I just beat the first game. Thank you thank you thank you for the help. I'm so glad I played it.
Is it ok if I just don't play the first game?

I would think it's fine to skip Mass Effect if you want. But you are seriously missing out on alot of fun. I expected the graphics and combat to be clunky and not that great (I too started with ME2 and loved it). Feros is definetly one of the hardest missions I've endured. Trust me, it gets way better once you get used to the controls and get better gear.

Now that you've played it...would you play it again? I've beaten ME1 at least 13 or so times, and it never gets old. The beginning where you just wander around the Citadel doing sidequests, tin foil mini skirt, "big place!' etc....It feels like going home.

Quite the turnaround from your OP where it was giving so much grief that you weren't having any fun. Glad you ended up enjoying it, and like Chaosapiant I'm interested to hear if a replay is on the cards. I'm going to stick with my recent decision to have a bit of an ME break to play some other games in my library, but I think that's just going to make coming back to ME1 next time for what'll be my 9th or 10th playthrough a bit sweeter.Sentibunny wrote...

IMO, I don't think there is anything wrong with skipping the first game. I'm a PS3 player. I played ME3 first and loved it, then I bought ME2 and imported to 3 and loved it even more, then I downloaded the first game to do a triology playthrough and I didn't like ME1. The story was great and I now have a better understanding of the final choices in 3 and the connection between Saren and Shepard. I'm also more connected to the genophage story having met Wrex. (Although my renagade still chooses to sabotage lol!)
The gameplay was horrible! I LOVE using the sniper rifles in 2 and 3. In 1 I barely wanted to touch it because it was just a hot mess to deal with. The hacking is tedious, I can say the same for ME2. I'm so happy in ME3 they got rid of it. I hated the Liara bugged Romance. I clearly told her I wasn't interested yet they had an almost kiss moment, then she comes to his room to talk about being a damn virgin which I rejected her again, then I started ME2 and sure enough her pic is in the cabin. sigh. Now I have to replay ME1 and just ignore her and hope it works out, I plan to make this my last playthrough of that game.

Eh, to each their own. I happen to like the first game's storyline better than the 2nd. But I like the action and music better in the 2nd.
