Did you ask her about what Bards in Orlais do? If you're talking about her personal quest, you need to ask her that, then you will (at some point) have a random encounter with some assassins sent by Marjolaine. Then she will open up to you about her real past.

AFAIK that doesn't have anything to do with romancing her, though.

Depending on your game version, if you get her approval to high before you ask her the dialogs about bards being spies, those key dialogs go away and you can't progress her plot line.

If you break up with her, or otherwise get her approval down lower, the dailog options come back, and you will be able to restart the romance and get the approval back by doing her personal quest.

Aye, make sure you ask her about bards being spies in Orlais (or something like that). that option should appear around 30-35 approval. I made the same mistake once (on my first playthrough, but then again I never really aimed for a romance with her). her personal quest is fun as well

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "break up with her"?  I asked her to leave my party and poof - gone out of my camp so I undid that.  Thanks.

Is there any option to ask her about something personal? I no longer have that option on the PC, but I thought that had something to do with the 1.02 patch.

Hmmm, can't help there Gordon. Never used (or noticed that option Kepha mentions) before. I think breaking up can only be done when you're in romance with Leliana, right ?

I'd assume so. I'm just confused.... The steps I hear from people to romance her is to break up with her... which assumes you've already romanced her!!! ARRGGG.

Romancing her and getting her personal quest are two different things entirely. You can romance her and never do her personal quest, which is what you question referred to. Depending on what version of the game you're playing, if you get her approval too high (meaning she's in love with you since she basically automatically falls in love with you without you really even doing anything other than raising her approval) you can't do her personal quest.

In order to do her personal quest you have to ask her about bards in orlais. If you don't have that option, it was suggested that you 'talk about something personal' with her. You'll get the option to 'I think we need to end this' or some such.

If you just want to romance her, her personal quest notwithstanding, just get her approval up, be nice to her. She'll fall in love with you no matter what.

You don't have to break up with her at all to romance her. But if you are romancing anyone else she tends to get jealous easily.

Always ask about her and have her tell you her stories.

Compliment her when the option is available. There's something about " what's a beautiful woman like yourself doing in a Chantry" or something along those lines.

You'll have to do her personal quest after she tells you about bards like previous people have stated.

After completing her personal quest ask her if "she's feeling better" and stuff about how Marjolaine was special to her and how "people change".

Also use the gifts..

Any gift with "Andraste" in its name goes to her. Some others I can think of off the top of my head are a Silver Sword, Nug, and a Chantry Amulet. There's a few others too. I know Andraste's Grace (a flower) can be found in a few locations and it opens up dialogue with her. Oh!

I remember reading somewhere that her rating has to be at 100 in order to get her to invite you to her tent, but I know I have seen some people posting this wasn't always the case.

It does make it easier to gain her approval though. Unless you have a lot of her gifts. I personally liked her personal quest over all the others. Her storyline and Zev's are the best overall.

You cannot complete the romance (as in sleep with her) without doing her personal quest however. And if you've gotten approval up to high you can't trigger the dialogs which lead to the quest.

If there is no option to break up, you are left with two choices. On the PC you can use the developers console to directly lower her approval. Otherwise you just have to take around and do things that upset her. She gets the biggest disapproval swings from solving the main quests in ways that go against her point of view. Siding with Branka, the Werewolves, and killing Connor are probably the three biggest hits to approval I can think of that are "safe". (Obviously defiling the Urn will get her pissed off, but in a she'll leave you sort of way.)

Lower approval by taking to low morality choices in some quest, until approval is between 26-33

I totally agree about Leliana and Zev's stories. Even though I think Leliana herself is entirely too annoying. She's sorta like molasses. Though Alistair's story always tugs at the ole heart strings every time I play through it.
