To be honest though, I don't have much of a problem with Shepard getting annoyed at Joker for saying that, and I don't really get why people are cool with the whole Thessia thing:

"So what if billions of people are being killed in agony on the planet below, at least those spineless bureaucrats got what they deserved!"

I'm referring to his Post-Thessia 'joke' about how the Asari "are wishing they had fewer dancers and more commandos right about now".

I've seen a lot of people who’ve wished that we had the option to laugh at the ‘joke’ or that Shepard could've just calmly told him off, but I’ve never seen or read anyone one that said ‘yeah he totally deserved being shouted at’.

So who here thought that he deserved what he got?

Edit: Fixed formatting, Well that was strange.

Shepard seemed to be more upset about the Reapers invading Thessia than he did about Earth. Le stupid.

No I don't think he should have been yelled at, there's more than one way to cope beyond crying or yelling.

But it's the ONLY option. Angry or angry. No choice, no difference. At least ME1 had different flavors of the same thing. You could be nice, mean, or neutral about it.

The claim that you have no choices in this scene is simply wrong. Yes...you don't have the option to laugh at his tasteless joke.

but if I were living in that world, Shepard's reaction is the only appropriate one. Anything else is just sick really.

My Shepard didn't appreciate the racial slur against her bondmate's race and I choose the renegade answers. Joker was distant/professional for the rest of the game (it also changes the dialogue before Cronos and Earth).

If you choose the paragon answers Shepard says she appreciates the thought and you're still close for the rest of the game.

To me it seemed like Joker was trying to help Shepard through his/her "lowest point" but given the sheer volume of what happened on Thessia on everyone's minds, including his, it really really backfired. no malice intended, just a guy trying to help his Commander and friend but saying the wrong stupid thing.

It's happened to all of us at some point with someone at some time. Ok, minus the Reapers, and all the death and space.

My Shepard would have kicked back a beer while watching Thessia burn, but he's that kind of an ass

True and they didin't seem to react to the fall of Palaven at all although as a spacer my Shepard has no particular attachment to Earth they have even less attachment to Thessia.

Yes, it is racism. It's a negative racial stereotype. The Asari are the most populous species in the galaxy. The claim that every asari maiden is a stripper (or a merc) is just dumb. There isn't a sufficient demand for billions of strippers. So he made a racial slur against my Shepards bondmate's race and gets offended when Shep gets mad at him.

My Shep didn't speak to Liara at all in ME1....he didn't pick her up until after Virmire...and doesn't let her come to his Cabin in LotSB....never turns to Liara for support in ME3, rarely speaks with her in fact.....He is Earthborn, his best friend and the one he turns to for support is from Palavan. He has seen both Earth and Palavan fall....Why the hell would he yell at joker over Thessia?....A neutral 'Not now Joker' would have been much more appropriate.

I can only imagine the outcry to the forced venting had they kept the original Thessia mission intact, which was Virmire 2.0 where you chose between Liara and the other squadmate.

Missed opportunity.

"We need to axe the Virmire 2.0 choice on Thessia."
"Why?"
"Someone might actually decide to kill Liara."
"Naturally. Can't have that."

some of the things that they cut... it makes me wonder if they cut out all the bad ideas and then accedentaly made the game out of them instead of the ones they ment to keep.

He deserved to be yelled at but Shep actually doesn't yell at him very well. It should've been more like, " Why don't you go tell that joke to all their relatives you piece of **** billions just died today and you're cracking jokes! " I also didn't get why Joker thought then was a great time to bring up how Anderson told him to keep shep's spirits up that was also a lamely timed comment on Joker's part.

Not racism its a cultral truth weather they have more strippers then commandos is depatable but they do have both stripers and commandos. And not enough commandos were on the home world if they indeed have the numbers to make a proper defense in the first place. We already know they were lacking in Justicars.

It's just joker trying to diffuse the situation with a joke like he always does. I liked that scene although I thought we should have a bigger range of reactions to it.

No, it's because the VS treatment was complete crap and put them in the same situation again.

In this case, it can't even be wrong, considering the asari aren't real.

Joker deserved it. Not only for the insensitive joke but for his insensitive comment about Shepard "putting her squad through a meat grinder" at Toran. My renegade Shepard told him he wasn't her therapist and after that he became a crybaby who kept saying "commander" begrudgingly. I never apologized and he continued to be mad at me as I landed in London and saved the galaxy.

No I don't think Joker deserved to be shouted at personally. Think Shephard should have had option to be fine with the joke and forced anger was annoying.

What I think sucks is that the writers themselves find the whole situation funny enough to put these jokes in. And funny enough to have EDI try to lighten it up afterwards.

But they want the players to be the serious ones.

I wanted to laugh no matter how silly the joke. It would be cool to have the option if femshep could tell a joke or not. Now every time I do that worthless mission, I just ignore everyone and go to another mission/side mission.

The only thing I was annoyed about was being forced to shout at Joker.
