I, personally, did not really care all that much how much or how little the armor changes. Just the fact that I can equip more than two types of armor options for my companion, and then their rings.

Why Hawke was able to give out accessory fashion advice, but not clothing is a bit odd to me. But hey, I'm just a guy on a forum, with crazy thoughts and dreams.

Regardless - the aesthetics of it look cool enough. But what I fear (what I DREAD) is that the equipment naming conventions are the same as DA2. With 9 million generic pieces of the same item, with different star ratings for the same bonuses. It was impossible to manage.

If you throw companion armor in on top of that, its going to be a hot mess. At least I knew I had Oghren in the Legion of the Dead armor, Sten in the Juggernaut armor, etc. Having to memorize which three-star armor set I had on every character would be a nightmare.

I imagine the reasoning is something like, "Hey, here is a magic ring" is a pretty reasonable thing to say, versus "Please wear this cuirass, these specific boots, that helment, and also these gauntlets".

Okay, actual reason for my post is here: I'm not sure I get what you mean. The stars were there just to help newbs figure out that, well, the computer tells me this item sucks less. Depending on your build stars were irrelevant (usually). What do you mean by hot mess?

I love this idea! The more customization options we get the better. My only concern now is they will give us all these different visual options tied to armor pieces and then it will all be irrelevant.

They will look like whatever piece of armor has the best stats.

Should just let us visually customize each companion in whatever way we like. Then have the armor sets impact stats only.

You could even make it so that as the player levels up he/she unlocks new styles. Thus preventing a level 1 character from looking like a total bad ass. (For story related reasons... obviously)
