And that problem is rape jokes.  Seriously not funny and offensive as hell.  And you let this stay on the boards.  There are people who post here, not just women, who have been sexually abused.  If you want to be this progressive company that you purport to be, you'll smack the ish out of this and keep it down.  There aren't just cis white males posting here...and guess what, we don't think rape jokes are totes funny.

there was a thread about sending private messages to some people to get threads locked but it was unsticked and i don't  know  where it is now.

You know what there is also a problem with? Getting around the language filters by putting spaces between letters of words people KNOW they are not allowed to say.

Recalling something, as bad as it is, isn't bannable. But taking measures to deliberately circumvent a feature to make this site a PG environment is,

You know looking at the post that sent you over the edge I can understand where you are coming from but the original poster was just sharing a story and others had humor towards it rather than taking great offense. In all honesty rape is not funny, but neither is losing your cool and persecuting people for sharing something. If it was such an offense it was better ignored, he didn't do anything to break the rules.

I agree with you, and the fact that 'this is just the internet' should be irrelevant. If everyone would give grieve to the people who use offensive language like this it wouldn't be as common as it is now. Ignoring it is just lazy in my opinion.

Well, it is strange how the moderators work on BSN.

A thread created to share soloing advice was locked and yet these two threads that are about rape and rape jokes are still here.

Many of BSNers have different mother language than English (like me) and don't use it on regular basis. When you use it in eye-to-eye speech, your brain remembers reaction and expression of another person. You also may know the etymology of word, that it is combined with other words. You feel how it's pronounced. Most of "foreigners" learn it from movies instead of real life. It's not the same to foreign word equivalent (where know words with all senses - vision, smell, sound, etc). English word may even loose pejorative "meaning" (feeling), because you see - swearing for example - as something "cool" and "adult".

Another thing is manners vs cynicism/humor (especially black humor). Some people just have habit to tell jokes/perform pranks. In real life they are awarded by attention and appreciation from a group of people. They move it to multicultural community - forum - ... and are surprised that no-one is laughing.

You know, if you read the original post that the op is upset about, there wasn't any joke. The person was simply relating a distasteful occurrence that was perpetrated AGAINST HIM! He was the victim.

Of the following comments there was only one that I thought was a bit distasteful before the op of this thread left a rage comment which ,of course, caused the entire thread to explode.

I'll admit that the thread title perhaps should have been worded differently, but just like newspaper headlines, if you want some attention for your thread, sensationalism is the way to go!

Sorry OP, but kaecyus is right, at least to a degree. I support your view, but when you started tossing out expletives you broke forum rules to a degree the moderators can't ignore. The content is inexcusable regardless of whether its target deserved it or not. I strongly suspect that you're in the midst of your last few hours as a contributing member to BSN.
