You don't have to imagine it. James, the father of the protagonist in Fallout 3 is voiced by Liam Neeson.Abraham_uk wrote...
Have any of you briefly played that section in Fallout 3 where you have to travel a long distance with your father?
Imagine if that guy was voiced by Liam Neelson.

Yeah, no reason to drag this conversation out much further when the topic is about mothers. So, I'll just say what I think after giving it more thought then leave this topic alone as well.brushyourteeth wrote...

First off, I think a mother companion isn't a bad idea
Second, why can't i just say that I'd like to see a father companion more than a mother one without being accused of being sexist. When I saw someone else suggest a father companion and suggested things like the proud father or the disappointed father(something i could relate to in my teens) I found that 'personally' more interesting than anything I've seen anyone suggest about a mother one. Plus I wanna have fun pissing off a father companion.
Edit: You could still do the disappointed mother but thats not cliche enough.
I'm not really trying to push this (in fact this will be my last post about it) but what could a father figure contribute to the story that a mother couldn't? Bear in mind that
1.) in the DA world, males and females are equal and nave no hard-and-fast gender roles. That means that the dialogue written for the character would work just as well for a mother as it would for a father.
2.) While the father/son relationship might seem like a good enough reason on its own, not every player chooses to roll a male protagonist.
So with that in mind, what would make a father better, or in your words "more memorable?"
There's a subtle sexism in that. Just letting you know, because you didn't seem to see it in your comments the first time, or I think you'd feel bad about it (you seem like a decent person).

Liam Neeson is a terrible voice actor IMO.
Though if Betty White was any good at VA, she would be awesome as protag mum.

It is inevitable.

That doesn't make you sexist -- that makes your preference for a dad figure understandable, but not universal.TNT1991 wrote...

You know, there is such a thing as a daughter/father relationship that can create as much as a strong bond as a son/father relationship? >.>
And on "which parent has a more impact" subject, it would be the father to me. Not because I'm trying to be 'sexist' but because I grew up with a loving and caring dad, while my mother didn't give two ***** about me and my sisters (even now). So whenever I play a game with a mother in it and she's a *****, I can't help but rage.
I've never experience any good and memoriable mothers (in any media) to make me go "yeah, I fell for you mom! " like the way Fallout 3 did with the father/daughter relationship (made me tear up about what had happened to him, and instantly became one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time) .
So, if DA3 did include a mother companion that was "caring" and actually made me support her and care for her (like FO3 did with the dad), instead of making me wish I was an orphan in the game (like DA2's mom, etc.), then I would be on board with this.
My two cents, anyway.

Sweet Maker, yes, but only if she gets to help write her own dialogue.Mummy22kids wrote...

I'd rather have a dad. Or optional - like the Beth/Carver thing but with less dying. You could choose whether to take mum or dad or neither.

Imagine having the Kaidan/Ashley situation, but with your mum and dad.
I wouldn't know who to pick.
