Does telling Eadric in the Mage origin story as an elf where you're from do anything?

Playing as an Elven Mage I noticed when you talk to Eadric he can ask you where you're from and two of the options are from the Denerim Alienage and Lothering. I was wondering if anyone knows if this actually does anything?

It hasn't for me with my elven mage.

In fact, Lothering seemed to be a lie. I chose that answer, but no-one at Lothering knew or recognised me. And all of my companions and every person who has mentioned my background have said that I was from the Denerim alienage despite my choice. Leliana asked me, for instance, what it was like to live in the alienage.

However, she hasn't gotten as far as the alienage yet. So it's remotely possible there's something there. But I suspect not.

most mages are taken to the Tower during childhood when their magical ability first manifests, so it's unlikely you'd be recognised as an adult even if you did run into somebody who knew you or your family before

True - but that doesn't explain why Leliana and others ask me what it was like to grow up in the alienage. And there is no option there to say: oh no, I grew up in Lothering.

disappointing as it would've nice epic just to have some sort of recognition when "back" in lothering or denerim. is it ever explained wtf your family is? most other origins just have your parents killed off.

Clearly a dated post, but I've been wondering the same as I run through the various origin areas with an elven mage and see all the intricate origin story weaving done for other character races/ backgrounds. Maybe there isn't anything decisive for an elf mage, but does anyone know if there is a "right" answer for the question from Eadric?

I haven't made it to the alienage yet either to confirm or deny any lost parentage there (though Lothering was a while ago), but I'm wondering whether it was something the developers intended to develop and didn't or just something the developers never wanted anything to do with, just allowing this one single early-on conversation option with Eadric to state it ineffectually. Like SusanStoHelit I've heard Leliana's "How was it in the alienage?" dialogue also- seeing no options for "But I'm from a farm outside Lothering [as Eadric was from a farm]" or "But my Dalish parents brought me to the Circle Tower."

Not certain yet, but I'm thinking it was something that simply was never really thought out rather than a charming mystery that will be unfolding for my elf mage character later. Of course they develop the main mage story with Jowan thoroughly, but the elven heritage aspect is just one of numerous elf story matters in the game that get presented with mediocre interest... much like humans tend to regard elves in the game itself :-P

Nope, I'm afraid no-one greets you with any familiarity in Denerim alienage. You get the standard non-City Elf warden dialogue. It seems the life of a mage warden pre-Circle is not given any attention besides the two places already mentioned. Though interestingly a human mage will be a cousin of the protagonist in DA2. It is mentioned only in passing, however, and not elaborated on.
