He was not. Don't forget the fanboys. That broody elf deserved some hot gay lovin'.
One for the fangirls?

Not trying to be sexist just curious but for some reason the whole Dragon Age series seems like it is written to appeal more to the female audience, anyone else get this impression? Not having a go at anyone I just find it 'unique', to be fair it would seem most games these days are writen to appeal more to males, I mean we got the far superior Witcher series so I guess it is about time women got a series of games made to appeal more to them, all the more power to ya girlfriend.
Considering the fanbase perhaps it is time to put a female lead on the cover? I mean th
e canon Warden and Hawke were both depicted as male so perhaps it is time for a female to take the lead?

Also having played both DA and TW I wish people would stop comparing them. They have some surface similarities but they are completely different games.

Im all for equality, however, Im not sure how claiming that Males are usually the ones on box covers and poking holes at their apperance's on those covers really benefit's the arguement.
Also, I'd note that if Males put pictures of a female character's butt on the forums and proceeded to oogle over it, people would be calling them pigs and horn dogs.
I also find It funny that there Isnt some huge male outcry everytime some male Singer/Actor/Reality Star takes of his shirt and rubs his body, but It seems to be the exact opposite for females. In fact, the only area's of western media that females havent dominated yet are Video Games & Sport's and that will change to. If it's one thing I've learned in my years, women always get their way.

Bioware adds a female character to the cover, like what we see on the ME3 cover.
The cover is criticized for being too s1utty, as someone else in this thread accused.
The next cover comes out, featuring a homely female pro-tag, which is criticized for making solider/warrior women as being stereotypically not good looking.
The next game cover comes out, showing a woman who is not a super model, but is classically good looking and is not looking like a fighter at all. This is criticized because now Bioware is afraid to show a woman fighter at all, that they are catering to social norms and are telling women to get back to a Mary Sue homemaker lifestyle.
The next game cover has a male, to avoid the madness.
Not saying it WOULD happen... but if anyone thinks it COULDN'T then they are as crazy as I am.

Oh yes. We always get our way. Well, maybe there's some credence to that in a few Western cultures. However, with nothing more than a desire to inform intended, I'd invite you to step out of what is truly a minority in the area of world cultures and views and into the wide and frightening planet filled with cultures where it is not only acceptable, but expected for women to be treated as second class citizens.
I understand what you're trying to get at. The United States and Canada seem to have undertaken a massive effort to equalize gender stereotypes, and while this is (in my opinion, of course) a positive thing, it often makes men feel as though they're being persecuted for loving naked breasts, football, and guns. That feeling sucks, and I get that. Hopefully it will change and evolve along with our changing and evolving sense of what it means to male or female. Please though, Please try to understand why quotes like this: "If it's one thing I've learned in my years, women always get their way." are offensive and generally just make you sound old, bitter, and like one of those ridiculous old men who still believe that women's small brains might overheat if we're told something too complicated or that we might (gasp) throw a hissy fit if we don't get our way.

Those kinds of accusations will always be thrown around, and as we've seen, it's not like having a male on the cover avoids the madness either.
I've always thought they should just have someone covered up so that their gender/class/etc are ambiguous (KOTOR Revan), considering the protagonist is always customizable (we choose more than just their gender) and in a way it could advertise that ("Who is the Inquisitor?" - the player decides). I recall some Bioware people posting before though that an iconic white male character on the box/media sells better or something.

I very rarely play video games and think "man, I'm glad these games are slanted towards my male tendencies!" Unless they are blatantly throwing around sexuality Duke Nukem style, I feel a lot of them are gender neutral, but apparently the entire industry is biased towards male gamers and I've just been blind. So maybe what is actually gender neutral seems to be appealing towards women to me. Or maybe appealing towards women just appears as gender neutral to women gamers? I don't know... I can't handle thinking about gender that much when I'm just thinking about playing a video game.

Truth is, I feel sorry for guys. It's like they get pushed into this weird corner where they're not supposed to appreciate emotional stuff. Or, romance. Human things. Somehow this idea that guys are supposed to be uber tough and aggressive and unemotional to be a true man has permeated...and it's...sad.
It's unfair to guys is what it is. Stifling. That;s alot to carry. Hold inside. Guys that accept this idea the most are the ones that push their women down the hardest because their woman becomes a symbol of everything they're trying to push down within themselves.
ah.....i should go.

We're allowed to cry on rare occassions. Like if a loved one dies or if we have to chop off a limb or we've just watched Toy Story 3 for the first time.

I'm uncertain what we do for female fans that we don't also regularly do for male fans. I suppose if the Witcher series is the benchmark you're using, the difference might make it seem unbalanced, but that's a rather dubious measuring stick if you ask me.
It's nice that you throw the female fans a bone, however, "far inferior" as it might be. I'm sure they all appreciate the magnanimous effort that must take on your part.
Isn't the writing team for DA primarily female? Maybe the OP can sense that somehow in the style of writing.
Personally I didn't notice nor does it really matter.
Also I've never played the Witcher, and I'm sure its a good game, but I like DA for reasons that don't apply to it. One of the biggest being the way you can personalize the player character. Geralt of Rivia is a nice character, but he's not 'me' like The Warden and Hawke can be.

I'm a guy, but people often seem to mistake me for female on forums, which I'm fine with. I actually prefer having a certain level ambiguity surrounding me. It means people have to read and consider what I write based on my writing's own merits instead of making a bunch of asumption based on my race, gender, orientation etc.
The gender inequality in gaming isn't just about the overt sexulisation of female characters, though that's also a large part of it, but is also about a lot of other things. How few games feature a female protagonist, how many game feature women as simply being love interests to the men etc. The whole culture of gaming is also very male biased, from gamers to the game developers themselves. Women are often subjected to sexually explicit comments when they play games online. Female developers have a very hard time in the industry (I suggest looking up the '1 reason why' campaign that was going on on Twitter for more insight into this). Producers actually tell developers not to have a female protagonist because the game won't sell as well.
I'm getting off track from what we were originally talking about though. I guess the idea that after all the male aimed games out there one that's more gender neutral would be appealing to women makes sense and was admittedly something I had not considered. My original comment though was more about how I don't think the games themselves have been created to appeal more to women than to men, which I tend to see a lot of people assume and I can't help but wonder if it has something to do with DA having a lot of female writers so people automatically think it's being writen for women.

Agreed! My son was 3 or 4 when it came out and we made the trip to the Big Island just to see it in theater. I cried at least three times, and I saw my husband glance at the kiddo and tear up at least once. Later he claimed, a la Hank Hill, that he just poked himself in the eye with his straw. "It was Sprite running my cheek, I swear! I have no un-manly emotions!"
