We're losing control of Shepard! They're even losing control of themselves! Even yelling at Joker! What's going on!

I don't know if that's the case.

I think they just have a fairly narrow personality for Shepard now. What irks me is that they (the writers) get to laugh and have fun and have the freedom to say anything they want, but they put the player at the "kiddie table". It's their way of saying we're not cool enough to enjoy the story the way they do. We have to be the guy with a stick up his ass and relishes in melodrama scene after scene.

That's mostly what I get from it.

I really really think it can be both.

And I hope they lose that attitude with the next game. I honestly can 'deal' with ME3. You know why. But I don't want that to be their trend - not by a long shot.

Joker's joke was kind of inappropriate.
But why not, atleast it added something. If everything is correct, bouring and what would be expexted it would also dull the experience.

Watching a movie or game about mr perfect can get boring. Slipups and unexpected somewhat inappropriate comments can make things more interesting.
It's one of those things you don't see comming, least not in the exact delivery in which it was made and reacted to.
If you look at Halo I cant think of a single moment where I was actualy surprised.
Everything in there is the logical followup of previous events and just about everything that happens is foreshadowed, in character and the logical next step.
There is both good and bad in that.
But personaly I liked that moment, not because it was perfect but because it was human. We all know humans are flawed, and aliens too.
It's not a favrite but it's good filler materia, and it's much better than the turn of events in the temple on thessia even if I enjoyed the Asari history lession.

Joker should have left that joke alone and walked away.

Is that a joke too? Because he doesn't walk very well.

It's funny that you caught that.

It was a really funny joke. I mean, as a player, why should I feel sadder about Thessia than I do about the rest of the fictional galaxy getting their teeth kicked in? The whole game is full planets getting beat up on, am I supposed to mope around the whole game?

I know Shepard got beat by Kai Leng, but as a player, how am I supposed to be emotionally invested in that when the defeat is out of my hands? All you can do is laugh at the situation.

Joker had many reasons to get yelled at since the start of ME2, we just had a reason to at last tear into him.

Is it like a allied solider making a inappropriate joke after finding a concentration camp? Like, for example, "I guess someone must have rolled a penny into that furnace, right commander?" I dont know, personally I just felt indifferent.

I don't mind that Joker got yelled at...for players who wanted to yell at him. I just hated how the options were

I chalk it up to Shepard being pissed that he lost. First time that happened in an indeterminate amount of time and the loss wasn't minor.

But yes a neutral "not now" would've been preferable and the asari favoritism doesn't sit well with me despite having nothing against them.

That's the weird thing. It isn't Asari favoritism. The writers are making Asari jokes through Joker (and making light of it through EDI). It's all a joke to them.

They just want Shepard/the player to feel serious. Not themselves. I don't get it.

Joker jokes about everything (hence his name). And everytime you can laugh, or shake your head, or tell him to knock it off. Except this time.

Add to that the fact that you're able to take Earth getting owned without blinking (occasional lip-service aside), in spite of all the artificial weight the plot puts on it, yet completely lose your **** when Thessia gets its knees scuffed.

It's the same with the damn kid and the dreams. You're a rock, except when when the writers want you to be traumatized and those times are the most insulting to everything else.

besides the asari people dying and the noble sacrifice of the asari squad to let shepard into the temple. shepard losing to kai leng. hmm..

but then again.. the hate for liara is to strong for stealing soo much air time that all asari even the women and children deserve to die the most horrible death possible.

Even the Asari women, huh?

But yeah, Shepards reaction to Thessia felt appropriate for me. As for Joker, I guess this is his way of coping with these things, he's even making jokes when talking with Liara about his fathers and sisters possible death. Not that I didn't want to yell at him many times, but more for being annoying as hell.

The only time I wanted to hurt Joker was the handwave "I saw you spaced" in me2

After Thessia I was in total agreement with him. I would have probably smiled.
