People saying "this is the internet". No. If this was happening at a private site, fine. But this is happening at the official EA / Bioware forum. This is an issue, and it will be addressed.

That being said, some jokes about touchy subjects can be acceptable, but it's everything about who the joke is poking fun at. If it's the perpetrators, then it's acceptable. If it's the victims, **** you.

They can be acceptable with friends in private.
That, however, is the lie of the internet:
that it is private
and these people are your friends.

and they are not.

This is a game forum which is moderated and open for all to view. Its not the same as sitting around with your mates swapping jokes.

Making jokes about violent sexual assault offends me and i'll say it. Rape destroys lives and has led to the suicide of people i have known. Maybe think before you say things in public.

That rape can still be tossed around in and out of game as 'just abit of a laugh' indicates a problem if you ask me

Two points:

1. Freedom of speech is just that. Anyone can say whatever they want. If you're so opposed to what someone else says, take the high road and ignore it. Words only have power when you acknowledge them.

2. Mass Effect 3 is rated M. Since you have to own a registered copy of the game to use the forums, it's at least heavily presumed that you are an adult when you post here. Getting mad because someone says something on the internet is pretty immature. Hate speech is going to exist for the foreseeable future. Learn to be better and lead by example.

Freedom of speech doesn't mean I'm allowed to say whatever I want, to whomever I want and when I want without having to face any sort of repercussions or whatsoever. It certainly wasn't meant to protect people from being called out on bad jokes.

You know what really is the only thing immature about this mess? Making jokes about rape in the first and defending them in the second place, because it's the internet and stuff.
