I have an area fro driders in my latest mod and was thinking on the way home how to use the placeables.

Tables with no chairs for a starter and beds made from the open crates in the city placeable set with blankets and cushions perhaps?

Has anyone else done an area inhabited by driders?

Oval cup shaped furniture to serve as chairs or beds, allowing the spider body to get cupped by it and the legs to be pulled up. They might use benches to sit on, except turned sideways so the length is under the abdomen, so perpendicular to a table instead of parallel to a table like humans.

Probably needs to be generally much more open space between things than a human place because of their large bodies.

Those are good thoughts, I like the length on benches idea.

I thought to have no doors, I don't see a drider having much use for doors.

I think all the tables should be higher, I can judge that by the model in the toolset.

I would guess that even sitting they would be close to or at their full regular height, so things would be built around the standing height. I don't imagine centaurs to sit a whole lot, since I don't know that horses do. So I would guess that driders behavior would be spider influenced as well. They might make nests, but out of fabrics and silks? Lots of meat in their kitchen though.

My understanding of driders is they tend to be insane from the driderization process. If that's right, you could really go any way you felt like, because insanity!

That's a nice idea thanks Ark, and I think it can be done too.

One to try in the morning,

Furniture for Driders? Pj I don’t think driders have furniture. For one most of the descriptions of driders I have read describes them more beast then man or drow. I imagine a driders lair would look much like a wild spider’s lair full of webs, mummified corpse and bones. Remember driders are not supposed to be much smarter than Zombies and usually controlled by a Lolth favored drow high priestess.

Hmmm, in that respect I have been led astray and thus I am going to have to work something into this mod. In truth I have not gone with silk sheets and four poster beds.

I did not look at the lore so when I saw the stock blueprints were for a drider wizard and cleric type it did not occur to me that they were mad as a silk bag full of grasshoppers.

I am going to invent something, hey it's fantasy Posted Image

Yeah there’s no problem with having intelligent driders. Just make sure you have a little back story that explains why these driders are more intelligent than normal.
As for the drider cleric and wizard, well there warrior animation is less then perfect so I think the author thought they make better spell casters. Whether drider spell caster exists is purely a DM call.

…maybe the driders somehow killed there master and this freeing them up for independent and intelligent thought.

Friendly drider, "I heard that humans like eating things on sticks, so I have a treat for you!" <spawn in the charred body on pike placeable>

I'm also of the opinion that driders are wicked abominations that deserve to be squished on sight. But it's always amusing to run into the rare intelligent breed that will give some backstory, talk to the party a bit and add some depth to the encounter area.

Before getting squished.

Harumph!

PJ, here's some info about Driders that you might find useful :)

Only high-level priestesses in good standing with Lolth are able to initiate the transformation of a dark elf into a drider. This transformation is very painful, and lasts at least 12 hours. Driders develop a poisonous bite. Their digestion changes and they must drink blood of living creatures for sustenance. Driders still maintain the spells and special abilities they had developed as a drow. There can exist any character class of drider. They retain intelligence and memories. This usually makes them bitter, spiteful creatures. Some hunt for magic powerful enough to undo the transformation.

Driders play many roles in drow society. The dark elves both fear and are revolted by driders. After transformation, they are usually pushed to the wild area around a drow city. Driders are usually found in company with tiny, huge and giant spiders. Driders speak Common, Elvish, and Undercommon. Driders are almost always Chaotic Evil.

Hope that helps some :)

For some fancy drivers some of the estate furniture may work. There is a curved bed/couch placeable that support a drider. A retexture or even a tint map would make it a bit more drider friendly.

Thanks for that OfficerDonNZ, that actually fits very well with the area I have created.

These driders don't do much speaking though, they are more the kill on sight type :)

The banners are in the GPS trinity placeables set. That has some very nice detail in it thopught the banners have a pattern which is very hard to tint out as you can with the stock placeables.

The pic looks good, but it seems too illuminated to me (if that's the final version). Maybe you could add some drow stuff too, like some Lolth's banner or symbol, if the driders worship her or some other drow god. I don't know how much driders care for decoration.

You're right Ark, that's build lighting set. i will make it gloomier.

I don't have any llolth placeables. I migh see if i can find some as this is a drow area and some more placeable to set the mood would be cool.

Ah, well, I don't know exactly what's available in the toolset. I've seen these Bane banners in so many modules, I figured there would be something similar for some drow god(dess).

So are these driders living in a place previously inhabited by drow? If so, maybe you could add some drow ruins or old furniture (again, if available).

Not exactly what I'd call "furniture", but since driders are supposed to drink blood, they could have the ocassional corpse lying somewhere, or maybe some sort of room or corral to keep their "food".

I did look for some placeables not found any yet :(

The driders in this case occupy a level close to drow but it is very much thiers.

Don't want spoil too much, since I am hoping you will play test :D

Sure. I'll do it as long as real life allows.
