Doesn't Bioware / EA have substantial extra costs for "licensing" from either Microsoft (X-Box) or Sony (PS-3)?

I think so. The fees are pretty high.

You bet, how do you think console makers win their money, it's not by selling consoles but by licensing the games on it Image IPB

What is the cost of licensing?  Is it a flat rate, or a percentage of the retail value?  Is it a non-value added 10 % tithe to the church?

You have to hand over all magical items and are denied access to your abilities if you act outside your alignment (which has to be lawful good).

*sniff sniff* I smell EA on the pricetag.

That is because you are an idiot. Plain and simple.

It has been said in the other thread. The price is comparable to BG and NWN expansions, which had similiar amounts of content.

Really people.

Someone molested my dog, I smell EA!

It's a $10 difference between your average expansion.... but it's coming out significantly sooner than most expansions come out. For example Dawn of War 2's expansion is coming out a year later than the original game while Dragon Age is getting an expansion only 4 months after. If you wait until next November I'm sure you can get Awakening for $29.99 by then.

Of course people would never be satisfied. When Return to Ostagar was announced everyone wanted an expansion instead, and now they want more for less. These things cost money to make, and $40 is a fair price for the amount of content we're getting. (15 hours is longer than most retail games, including most Bioware games such as Kotor, Mass Effect and Jade Empire)

EDIT:

Yes the extra cost of the console versions is because of Licensing fees.  PS3 games cost significantly more to produce because bluray disc are more expensive too, which likely contributes to the cost.

Mass Effect is less than 15 hours? Really? I guess maybe if you skip all the side quests, hit escape every time somebody talks, and know exactly where everything is and what you need to do.

It has been a while since I played KOTR but I'm pretty sure that was significantly longer than 15 hours also.

But I'll buy the expansion for $40 most likely.
