And that problem is rape jokes. Seriously not funny and offensive as hell. And you let this stay on the boards. There are people who post here, not just women, who have been sexually abused. If you want to be this progressive company that you purport to be, you'll smack the ish out of this and keep it down. There aren't just cis white males posting here...and guess what, we don't think rape jokes are totes funny.
if you don't like something, don't continue to read it. just because you're offended it doesn't mean you're right. you're clearly mistaking the target of the joke for the subject. one wouldn't make a rape joke to a rapist or rape victim, it's said to others of like mind because we know it's abhorant.
i'm not going to explain further, just get a grip
Because there aren't any rape victims on the internet that might see somebody's nasty rape joke, right? Your defense is kind of appalling to me.
To the OP, report and move on. PM a moderator or two. This thread isn't going to go anywhere constructive.

I couldn't agree more.
It's a happy little joke for the straight, white guy who's lived a pampered, easy life and has never encountered any adversity whatsoever; It's easy for them to set sympathy aside. Yet this is something I feel you have to be sympathetic with. This isn't a fun topic, guys, and for someone who's encountered any kind of severe suffering, reminding them of it is just ruining their day.
Some of you might not mean any harm, and do this because you're young and/or you have an easy life, but just keep in mind the people you may be really hurting with it. They might be great people who you wouldn't want to hurt, so just watch what you have to say.

That said, I believe both parties are at fault. Those making the jokes are being inconsiderate [insert expletive of choice], while those taking offence are overreacting to something that isn't actually doing them any harm (with the exception of the word bringing back bad memories, in which case I recommend staying off the internet entirely). I don't like the debate at all, and it should just not be a topic unless someone is actually making a direct joke about committing the act to another human being.

Some people may be offended by the word 'Sausage', some people may be offended by the idea of someone playing VIDYA GAYMS.
Seriously, whilst it may not be always in 'taste', it's just another thing, if you have experienced such, my condolences, but if you're getting your panties in a bunch at the mere mention of a word, you have more problems than what may or may not have happened to you.

It's not meant as an offence because sadly it's all too often true. But please note the inclusion of pampered. I'm not saying that every straight, white guy is happy to hit the discrimination button; But what I am saying is that if someone hasn't encountered such suffering, it's easy for them to make jokes about it. It's the same thing with war veterans, people might make war jokes with them in the room and it can seriously screw with them. That's because those people haven't seen the horrors of war, they don't know what that's like.Xukog wrote...

I've encountered a lot of gay bashing in my long life. Yet it was rarely ever from ethnic minorities, the vast majority of it was from the straight, white type, often the religious and narrow-minded, with their first world problems. You have to understand that that majority has it really easy to compared to everyone else, for anyone who isn't in that bracket, they'll have encountered a whole bunch of **** in their lives, then there are others who'll have suffered more.
But some things can drive your empathy dial up to 10. I just find that sometimes the more pampered sorts can use a wake-up call to tell them that, hey, those 'jokes' are actually hurtful. You can't understand that because you've never been in a position of great adversity and suffering. But they still hurt, a lot.
I want to think highly of the Bioware community, but when this kind of thing is going on... that's hard.
And please let's not get into how discriminated against straight, white, average, pampered, unabused people are, and the fallacy of how hard they've had it.

To add to my above point, if I stated 'my team was massacred by Cerberus', would that be out of taste because of the recent school massacre or would it just be another word?
No. Why? Because it's a word.
Well said, OTS. I still don't like either side of this debate, though.

But seriously, there's a problem at BSN and it's rape jokes? One person made a rape joke in one thread, and this is now apparently a forumwide plague of such magnitude that is requires a thread of it's own? Come the **** on.

Ok,not even what I ment,Christ I find that stupid as well, all I meant was that you talk about not offending people after bringing race into a thread with no racial discussion.
*edit* Maybe I misunderstood cause I'm half-asleep, and if so,my bad.

Don't forget sexual orientation and gender/sex.
Because as we know, females and homosexuals are incapable of discriminating against anyone. Same with people who are not white.

Acting as if you were discriminated because of your race/gender/religion or even abused because of it and then bringing up race/gender etc. as a reason why somebody might find something funny is just the kind of logic you'll have to expect here.
I'd say deal with it but I'm still facepalming myself.

Au contraire, my friend. Every guy who has had a hard life that I know of is a big goofball. Because making jokes makes your life better, even if it's about terrible subjects.
Maybe you just didn't have a hard life?

God, it's the internet. There are dumbasses everywhere, accept it. Human stupidity knows no limits. As I always say, the evil can only be defeated and rooted out if you laugh at it.

Many of BSNers have different mother language than English (like me) and don't use it on regular basis. When you use it in eye-to-eye speech, your brain remembers reaction and expression of another person. You also may know the etymology of word, that it is combined with other words. You feel how it's pronounced. Most of "foreigners" learn it from movies instead of real life. It's not the same to foreign word equivalent (where know words with all senses - vision, smell, sound, etc). English word may even loose pejorative "meaning" (feeling), because you see - swearing for example - as something "cool" and "adult".
Another thing is manners vs cynicism/humor (especially black humor). Some people just have habit to tell jokes/perform pranks. In real life they are awarded by attention and appreciation from a group of people. They move it to multicultural community - forum - ... and are surprised that no-one is laughing.
That would be face-to-face.
