Seriously. I was just writing the story of a game I had and added a little sarcasm to it.

Then it was flooded with boxxy pictures and YOU, exactly, YOU, OP, insulted everyone with F*** you and other stuff. Seriously. YOU want to have someone banned because of some sarcasm? God, it's the internet. There are dumbasses everywhere. As I always say, the evil can only be defeated and rooted out if you laugh at it.

*Just read your thread*
Thats the story that pissed the person off? Oh come on...

Have some of my yes.

People who want to be offended, will be offended and if it's a simple word or one bad joke.

It's as simple as that.

Heron, I was going to maybe give you the benefit of the doubt and think that maybe you were having an off day, but I just checked your 'Threads Created' history and not a single one of them wasn't ****ing about SOMETHING.

Go outside. Really.

And that problem is rape jokes.  Seriously not funny and offensive as hell.  And you let this stay on the boards.  There are people who post here, not just women, who have been sexually abused.  If you want to be this progressive company that you purport to be, you'll smack the ish out of this and keep it down.  There aren't just cis white males posting here...and guess what, we don't think rape jokes are totes funny.

This place isn't hivemind.

Joking about hard subjects is fun, you should try it. Makes everything little bit easier.

The jokes will be made, and there's no getting around that. Sure, you can report them, but do you really think that will make a difference? I understand there are people that have gone through such events, but just because somebody uses it online doesn't mean they're trying to offend, and no offence should be taken.

I don't have a dog in this fight, so to speak, but absolutely reporting insensitive/offensive/immoral humor should make a difference. Gamers are notorious for being misogynistic, racist, and stupid, and it continues because of the "nothing will ever change" attitude.

I have been a gamer my entire life now, and it would be nice if it was normal for a community about a game/gaming could exist without any sort of sexist, homophobic, or racist jokes. If enough of us (and I really do believe it is the majority of us that feel this way) were to take a calm, reasoned stand against this sort of behavior, I think there is a definite possibility for change.

That said, OP is insane, and is a problem worse than our cause. Angry stupid people blathering about "issues" just end up looking like pundits yelling at each other on network news.

That only ever works if that "hard subject" isn't part of your personal history. It's just not up to you to decide if a rape victim has to find certain jokes funny or if they make it easier to deal with the situation.

That said, I don't get why people on here insist on their "right" to make jokes about something they might find funny, without considering that this might be seriously brutal to read for some people.

Note: I'm not saying that insulting is the right way to react, but stuff like "have you been raped?" is just disgusting, no matter how you'd like to turn it as a joke or want to see the internet as an excuse for that.

Well I won't be on any side, but, it's probably that the person who wrote this topic might be abused on any way, and probably that gave her bad memories about what happened to her. You know sometimes we have to understand what other people see or happen to them before judge what they say.

True, Internet is a place where you shouldn't get angry about what other people say, but sometimes we also should to understand some people's reaction against a word, expression or an event.

The thing is, don't be so hard with her, because we don't know exactly what kind of person she is ( maybe she's fragile and you can hurt her feelings with your comments ) and also we don't know if she suffered any kind of abuse.

Also, to the OP, girl, we are not guilty of what could happen to you or to someone you love, some of us understand that some expressions/words/events might be offensive if we talk about them in certain way like jokes or stuffs like that, but you know how the world is, sometimes it's better to joke about serious things when you don't have another exit to the situation because in some way we ( the society ) have to move on no matter what happened.

Examples of that are:
September 11th 2001, you have seen jokes about that a lot even if it was a terrible thing.
The Tsunami of 2004
Japan's Tsunami
and even about the recent school massacre.

By the way, what happened to someone here if that is the case is not fault of us, no one wants to hurt your feelings, seriously we don't even know each other here, but when you are in a forum with thousands of people, you will usually find different opinions about everything and eventually someone will say something that bothers you, believe me, happens everyday to all of us, but we learn to live with that because after all, it's internet.

Anyone agree with me?

If it has happened on the person's history, then the joke is inappropriate and wrong. Otherwise I consider it overreacting.

Agreed with your point about hivemind.

That said, if you knew someone very close to you who was raped, do you honestly think you would joke about it to them?  Keeping possibly offensive jokes (which I often make to my friends as well) to private channels is just common decency, man.  I don't drop f-bombs in wal-mart for the same reason, even though I curse prolifically at home/with friends. Just grow up and stop it with doing things that can reasonably be expected to hurt/offend someone in any sort of a public format.

(key words: reasonably, public. I don't think humor should die, and somewhere like standup comedy, or a youtube video with "offensive" humor isn't the issue. or conversation between friends where expectations are known. But this is a gaming forum for a game that people from all walks of life play. Just be nice.)

I quite enjoy dark humour/black comedy, particularly George Carlin. That said, not everyone does. But don't get your **** in a bunch about everything you see or hear in the world. If you let every idiot in the universe get to you, you'll go insane.

It doesn't matter, there are many more people than Heron reading this. Also, we'll never know if anybody involved in this is overreacting or personally affected and to be perfectly honest: it's none of our business.

I'm also not a big fan of promoting that "ah, everything goes on the internet" just because it's anonymous.

I agree with your stance on this rape topic OP. I hate this trend because there have been abuses in my family and can just see the other poeple reading or hearing these remarks cringing and dieing inside every time.

What?

You're going to have to expand on this statement because it doesn't make sense although it does seem like you are trying to be profound.

That said, it's odd how some people feel hurt when their "entitlement" to making rape jokes is questioned or threatened. The Bioware message board is a moderated, public space for discussion, with rules set in place. Don't see what's absurd about restricting jokes of that nature.

I tried reporting previous instances of this and have found nothing got done. Next step is I will contact the mods directly. If that doesn't work, then I will take further steps.

No worries, OP, I will go out of my way to make sure this issue is addressed.

*A big sigh*

For god's sake, yes. Rape is a terrible thing, but not a joke. Jokes about rape and using rape in jokes are two totally different things, I never meant to offend anyone. I just added it to that thread because it was part of the subject. Nothing more, nothing less.

....Oh dear, can't you stop being offended by anything? This is the internet. There is 2 girls 1 cup, goatse and other sick stuff no one wants to see. Human stupidity is infinite. We all have to accept that.

I don't think being a victim of, say, the holocaust is a requirement to know that its in bad taste to joke about it.

That being said, some jokes about touchy subjects can be acceptable, but it's everything about who the joke is poking fun at. If it's the perpetrators, then it's acceptable. If it's the victims, **** you.

In this particular case, it's just bad taste. He could have made an indirect "rape joke" by describing what happened to the Quarian and joke about it in the thread itself. But using it on the mother****ing thread title just screams LOOK AT HOW EDGY I AM OMG LOL RAPE POOP PENIS HITLER

And thinking "this does not affect me, so I am free to laugh and joke about it" is an incredibly self centered attitude that some people should seriously reconsider.

I'm not 100% sure if this is a troll thread or not, but I am reasonably sure it is.

You are bringing up gender and race like that has something to do with who makes these purported jokes.  How can you know who is posting - what their gender or race are?  What do these have to do with it anyhow?

I suggest you grow the hell up.

will you now post some pics of such things here on bsn or am I correct in thinking this is a moderated space and should be thought of as semi child friendly?
