Now Im trully confused, explain this to me.

If i posed as a Female wouldnt you treat me like a Female?

If I posed as a Male wouldn't you treat me like a Male?

Or are you saying you want Men to treat you like a Man, or that you dont want to be treated like a Female by Men?

The
whole pricncipal is confusing to me because there isn't anywhere I can
go and say "Treat me like one of the Girl's" or perhaps there is and Im
unware, I shall do some research and infiltrate your evil minds

The issue is more that they feel they are treated worse when treated as a female. I think the most telling thing is that, while online, many women would rather have the online strangers think they are a man rather than a woman, in large part because a woman can take a litany of abuse simply because they are a woman.

I have women friends that have played WoW, and they stopped using their mics if they were playing with strangers, because the fact that they were a woman meant that they were now being treated differently, often in an unpleasant way.

As a male, I have never felt like I was more of a victim because people knew I was a male.  Ever.

I think the problem is that it's the internet and people feel like the have more freedom to say and do what they want just because they aren't face to face with someone

That is certainly an issue for me.  The icident I mentioned before?  Before I slipped up and let the rest of the team hear my voice, several of them actually gave me variations of the 'ataboy.  Apparantly my lack of a phallus invalidated all that.

It's kind of sad this happens. In the words of Mr. Tourge  "THERE'S NOTHING MORE BADASS THAN TREATING A LADY WITH RESPECT"  Oh Borderlands 2 how I love thee

This is why I am so positive about the current push in North American culture to reverse gender-normative stereotypes.  It's nice to imagine that one day my grandkids (or dare I hope, my son) will not be judged because any future actions he may take or ideals he may espouse just because said actions and ideals could be "typically female"

"Ten years, a hundred years from now, someone like me will love someone like you and there will be no templars to tear them apart."

Felt oddly relevant. Please excuse the gush.

Im sure most male's are aware female's play game's, If it make's you feel any better alot of us Harass, Joke, and Belittle eachother on MMO's as well, I guess you expect a heightened level of sensitivity because your Female, but then expect to be treated like "one of the guy's" or with the same respect that men treat eachother with, which i can assure you, especially in multiplayer's, is very little to none.

Please, I'm sure adult women are perfectly capable of noticing if the atmosphere changes once their gender gets known.

This also ties in to the question I have when it comes to your post. Could it be that you perceive it that way because it's so rare to see something so equal? I mean, The Maker is still male, pretty much all of the nobility that we see are male, the qunari are perfectly 50/50 (society stands on three legs, one male, one female and one either), the vicecount in Kirkwall is male, Anora is NOT regarded to be able to rule without a man at all, and I dare you to find companions more integral to the plot than Alistair/Anders. Or did I misunderstand, are you merely making the point that others may see the representation in-game as predominantly female even though it's actually pretty equal?

Let's not forget the point that was made earlier about dragons. High dragons being female came up, but hey, old gods are male. Ancient all powerful dragons(old) > huge dragons(high) > normal dragons(drake), no?

You're a person we see online on a message board. Why would we care what gender you are? That's kind of the problem, that a lot of people feel the need to hide what gender they are because others do care - and suddenly change how they act.

Here is a website of women gamers posting the type of things many women have to endure simply because it becomes known that they are a female in an online game.

Here's an inbox of one after an evening of gaming:

And that is why I never play multiplayer with people I don't already know.

For the life of me I cant understand why Female's here think Male=Normal Gaming Experience in Multiplayer, and what other variation's of social life has that thought leaked into and how harmful is it, because if Male = Normal, that inherently means Female=Abnormal.....I cant understand why posing as Male means a better experience.

Because alot of men insult women for playing videogames so to play without being harassed they have to pose as a man, I think it's ironic men act this way to women then complain about there not being alot of women who play videogames

It's not that Male = Normal. It's that Male = less abusive.

Hah!  Weird.  I just get a 1600x1200 super high res photo of that logo from the first link.

Alternatively, google searching "Original Dragon Age logo" will bring it up if others are still curious and having issues.

Hmm... You don't understand why posing as a male means a better experience. When you do not disclose the fact that you are a female gamer you do not run the risk of being mistreated for being a female gamer.

If you play in a group and everyone are ok with each other. Then one of the gamers is revealed to be female and the rest of the group continues to harras that person for being female. Is it the female gamer being mistreated who then thinks that Male=Normal Gaming Experience or is the male gamers who chooses to mistreat her who believes that Male=Normal Gaming Experience?

Well, Female's do have that "Respect me as a Woman" thing, and the "There is certain thing's you shouldn't say to me as a Woman thing"  and also the "You can find me attractive, and it's okay to let me know it, but make sure you do it right when you let me know" thing....so...Id assume the atmosphere would change in how gender's interact with one another. but eh....this is getting confusing. I think the matter of respect and saying/not saying certain things is something that goes beyond gender. Perhaps in your experience, you have witnessed or have heard those words primarily from women, but that may be due to the fact that some women have felt/been disrespected, or harassed, or judged negatively due to their gender alone.

What people tend to forget is that while we may exercise the right to have and hold an opinion on something, that shouldn't be the open door and red carpet to say things that are rude or disparaging. Words have weight, and words can wound. I would no more say something rude and inappropriate to a man than I would to a woman, not because of gender, but because it would be rude and inappropriate...on a human level.

Cmon' really....I dont know, Maybe it's just my own personal experience but I think Men talk WAYYY more crap to eachother then we do to women, I think women are just more sensitive to it.

I think we are for the most part joking to eachother but in a lot of cases these guys are just insulting the women because they can.
