varric, Isabela, and Leliana in the next game.

Along with Cassandra and Cullen, most likely, but they're not as familiar to me yet.

I don't think they'd want to repeat themselves. So any companions returning as companions are likely to have Anders style character development, which I probably wouldn't like.

So I'd probably rather not have any returning companions as companions.

Hopefully any returns would be cameo only - I'd rather have all new characters.

To be quite honest, I'd have little to no issue if the series took a complete reboot with DA3 (meaning, in the sense that no old faces return). BUT, I would prefer to see certain characters return, regardless of the "likelihood" in question. For the most part, it's a matter of how fitting it would be to the story; I wouldn't characters to return just for the sake of returning (a la ME3). There needs to be something behind their reappearance.

If someone from an older game returns as a companion, I would probably love it, but I feel like it should only happen if it works with the plot.

Since Leliana is now alive in everyone's game no matter what, if the Inquisition is what everyone seems to think it is, it would possibly make sense for her to be a party member. Though she'd honestly be my last choice, since I never used her in DA:O.

I'm more inclined to hope for more minor NPC's who showed up in earlier games, to become companions in this one - a la Merrill and Isabella. Cos then its a familiar face who you get to learn more about - as opposed to previous companions, who I already know all about.

I bet Shale is coming back, given her role in Asunder.

Unless you killed them off in previous games I don't see them dead. At the end of the second game The Warden and Howke both go missing and the third game (where it is based on mages and Templar's), Bioware have hinted that that they both may show up, so I don't think it will be based that far ahead.

Given that most of the companion deaths gets retconned anyway, I am pretty sure we will be able to see all of them in DA3. "Dead" or not.

You can't introduce complete new characters with every game, except you change the title from Dragon Age to something else or do a  time  jump. No serious author, writer would do that. The audience needs someone it knows, persons who represent the universe, or do we f.e. have a new Darth Vader in each of the Star Wars movies..

I want a new squad, the only character I want back would be Bethany/Carver, but they might have too many variables for it to work.

The others, no. And even if they return as a cameo it better make sense.
