Release next month for RTO? bye bye
Yeah if that is the case I will be playing another game at that point, and will just wait for the full expansion the awakening in March for DAO.

Bioware you're such a tease!
Bio: Amazing new DLC out this holiday season! Great action, great story, loot Duncan's beard - you name RTO's got it!
Fans: OMG!!!!
- some weeks after xmas -
Fans: bored now . . .
- jan 4th -
Bio: Um its delayed.
Fans: Wtf! Why?
Bio: *Ominous silence*
Fans: *Hundreds of forum pages of insane, incomprehensible rage*
Well thats the story so far - i reckon there's a movie in this . . .
It's not the delay that's tragic. Delays are a dime a dozen. It's the communication that needs work. Seems to be a breakdown in when something should be announced. I wonder how they came up with the date for the expansion since there is pre ordering involved. If they miss that date the anger will be 100 times this wouldn't it? I would be pissed if i had paid money up front for this.
Dunno who though it's a good idea to risk giving a hard deadline when they already missed "This Holiday Season" only to miss it. Everyone assumed by the time they announced 5th january it was confirmed already.

The first thing I wanted to do after Ostagar and then Lothering was to go back to Ostagar and loot Duncan's earring (and possibly his beard....+2 Cunning and Armor respectively). So that's why I'm still excited about this DLC (I also want a blood soaked Sandal surrounded by an army of Darkspawn saying, "Enchantment?" Seeing as how none of that is actually bound to happen, I'm curious as to what other people wanted from this DLC......aside from a release date (remember Mass Effect/Twitter/Pinnacle Station)
I want to see what really happen to Duncan.....oh and of course to steal the King's armor...and maybe a few other things...like that awesome chantry incense thing!
I wanna go visit the prisoner that gave me that key. He deserves someone to pay respects to him.
look at him, half buried in snow. Poor dead s.o.b.
Omg! I forgot about him...awww....that poor guy!
He didn't survive my sword to die from the cold and neglect. I guess my prisoner is the luckiest!

The issue was them wanting to provide us consumers with better content, can't say just anyone would do that.
You sure that's the issue? This happened so last minute they only told us last minute?
They woke up and thought. Oh sheet we cant sell this! Tell our fans we're missed our own deadline which we set!
The good thing about all this is that anyone who was hoping that DA:O's DLC would be an improvement over ME's DLC have now lost hope and with low expectations come easily satisfied fans.
Well done bioware!

I'll wait too. I'm used to Blizzard and Valve delays, so a few days are nothing. (i'm still waiting for Diablo 3 and the last chapter of Half-Life 2)
Frankly I don't remember but do they also tell you January 5th and then on January 5th tell you it's delayed?

Suddenly ... I feel like Valve has issued that Valve time chart to other companies ...You know, where 1 day equals 3 days and 1 week equals 1 month). I really want my Half life 2 Episode 3
.I'm a sad panda.
Valve time doesn't include a release date and a last minute "oops my bad" does it? cause I really am not such a big fan that I follow the news there. Unlike here.

ok,
then if we are lucky - see RTO end of this month
if not - see RTO after DA:O - Awakening?
oh well i give up
Damn, I knew there was no Feburary this year.
I guess my faith's a little shaken, too. Mass Effect was handled poorly after release, and still doesn't perform amazingly on my PC (it should do, but it doesn't). The two lots of DLC were playable, at least, although there should have been more. Also, how long did it take them to get that second patch out? By my estimate, probably a year.
BioWare have had the chance to use a clean slate, but they're screwing it up already. Warden's Keep and Stone Prisoner being DLC when in all truth at least WK should have been part of the game (the chest, remember?). Now we have RtO on it's second delay and after the release date fiasco they go an announce a date for Awakening. They've been developing this game for how long now? If WK was ready for the day of release, why wasn't it a standard part of the game?
Delaying until the end of January (at least) is a shot in the foot. Mass Effect 2 releases in that last week, BioShock 2 is just a week or two after, Star Trek Online comes out very soon too.

Yep all I really cared about with RTO was the story and closure with Ostagar. I already have the kings armor and shield and Duncans armor for that matter by using the toolset for PC versions of the game. So the items are a loss on me anyway.

Am I the only one amused that they told fans on the one hand RTO is delayed and on the other hand feel free to pre order our expansion which is so definitely going to come out in march.
I'm not against delays cause sheet happens. But the communication and marketing is botherline insane i would think. Maybe internally someone is forcing them to have some kind of schedule which they are not keen to keep up with. Some kind of silent protest from the programmers maybe?
I am imagining this.
Programming head (or whatever u call him) : It will be out holiday season. *wink wink*
Marketing guys : Okay lets do an announcement that we will be announcing the release of ostagar on our blog. Then we will surprise fans by actually announcing the DLC RTO for this holiday season.
Just before christmas :
Marketing guys : You have a hard date yet? We're realeasing it this holiday season right?
Programming Head : Eh. So far only the trailer is ready. But the coding is almost done. I am sure there will be little or no bugs. So we're thinking maybe first week of january. PS3 probably later than that cause we know our chances of making the certification process.
<Marketing + programmer guffaws and pats each other in the back , enjoying the commaradrie shared from enjoying a inside joke>
After Christmas :
Marketing guys : So where it is the code?
Programming head : Enchantment!
Marketing Guys : January 5th it is!
January 5th :
Marketing guys : Hey i noticed there is no return to ostagar.
Programming head : Enchantment!
Marketing guys : Oh sheet. Tell them it's delayed. Start a thread, it will result in flaming then we can lock it. Fan boys will call other fan boys immature etc etc.
Programming head : hey wait we are working on the expansion as well. We are thinking Awakening is a cool name.
Marketing Guys : TELL THEM IT WILL BE OUT IN MARCH!
Programming head : ... ... I wish I had money to hire more than just enough people to make and test the trailers. Sigh.
Marketing Guys from duke nukem forever : Hey duke nukem is not dead!

They didn't specifiy a date on RtO until it was pretty much done or done for certain. Up until very recently, it just said "Available this holiday season" on the content page. Which is what it says now.
Did you mean to suggest that they won't ever announce a release date, given "all the flak" received for their own mistakes in delivery and communication?

O.o...... ok ima guess that you havent looked at the site after christmas lol. b/c THEY SAID it would be out on JAN 5 ..........hence everyones bi****** on the other forums lol. also yes chris said they were NOT gonna give another ETA on RtO until they know 100% that its done and ready. so sadly we have to wait ......... my guess is someone forgot to turn something in by due date and they dont want to give a name in fear of us killing that person lol

Everyone with a slight understanding of how to lead a company will agree that Bioware is kind of obligated to communicate the community what's the matter. They probably don't want to harm themselves. CRM is very important, especially for current games. Therefore be patient and we'll know quite soon what's going on.
They are aware of the issue that the treatment of the community determines their corporate success, which is quite deeply connected to their income.
I doubt anyone would want to miss $/€/etc.., right? Their goal ain't damaging their image, I suppose.. Flaming them does not help.
Ergo: Just chill and let them do their work. Since you pay hard coin, there's nothing more annoying than buggy games..

I can't see how end of January would be smart on their part though since it puts it right around Mass Effect 2's release. Even if they are constrained by certification processes and possibly needed to release it on a Tuesday/Thursday for consoles.
I'll forget about all of this frustration if they let you get Cailan's armor...in ME2
