Trying to make the 'evil' decisions in DA is hard. I'm still trying to trudge through mine without reloading, but it is really hard..

Killing the elves is obviously not very "good", since only Zathrian is responsible, and it's actually quite difficult to do it (2 points in coercion and a 30 cunning, and I still couldn't persuade Swiftrunner; which is odd considering he's usually all worked up about killing people who oppose him and want to do him harm, even going against the Lady's will when he fought you once or both times in the forest).

It's not good, but DA isn't about being good, it's about defeating the Blight, and this decision was one of the more easily justifiable ones (although still hard for me, personally, to do) since you can look at it as choosing between a force which, as a whole, is scattered around Fereldan and has lost a certain amount of its fighting force due to the werewolves attacking and turning them, or a force which is obviously more bloodthirsty and effective in its attacks.

The werewolves, and the Lady, state that their main concern is the removal of the curse. That is why they attacked the Dalish in the first place, though of course vengeance is also another part. If you choose to attack the Dalish, they can never be anything besides werewolves again, which I imagine is at least partially why the persuade check is so difficult.

Considering how much murder I rained down on a wide assortment of beings, deservedly or not, I'm not sure there is any conceivable RP reason I could come up with for judging anyone else's morality in the world of DA. Outside of me RPing a righteous wingnut I suppose.

Out of the three options, I found killing the elves to be my favorite. I mean...they're elves *gag*. :P

turning off my snark-o-meter for a moment to say:

This right here is why DA is a great game, even a work of art, i'd argue. Great artworks affect the beholder viscerally and emotionally. They grip you. DA does that, as do most of Bioware's games.

Cheers for making something that people respond to with their hearts and souls. It's truly an amazing thing given the state of the industry today.

OK, snark-o-meter back on.

Well said...any game that makes you think about a choice, before, during...and way after...has done a great job.

I cried killing Connor.

On topic, when I decided that, RP-wise, the thing to do would be to kill the wolves (partly RP, partly because on my previous playthrough I had persuaded Zathrian to lift the curse, and wanted to do something different this time round) I got slaughtered the first time I tried to fight them all. The dialogue preceding the fight had been so harrowing, however (the Spirit lady begging that I change my mind and be merciful, etc.), that when I had to go through it all again, I skipped every line so I wouldn't have to hear it and feel the guilt over again. Was terrible.

I imagine slaughtering the elves, when I finally get around to it (I dislike making the choice, reloading and then trying another choice to see the different outcomes, it feels too cheaty for my liking), will be a lot easier. I'm dreading preserving the Anvil. Killing the mages wasn't too bad, though.

I fully agree it's a valid choice to make and a valid way to play. It just seems odd that the good option is pushed on you so readily and so easily, and even makes a comparatively easy ending battle (if you had to go all the way back to the Dalish camp, it would've been a bit better, since some pretty nasty darkspawn get in the way). Compare that to Connor, where you had to work to make the good choice, and you were effectively barred from it if you had previously sided with the templars (with no forewarning of the situation, at that), and even then, you could only leverage the First Enchanter's magical power if you could also persuade him, otherwise you had to do with one of your mages. Or compare to the dwarves where the choice of who to support was more gray and perhaps not even getting the results you expect, or the Anvil, where you got pit against some pretty nasty foes for siding with Caridin.

Plus, even if you do convince the werewolves to attack the elves, they still attempt to get Zathrian to remove the curse, and he's still steadfast in refusing as usual, but the ensuing attack is less forgiving.

I'm about to get to my 4th run through the Forest - and I just know I won't be able to do anything but break the curse - again. I've tried to do either of the others - Witherfang or kill the Dalish - and I just can't.

The only thing harder, in my book, would be to let Branka live and retain the Anvil of the Void.

I've managed to do some of the other 'evil' things - but only once, for achievements, and then I have to reload & do the 'right' way - and never again. I can be selfish, haughty, snide, intimidating, sarcastic, and mean. No problem. Great deeds of evil? Just too painful. I cannot enjoy playing - it spoils my enjoyment of that character. So when I tried to keep evil deeds, I hated the character and deleted them or loaded an old save.

That is literally EXACTLY how I feel whenever I do an immoral act. EVERY SINGLE TIME I try to do something evil I feel regrettful about it and reload a previous save. I'll always try to be snide or funny, but when it comes down to serious moral choices in this game I can't say I have the heart to follow through and do something evil. I actually stopped playing one of my characters and deleted him because I didn't like some of the previous choices I had made.

With the Elves, I made Zathrian decide that it was time to lift the curse and cure the werewolves. I didn't directly kill him, and he freed them from their curse.

Odd thing though, I thought this would have made me side with the wolves, but no, I got the trophy for siding with the elves. I suppose it's because I didn't kill them and got rid of the wolves, but it caught me off guard initially.

I talked to Zathrian, had Lanaya yell at me over half empty chest, heard Cammen stuttering and had to persuade stupid Geyna exactly 11 times. I am very happy I have an option to slaughter them all....

Its a stupid song book you can give to the hermit for the acorn if you're too self righteous to kill him.

You can open the chest right there if you are persistent, she yells at you twice and then leaves you alone. And yeah its just a book you can trade for acorn.

The evil choice here is hard to justify, but preserving the Anvil is clearly the right thing to do. It's that or dooming the dwarves to genocide.

Having to kill Shale is tough, though.
