I tend to agree with you, my problem with any kind of "list" is that it shows focus on what individuals want in a game, not what would be best for the game itself, for I see points people made that I would think would be a disservice to the game if included or focused on more in future Mass Effect games.

3) Lore coherent story with possibility of victory depending on our choices.

I agree there are more than just 3 things that make a good game. This covers most if not all.Abraham_uk wrote...

Basically, the higher the votes, the more people agreed with that comparitive arrangment.

Thanks for that
Still, thanks for linking it and writing so thoroughly about the results - it was interesting, even if I didn't feel it was completely relevant for this topic

Yeah, I know it's very hard to only list 3 things, and I do admit I should maybe have allowed for 5 instead, but a dozen is too much. I'm looking for what people consider the essence of Mass Effect, even if it is so much more than those 3 things. You're not supposed to be allowed to list all of the important aspects

2. The part where I find the guy and try to get him to go quietly using a complex algorithm taking into account my past decisions and/or "alignment."
3. The part where he either goes or gets shot because my "score" isn't high enough.

Nothing wrong with choosing something different; Mass Effect can be a lot of different things to different people

Does a large hubspace and planet scans and multiple side missions count?
Does there need to be a lack of direction when going somewhere? Does it not count as 'exploration' if you're prompted to go there?
Does there simply need to be padding space? Most of the ME1 worlds were empty, and most of the little that was there were irrelevant tokens.

Irrelevant? Yes. But it really added to the mood of the game and the mystery of the universe. Those strange, black pyramids etc. told a multitude of small stories. Together they added depth to the universe, as clearly, there was a lot more going on around us than just the small parts related to the main plot.Dean_the_Young wrote...

That said, I'm not one of the ones voting for exploration myself, but I do see that exploration adds to the overall experience, as well as the replayabilty of the game.

3. Ricin
If those aren't enough 1. Interactive Dialogue 2. Story 3. Unique Characters will have to do.

2. Characters. See ME2 for what I mean. Miranda, Thane, Mordin, and Legion were some of the best characters in recent gaming history. This is the most important component in my opinion.
3. Shepard.

I take it that this is more of a wishlist than anything else, right? Because from everything you've listed, hardly anything of all that is actually (properly) implemented in the Mass Effect games. Especially ME3 is lacking in most of the departments you listed.Abraham_uk wrote...
