The word rape has been trivialized so much and used as an expression of revenge so often that the real meaning is being pushed aside by childish people. It's a topic that needs respect and should not be used for humor.

actually yes it would be out of taste because we have words that reflect the severity of actions. Massacre in a video game?  That is a poor choice of words. But it is allowed because terms of violence permeate our society outside of where violence actually exists.  

Rape sticks out due to its sexual referencing which in turn brings about an even more personal level than say massacre.

great quote.  But I don't see how getting psuedo- harassed in a video(game) legitimately leads someone to think "I was raped"

Murder - Don't make jokes about taking lives or imply anything of it.
Religion - Never mention God or lack of a God.
Politics - Don't mention Obama or Romney or anything political.
Homosexuals - Don't ask don't tell.
Animal Abuse - Beating a dead horse is now a bannable phrase.
Special Needs - Don't insult anyones intelligence it's offensive to my mentally disabled cousin.
Race - Never mention any form of stereotype or refer to any race other than the politically (haha) correct term

Just to name a few...

You cannot have selecting policing especially on the internet. If you see something that offends you personally report it and move on. If it is deemed to be over the top let the moderators handle it. This act is as pathetic as those Facebook people blaming Mass Effect for the murders yesterday. No one is promoting rape here and no one is trying to make a joke of it. You are being overly sensitive.

As a matter of fact it is. But it so happens that I agree, I also think it is a sensitive subject best left out of civilized communication. Your reaction to someone talking about someone else making jokes about rape is completely hyperbole however. And the statement that rape jokes is a major problem on BSN is both false and slightly ludicrous.

I saw exactly one thread in which someone used the term 'rape,' and they weren't making a joke, just relaying an experience. The OP was a total dick about it in that thread, then chose to make another thread to specifically ****-talk others, and I guess to keep discussing rape for some ****ed up reason, because that's totally appropriate for BSN.

Despite what the OP says, not every victim of a sexual assault has a problem with the use of the word 'rape' to talk about things unrelated to sexual assault.

So now we must all walk on eggshells when posting to avoid hurting someone's feelings. I suppose they should change the name of the ravager because it may bring back terrible memories, also cannibals and husk. While we are at it lets avoid any word that may have a synonym to avoid misunderstandings.

I think everyone is just taking this way to personal, and these threads have gone on long enough. Seriously the original thread was a "Cool Story bro." and it wouldve disappeared if not for argument that took place over the use of a word, that the OP only said because he relayed the words of other players while having his experience. People are so up tight, its like something crawled up their... Oh wait better not upset the masses.

"Freedom of speech" is what forbids the GOVERNMENT from passing laws to limit your speech.  A private entity, such as this board, can make whatever rules it wants about which types of speech are tolerated.  They close threads and ban people for something as little as taking a discussion off-topic.  So why would you be so clueless as to think rape and Holocaust jokes would be tolerated?  Your ignorance is absolutely astonishing.
