My current graphics card is the geforce gt 520 and my processor is an AMD athlon II 635
I am currently having issues where i get a frame rate drop when playing more demanding games. I am tninking of buying the AMD Phenom II X4 965 processor so i can increase performance and stop the framerate dropping. Unless its not the processor?

Just get something like the Radeon HD 7770 or the GTX 650 should not be too much bottlenecked by your cpu.. They,re rather cheap too 130-150 $. It's always better having a little too much HP not used rather than not enough.

Which is the bare minimum for gaming, I'd get at least the slightly more expensive 650 Ti, but in that price range you're better off with an AMD card really. 7770 as the cheapest entry into gaming or 7850 to serve most of your gaming needs easily. The GeForces aren't any worse, it's just that the ones with a comparable performance are more expensive, for me the GTX 660 would be the first to consider, and you get the same performance for much less from AMD.

That coupled with that Phenom you consider should serve your gaming needs quite well, that CPU is easily the one to get on a tight budget and still runs all games easily, whether or not Intel's CPUs are faster.

Your processor may not be among the best but it's not the real problem. However, your video card isn't meant for gaming and has to be upgraded. For your set up I'd recommend an HD 7850 or a GTX 650 Ti.
