Should The Warden and Hawke come back and play a big role in DA3?

But part of me doesn't want them to come back because I fear it'll be in some awkward manner that won't do either character justice.

Since this obviously isn't a continous series, I couldn't care less.
Which Warden and which Hawke should return exactly? The canon version or the bazillion of variations every user had?
That would be a nightmare to integrate and I'd rather they invest that time, money and effort into storytelling, quests and animations.
Here, here.
I agree as well.
Some cheese eating animation is a lot more easier then trying to bundle the different stories of the Warden and Hawke, I think . Just saying...

I suggested it because of course both their stories have to end at some point, but what I would love to see is both their stories have a happy ending. Before we move on to other characters and plots, it would be great to know that I gave both previous characters the best endings I could and with both endings from each game I don't feel that has happened. I know life isn't perfect but this is a game so why not make their lives as perfect as we can get it? I feel it would be brilliant if the Warden can get rid of the taint, live as normal lives as they can. If we're never going to play with them again afterwords it won't be boring in future games because they wont be involved. And of course sort Anders out. He was messed up in the second one, he was much better in the first. :-)
Sorry... I don't think you're going to get any of that. The happiest ending you're likely to even wrestle out of Bioware may have been DA:O. I think they are going to do their best to ignore Hawke and the Warden completely and let them fade into obscurity. Its the cheapest and least resource-intensive solution to something that not everyone wants to see or even CAN see (if your Warden is dead). So I think that makes it the most likely.
And, to be fair... I sorted Anders out just fine in DA2.
Yeah it looks like it doesn't it. Sad
Let me guess, you killed him? So bad lol

I don't want to see them in game. I just know BioWare will give my ladies bad hair and weird outfits.
I'm seriously surprised that no one is like "Warden and/or Hawke for LI!!!" yet. ;p

I wouldn't mind a codex or some gossip about what my Hawke and Warden may be up to. If it's gossip, it doesn't conflict with one's headcannon. I wouldn't mind them mentioned by other characters.

I wouldn't mind that at all. The name escapes me, but it was a semi-spy type RPG for GameBoy colour and it had a system like that. No one knew who you were but they all knew of you as guy and guy apparently crapped nukes and his BO smelt of a thousand meadows worth of wild roses. etc. Maybe not quite to that degree, but some type of gossip thing similar.
This would work especially well if were to be semi-centralized in Orlais.

I don't care about Hawke. Whether they make returning non-playable green skin Hawke or blue skin Hawke with Joker's personality, is the least of my concern. I never recognize Hawke as PC anyway. To me, he is no different than the rest of DA 2's npcs.
However, I'm very concern for my warden's return in non-playable form. I'm very certain that BioWare will never do it right no matter how much they try. My warden is unique chaotic individual who you cannot simply compare to any generic goody-goody Bioware's characters ever created.

Could be a background choice if you have a warden or hawk to play with....
Seriously though in theory i would love it to have the warden or hawke back, but in practice it will be difficult to implement in a way to make everyone happy....I would like to have the warden or hawke to play a part off screen with what they do is depends on dialogue options (like KOTOR2 in chosing Revans background) or choices during gameplay.

Edit: I also feel like Hawke and the Warden's story are told. I want the DA3 protagonist to save the world and do their own thing, instead of living under the shadow of my last 2 protagonists.
I just don't see much benefit to having the Warden and Hawke appear. I don't mind if Flemeth or somebody comes forward and tells me what has happened to them, where they are, and what they're doing, if anything. But if I want to play the Warden or see him kicking butt and being a hero, I'll go play DA:O. Same with Hawke and DA:2.

BTW I am tired of Leliana. I hope her role isn't major in DA3.

I believe that any bringing back of the characters would be a disappointment.
Especially the warden given the wide variety that could have existed.
So I want a quick explanation of why they disappeared but otherwise move on and focus on the new protagonist.

If the Warden does come back I'd prefer it be in the background. You hear about the Hero of Fereldan doing things off screen in an attempt to restore sanity, but never actually interact with them directly.
I really don't care about Hawke cause Hawke never really felt like my character. Flag whatever personality I chose for him/her, don't fiddle to much with the look, and throw them in, it could be fun actually.

The problem then, of course, becomes determining just what the Warden is doing off screen. Whatever you choose to do, someone is going to complain that their Warden would not do that. There are Pro-Templars, Pro-Mages, Pro-Peace, Wardens who became monarchs and would choose to focus on Ferelden, Wardens who just want to be left alone with LIs, etc.DPSSOC wrote...

And you can't even use their actions to determine what this particular Warden might because you can contradict yourself. For instance, my Warden was a bit of an hypocrite. He was very Andrastian and supported the Templars but, end of the game, not only has he walked through an elven magical device with an apostate, he also fathered an Old God. Likewise, my Hawke was pretty much entirely Pro-Templar during the course of the game but then sided with the mages because they did not deserve to die for what Anders did.
So, how do we determine this? Are they Pro-Mage because of their final decisions? Or does the ratio of Templar choice vs Mage choice makes them Pro-Templar? And in that case, will they be 100% something?
Honestly, I don't think there is a way to bring either of these character back in a satisfying manner. It's probrably better if they don't try. At least, that way, the fans can just pretend their previous PCs are just doing whatever they want them to do.
